If you're looking for anime similar to Durarara!!, you might like these titles.
It's the 1930s, and Mafia groups fight for supremacy in American cities. Young Firo joins the secretive Camorra group; a meek street boy, Jacuzzi, finds himself the leader of a gang of thugs; an alchemist is producing a liquor of immortality, and a homunculus tries to retrieve it; and upbeat thieves Isaac and Miria head to New York after failing to strike gold in California. They ride the novel train, the Flying Pussyfoot, across the continent. However they find themselves embroiled in a ruckus caused by gangs, terrorists, serial killers, and others as multiple stories intertwine and unfold on this fateful ride. All are haunted and hunted by the legendary Rail Tracer...
Durarara!! is like a modern day Baccano!
I have only seen the first three episodes of the former, and this is what I thought.
First off, both animes are told from the POVs of several characters. This causes the story to start off sporadically. However, if Durarara is anything like Baccano the story will intertwine and everything will be clear.
After viewing the very first episode to Durarara, I was left trying to figure the other series I've seen that introduces characters through the opening sequence. This could be merely a studio property; I havn't seen enough of Brains-Base to pass judgement.
Although I cannot look further into the plot Durarara(No, I won't read the novel), I can say without a doubt that fans of Baccano will compare the western drama to this urban tale and vice versa.
Because both features a large array of characters, rapidly changing points of view, a simellar visual style, and identical ways of doing the op
Both anime are a cluster of many characters where their stories eventually somehow become linked together. Same style, same awesomeness. Baccano takes place in america where durarara takes place in japan. Same dark gritty type of story telling. If you liked one I can not express how much you'll like the other. Perfect match.
It's strange... but watching this anime i had something like a "DejaVu" (xD) Like i have seen this before, both animes have something similar, i don't know what's it,but watching "Durarara!!" the first thing i remembered was "Baccano".
Dura gives similar feeling to Bacca. Not because simply because studio is the same, but because of similar atmoshpere, like you feel that something grand is going on somewhere and all puzzles are creating that greater image episode by episode. I think creators even based some vital points of Dura on Bacca, and with that thought even gave cameo apperance for some of Baccano characters in Durarara ;)
Same creator, same animation studio, same feeling, same idea of a wide cast of varied yet interconnected characters.
A lot of mystery, action, a lot of characters.. Also great music and same style of OP and ED themes, really similar animation. Well, even their titles are similar. Baccano! and Durarara!! have many things in common, and it's hard to explain them all, so i better recommend you to watch both series to understand. If you liked one you can't miss another! :)
This is a recommendation with a "but". Baccano! and Durarara!! are two anime following the same formula: you have a wide range of extravagant characters, stories that jump back and forth with different leads in different episodes, and huge amounts of awesomeness at every corner.
So far so good, but the main difference between the two is in the setting. Part of Baccano's appeal comes from its '30's setting and over-the-top violence. Durarara!! on the other hand is situated in modern day Ikebukuro, with gangs and crime as main theme. They both have genuinely awesome supernatural elements aplenty, and if you don't mind the difference in setting and level of violence, you're bound to absolutely love both.
Each of these series have a very similar style of story telling, animation, and music, while involving an unexpected amount of the supernatural (moreso with durarara, though). Each cast is rather large, but does a great job developing almost every character, while maintaining a fast paced story with a lot of truly epic moments. If you loved one of these, you'll love the other.
This is a very obvious recommendation imo. They're made by the same people, looks similar and both have an equally fun, high-tempo pace where they mix action and comedy with their huge colorful and creative casts.
I just noticed it after few episodes of Durarara!!. Both animes Baccano and Durarara are about many character stories that link connection each other in one . Both series got similar climate, both are comic.
It is most likely to enjoy Durarara if you enjoyed Baccano. Both series are about lots of people interacting with each other in entertaining way. Both series have same kind of humor and were made by same studio. Also manga of both series is written by same artist.
Baccano! and Durarara!! are both produced by the same team, delivered in the same fashion, and animated in the same style. Both series feature a unique and very creative cast of characters and frequently shifts focus from different character's point's of view to move the story forward.
If you liked either of these shows you owe it to yourself to at least try out the other.
Well Durarara is told in multiple views much like Baccano!, even the style of how the story is told, whether it's from the rumors right down to the urban legends. Baccano! also gives fans the random chaos scenes we all love from Durarara!!
