This is more adventures of Bolt Crank, a mercenary with the strange power to eat anything metal and bring it back into the world from his hand. Circuits are included, since this power works on weapons as well as robots, aircraft, ammo and other equipment. He also likes to drink motor oil.

Eat man 98 was better than the first season some years before and you don't need to watch the first season to follow this one. There is almost no reference to the first season.

Bolt Crank said twice as many lines here than in the first season, but still dose not have much to say. The stories were not about him. He was just there as muscle & cool looking window dressing, nothing more. The other characters were the real main protagonists and the stories were about them, not Bolt. All of the stories were good except for the last one, farcical dreamer parts 1 & 2 (episodes 11 & 12). The only thing it had going for it was the return of a fellow mercenary from the first season, named Hard.

In the animation what bothered me was that they cut a lot of corners by freezing the action while sound played, ugh. I did like the way the characters were individualized. No need for crazy hair to tell them apart. They also did a good job of showing the expressions & emotions of the characters, well all but Bolt. The rest of the animation was OK by the standards of being a 21 year old anime.

All in all it’s not a great anime but it is quite watch-able if you keep in mind it's age.

7/10 story
6/10 animation
4/10 sound
8/10 characters
7/10 overall