I strongly recommand you watching Durarara!! if you have watched Baccano!, or the other way around, because both animes use a similar way of story telling and charackter design. In adition to the statet things above, both animes are made out of action, drama and a good part of humor.
It took me 2 episodes of Durarara for me to figure out what show gave me this same familiar feeling- Baccano! They both feature large casts and not-so-clear plots that gradually pulls you in and doesn't let go until the final plot twist as been revealed. If you liked these elements in one of these shows, take a chance on the other.
Both series have excellent writing and story progression, though i have to say DRRRA's second half wasn't as strong. If your looking for a similiar show to Baccano then Durarara!! is certainly an excellent choice to go with. They're also both by Brains base so maybe that's why they're so good.
Durarara!! and Baccano! are similar not only because they're animated by the same studio or written by the same author, but because they weave together a multitude of almost completely unrelated plotlines and turn out very different than you would think from watching just the first episode.
Durarara and Baccano share the same way of storytelling, at first showing you scraps from every thread, which feels a bit chaotic, and then shows you more and more and more, and suddenly every piece combine into well-thought image. If you enjoyed story of either of them, I'm certain you'll enjoy the other - durarara is basically a modern baccano.
Also both have amazing cast of various(often crazy) characters, and both are worth watching for characters alone.
I personally watched Durarara!! first, then watched Baccano! but within 2 episodes I was hooked due to the mention of a certain company from Durarara. It's only a small mention at best, but you can immediately tell that the stories are in the same universe.
they are from the same creator and have both have a bit of gore but not to much they are both really one of a kind
Baccano and Durarara!! are from same light novel author, animation studio, music composer and both of them have supernatural and comedy. If you like one of them you would sure like other.
Similar character styles, and both anime use varying view points to tell the story. There is a mixture of reality and fable in each anime. The two also have the same character designer and director. In fact, several characters and scenes from Baccano make cameo appearances in Durarara. The mix of humor, violence, and drama is a common factor in both anime.
Durarara!! is very similar to Baccano! in that it follows the lives of several people and mixes them all into a story with no main protagonist. The art is very similar, but I admit the character designs for Baccano! are much more visually detailed, whilst Durarara!!, being a newer anime, has much smoother and clearer animation. Both of these series are written by Ryohgo Narita.
Both series follow the intricacie of events that occur when the lives of various characters intertwine. Since both are light novels based on the same author and are produced by the same animation/production company, they have a similar feel in story-telling, art, and music. They plots are dark, slightly twisted, contain a hint of the supernatural, and have an incredibly complex and well-thought out story-line with a highly entertaining and diverse cast. While Baccano! is set in the 1930's and conveys events that occurred in the past, Durarara!! is set in the modern time and conveys events that are occurring at the time, with some flashbacks. If you like one, you will most likely enjoy the other as well.
Now these are two series filled with random, awesome and violent stuff. Baccano! wins at every point, from the story to character development and animation. Durarara!!'s latter part disappoints and lacks the awesomeness that would've made it epic. Nevertheless, both series are good, with similar plots and characters, humour, and it will entertain every single fan of randomness and mindf*ck.
Both are well-animated, and are just fantatsic anime in general. Both have similar themes, and both will likely appeal to the same audience (an audience of action, comedy, and good taste:)). It is recommended you watch the [original?] Baccano! before Durarara!
They are alike in how the characters interact. With both stories so focused on character development and their interactions, it's likely if you liked one you will like both. Baccano! is much more violent, and this should be taken into consideration. Both are excellent and there are even shoutouts to Baccano! within Durarara!! I cannot recomend these series enough.
Seriously, check them out.
Both share a similar storytelling and feeling. Instead of just following a plot, it focuses in the different points of view of all the characters (which are a lot) and how all their stories are linked together. So, if you liked one, you would like the other.
Both have a bunch of characters in which all of their seperate stories collide together into one big story, and plus both of their first episodes leave a huge cliffhanger that makes you want to watch it and see how they got there.
Not only are they both from the same studio, but both weave a bunch of seemingly unconnected plot threads into a finished product of a great and cohesive story. Large casts of really lovable characters whose interactions are both touching and hilarious, and plenty of intrigue in both. Definite candidates for your new favourite series!
Both of these anime tell a very disjointed tale at first, from many different points of view, and slowly start to lose the blurs to reveal the true story.
They both use similar storytelling methods, but are set in completely different times.
The characters in both are instantly likeable, which is needed in order to grip the viewer right from the confusion at the beginning.
And I only noticed, both are Brains-Base, I don't know what significance that holds, but I'll certainly be checking out more animes from B-B. :)
If you liked one, I'm confident you'll enjoy the other.
Same creators, same feel, both feature large cast with a lot of amazing characters and both are extremely entertaining and story instead of being linear focuses on certain characters.
They were both created by the same person and are very similar in that they are about several different people who's stories ultimately intertwine.
I hate going with the flow so much because it makes your rec useless, since so many other people have said the exact same thing. but well, what needs to be said must be said, and Baccano! and Durarara!! are very similar. A huge cast of epic characters you won't find in any other anime, each of them with their own background and individual stories which intertwine into the main plot. Complex and intriguing, these series are both worth a shot... And you're sure to find in each at least one character you'll love!
I totally agree that this is a great two-way rec. Baccano and Durarara are similarly choreographed stories. Groups of unrelated persons wind up in the same overarching plot for their own reasons, with plenty of action and suspense.
This is really a no-brainer. Both Baccano! and Durarara!! are anime produced by Brains-Base, and they are stylistically very similar. A ton of memorable characters, crazy comedy, gangsters, gritty violence and a healthy dose of the supernatural. If you enjoyed one you will undoubtedly enjoy the other.
Durarara!! Has a few Baccano! references, Both series are super awsome. Both series where made by the same people and have simular ways of telling the story.
I advice you watch Baccano! first and right after it watch Durarara!!.
it's pretty obvious. They're from the same creator. Now that wouldn't mean much but!!!!
As a huge baccano fan I have always had trouble finding an anime that could come close to it. IMO even durarara doesn't, but it's above everything I've seen.
The character design is flawless - in both animes - not sticking to the anime character stereotypes and the stories are both uniquely told (is that a word) so that you actually have to keep up with the story in order to understand something.
Yet it isn't dry. Not at all. It's fun to watch thanks to flawless animations and the character design.
You will definitely enjoy the other one!!
Aside from the fact that they're both written by the same person, these shows are quite similar in feel and story progression. They offer a vast array of characters who, at first, seem totally unrelated. But as the episodes pass by, the puzzle pieces begin to fall in place and by the end your mind will be blown. You know the happy, fuzzy feeling you get when you solve a particularly difficult problem? Well, I got the same feeling watching both of these shows (but maybe that's just me).
Lots and lots of interesting characters who all play some sort of role, changing perspectives and an amazing storyline. Fans of one will surely enjoy the other show.
Same author, same studio. Both anime focuses on various characters from the underworld--criminals, violent gangs and misfits with splashes of the occult and the supernatural but set in a thoroughly mdern society with ours. While Baccano! had immortals and mysterious elixirs propelling the story along, Durarara!! has a dullahan, which according to Irish myths, is a headless rider. Like Baccano!, Durarara!! is told by an all-seeing narrator, populated by a large cast, and initially seems very scattered in terms of its but should begin to make sense the more episodes you see.
Pretty agree! Even they are similar in some kind of narration, Baccano seems more mature, complex and contains great side of humor. Both are from the same author so I don't see any reason to avoid this work! In the end you will surely regret its shortness!
The source light novels are written by the same author. Even better both series take place in the same universe at different times.
Both have compelling character with individual stories that are intretwined one way or another.
Both series written by same author, anime style seems same and in both series there are lots of main character.
as they both contain humor and action, they both contain some serious moments as well as a pretty solid plot.
Both Durarara!! and Baccano! are based on novels by the same author and are made by the same studio with many of the same people working on both projects (including the composer). They both have large cast different and distinct characters with different episodes focussing on an individual (or group) of character(s). In terms of narrative structure and style they are both extremely similar, with the main difference being that while Bacanno! occurs in a non-linear fashion with the episodes jumping between the characters in different time periods, Durarara!! does not and occurs in a more linear fashion. Durarara!! could essentially be labelled as "Baccano in modern Japan". Essentially, if you've seen one and you find yourself wishing for more of it, go watch the other and you will not be disappointed.
they're from the same makers and the same style, heck they even have the jump character perspective and follow different stories thing going on (however there's no time jumps in durarara!! as far as i remember)
in fact, some characters from baccano! even made a cameo in durarara!!not only that but both anime are really really good and have an incredible cast of characters
if you liked one you definitely liked the other
Same Company,Same Universe,Great Characters,and Nice Tone
Both are Genuinely a pleasure to watch and some Easter eggs of Baccano exist in Durarara
Both are episodic shows with characters completely different from each other but they come together later in the show.
Both create an immersive bones' atmosphere, whilst having complex stories enganging characters, and exploration of the underground. Arguably Baccano! is more fun, and demands repeat viewing whilst I felt Durarara!! looses itself somewhere along the way. Equally though, they are both essential viewing.
They are made by the same production company and based off light novels by the same author. They both have crazy plot and Isaac and Miria from Baccano! actually appear as background characters in Durarara!
Baccano! and Durarara!! were made by the same author, so it shouldn't be a surprise that if you like one you'll enjoy the other as well. One of the main things I enjoy about both series is that they have a ton of different storylines all going on and interweaving at the same time. They eventually bring everything together and all the pieces fit together like a puzzle, and just like completing a puzzle it is satisfying to watch everything come together so perfectly. I also love how both series mix in comedy and action into the well-thoughtout overall plot.
They're both made by the same creator and in the same Tarantino-Ritchie style. Also, the both focus on mafia/gang wars with a supernatural twist.
They come from the same writer. Both have great animation, voice acting imo, and multiple leading characters and storylines. Baccano is much more gorey, stories are both mostly about gangs, however in two very different settings. They both are told in a similar way, shifting between stories and characters perspectives. Both are just great!
Both animes are incredibly well done with beautiful animation. They are both easy to fall in love with. I recommend watching Baccano! first, then you will catch the hidden references in Durarara!!
From the same writer (Ryohgo Narita) comes this anime. The scenes goes back and forth and it's up to you to catch the information as it goes like the thriller show it is! I wouldn't miss it for the world!
Both are multi character main casts that have serious moments and light moments. All the characters have development and they all feel like the main character at one point or another.
First off, it's made by the same studio, which is incredibly obvious if you've seen one and want to watch the other. The pacing is similar with the plot completely jumbled and nothing really makes sense at first. The characters are quirky and unique in both. There is a supernatural element in both that takes a long time to be explained.
Both are super amazah! Lovable characters, great relationships (my favourite are Isaac and Miria (Baccano) and Celty and Shinra (Durarara!!)) and amazing script. Only downfall of Baccan is that there isn't more of it. Whereas Durarara! has got a lot of seasons so if you like it then it will keep you going for a while.
They're the same, yet different... It's hard to describe. The concept of there being multiple main characters with different stories and points of view is the same. However, Durarara!! has a more modern, gang war type of atmosphere, while Baccano! has a more complex, 20s style. Whatever your preference may be, Baccno!/Durarara!! is an anime worth your time.
In the year 2010, on a day called ‘Careless Monday', ten missiles hit the cities of Japan; miraculously, there are no casualties and the event quickly fades from public memory. Some time later, Saki Morimi decides to visit Washington, DC on her graduation trip to America, but that day begins a series of bizarre events. After getting into trouble with the police, she's rescued by a young man who is completely naked save for a gun in one hand and an even stranger item in the other - a phone credited with 8 billion electronic yen and a female voice on the other end called Juiz who will fulfill his every wish. Having no recollection of his past and calling himself ‘Akira Takizawa', the young man accompanies Saki back to Japan in the hopes of discovering who he is. Akira's enigma quickly proves fascinating and Saki decides to help him rather than reunite with her family; but what neither realizes is that Akira is embroiled in a dark game of life and death linked to the Careless Monday missiles. Has Saki just made a terrible mistake, and can Akira unravel his own mystery before they both lose everything?
Both of these shows are what I would call truly "modern" animes. Though cell phones and such have been featured in animes for years, these shows both use modern technology and the power of the internet heavily as a part of the plotline and center around the power of connectivity and the internet generation.
Each of these series have a lot of things going on that make it rather confusing and hard to keep up with, but manage to be great series. Other than that, it is kind of just a feeling that draws these series together in my mind.
Durarara and Eden of the East are two exciting, by the seat-of-your-pants type shows. With very interesting yet mysterious plots, they keep you guessing until the last minute. If you liked the fast paced action of one be sure to check out the other!
Eden of the East and Durarara!! are two surprisingly similar series; their plots could not be more contrasting, with DRRR!! focusing on the underground and Eden on nation-wide matters, yet they have an incredibly similar feel despite DRRR!!'s faster pace, and technology such as mobile phones being heavy elements of their plot only strengthens the similarity. If you enjoyed one story of mystery and intrigue, you're bound to enjoy the other!
Durarara and Eden are great modern anime. They both feature social networking and technology as plot devices. I also simply loved the animation quality for both of these series. All in all, while the plots are different, both of these series give me the same sort of feeling. If you enjoyed one you will at least appreciate the other.
Both are very modern. I'm so sad, that there is no a 'modern' tag ;) Cause the spirit of series are very similar. Characters use mobile phones and computer technologies, the internet and communications helps them in their life. Furthermore, the design and drawing are resembling each other a little bit.
Both of these anime involve getting people together using modern technology, such as the internet and cell phones. The feel of the anime is the same, and the characters are similarly drawn.
They are both modern and up-to-date technology. Drrr has a more fast-paced feel, Eden has a more slow-paced feel. The plot will connect both though.
Don't be skeptic. Try something new!
These two shows leave you wanting more. They are action-packed and suspenseful, yet also have a more sensitive, thoughtful side as they show characters struggling with decisions and relationships. Both also take place in cities, and use both the gritty and the glitzy sides of cities to weave their complex plots.
they both are animated well and are set in the same time period and feature the idea that there's power in numbers. and they both involve the underground powers that affect the city.
The main story in both series is pieced together in a way that also relies on side characters. If you like the story telling mechanic in one, you'll probably like the other.
The general feeling in Durarara!! and Eden of the East is very similar. In both, the main characters are surronded by plenty of mysteries that are slowly unraveled. Characters have modern technology and they make good use of it. So cellphones and the internet are used heavily throughout the series.
It is also noteworthy to mention that the character designs look quite alike.
The story telling is similar, the narration, I love how everything connects wonderfully. Eden of the east and Durarara are both on my favorites list becuase of the wonderful story telling and they really remind me of each other even though they're not very similar story wise.
Narumi Fujishima is an ordinary high school boy who is isolated from his classmates. When he reluctantly joins the gardening club and meets the reclusive, genius detective named Alice and her band of detectives known as the NEETs, Alice hires Narumi as an assistant and puts him to work solving the strange mysteries of Angel Fix, an illegal drug that makes people go crazy. Little does he know it could put him and Ayaka in serious trouble.
Both series are in a modern city setting, and involve things like gangs, criminals, etc. While Durarara!! has many events loosely connected to each other with lots of characters involved, Kamisama no Memo-chou involves solving numerous mysteries.
Both series depict a colorful variety of characters in a larger-than-life city. Each character is made with their own quirks, and the art styles are very similar.
Both of the anime focus on the hidden society within Tokyo's districts. With gangs and technology playing a major role in both anime, the feel is very similar. Though Durarara!! had a more supernatural element, I am sure that if you liked one, you'll like the other.
The characters are very similar. Ordinary, useless male protagonists. But they develop to be more manly, and more responsible. You wouldn't believe it.
Don't be skeptic. Try something new!
Both series are about a young man who manages to stumble upon a group of seemingly unrelated quirky people who function as a family or gang. The art styles are reminiscent of each other, as are the narrative styles.
Both series revolve around what appears to be at least regular guys who get involved in some mysteries and an underground world eccentric characters.
Both involve protagonists using gangs to improve quality of life for those around them and to solve problems. They also work hard and earn the respect of those around them. Quite a few querky characters and hidden plot suprises in both series as well.
Both anime involve a cast of characters, who live in this big city. Many different things are happening, and in some cases, gangs and the mafia run wild.
They both have a similar feel.
Both of the main characters are very similar, and there is an ensemble of interesting characters. Both deal with city life with gangs and the underworld although Durarara has a mystical element to it. If you like one, its a good chance you'll enjoy the other.
Koyomi Araragi is an aloof boy who holds a strange, supernatural secret which inadvertently leads him to others with similar stories. Gods, spirits and afflictions can be pesky things, taking important memories or causing unusual tendencies – a fact that Koyomi and others are unfortunately aware of. Using the help of an eccentric homeless man, Koyomi is able to help new friends he meets along the way with their own paranormal conundrums…
For some strange reason, both of these animes reminded me of eachother. They have totally different plots but give a similar feel.
Both have gorgeous animation, and is covered in mystery. Slow paced and the storyline is very jumbled up and you don't really know what you're watching, but nevertheless they're still good animes.
When watching Durararara!! you notice that the main characters that are girls become somewhat of a B-A during the entire series. Bakemonogatari has the same B-A main character female that is more intimidating than Sonohara-san but they both have the sense of shyness around others and somewhat of a mysterious side. Im sure that you will love Bakemonogatari if you like Sonohara-san and you like B-A intimidating attractive main characters.
One thing that is very rare to see in anime: Typography. The use of non-traditional fonts and styles and font arrangements can be seen all throughout both of these shows, and are use extremely well. Also, both shows take an existing stereotype and shatter it, either through their characters crazy personalities, realistic environments, dialogue or choice of setting.
I can't quite pinpoint the reasons why these shows remind me of each other, but it's a gut-feeling recommendation. I think the web of interconnecting stories with unique and interesting characters sets both of these shows apart. If you enjoyed piecing it all together in one show- give the other a try.
Both Bakemonogatari and Durarara!! are marvellous urban anime, concentrated on supernatural elements and human relationship. They are taking from mythology (Japanese and Celtic) and create urban life as something full of mystery and good humour, but also dramatic and dangerous. Durarara!! has got more "normal" action, when Bakemonogatari is more surrealistic. Both of them gave me a lot of fun when I was watching them, so I think, if You like that kind of atmosphere, You should watch Bakemonogatari as well as Durarara!!.
The Monogatari franchise and Durarara are two of a kind. Their similarities are more in the execution and themes rather than in story and characters. Neither anime can really be sufficiently summarized in a single sentence (or a few sentences for that matter), which makes connecting the two difficult, but even just based on the interweaving of the supernatural with the everyday in a quirky postmodern story is enough to link these two anime. Their connection goes much deeper in my opinion, but you'll have to watch them for yourself to be sure.
Japan has reclaimed its former glory under the guidance of Kings, charismatic individuals wielding incredible powers. But now, one of the Red King's vassals has been murdered, and a viral video shows the killer's confession at the scene. He is one Yashiro Isana, claiming to be the Colorless King; and he is now a wanted man - not only to the Red King's faction, but also the Blues charged with keeping the peace. He is even sought by Kuroh Yatogami, a knight of the former Colorless King sworn to slay any unworthy successor. Only, the subject of their struggle, "Shiro", is a nondescript young man living an unremarkable life in an island academy, and seems to have no recollection of killing anyone. To keep his life, Shiro must prove his innocence; but what is the truth behind his mysterious past, and what will be the outcome of this confrontation of Kings?
Both series have a similar atmosphere and setting (both are set in a big city) and both have a large amount of characters and you get to find out about each of them, although Durarara!! has more. There are also gangs involved with both anime. If you liked one, you should definitely check out the other.
Both K and Durarara have plots involving students who get themselves involved and large power struggles between rivaling gangs. Both casts are large, but full of memorable characters. Both contain supernatural elements as well. Furthermore, both of these have the setting be a large city.
In both K and Durarara!!, you get to see things through the viewpoints of various characters. Numerous questions are raised. Who is the good guy? Who is the bad guy? Is this character as innocent as they claim to be? What do they have to do with anything? With large casts and lots of stuff happening at once, you may want to remember names and faces. The story doesn't make much sense in either series until later on as things start to come together, so be prepared to buckle up.
There are still a few more things these two share - both are set in a large city, there are different gangs going at each other, and there's even some supernatural stuff going on to spice things up. It's undeniable - if you liked one, you should definitely be interested in the other.
Durarara!! and K are similar in the fact that the protagonist gets involved in wars between big groups ruling the city
When I started to watch K, I got an instant Durarara!! vibe to it! They both take place in a city, both of them have similar themes, such as gangs, different people that have different goals. Some characters even look similar to each other! Kusanagi is the spitting image of Shizuo!
Both anime's have the same type of vibe.
A bit of the supernatural, a lot of gang fights, and some kid caught in the middle. With the view point constantly shifting, these anime let the cast tell the story. The big city is up for the taking and everyone wants a piece of the turf, but you don't have to pick a side when you pair these anime up.
After a breach between Earth and the netherworld opens up over New York, humans and creatures from other dimensions become trapped in an impenetrable bubble that surrounds the city. Forced to coexist in a new city known as Salem’s Lot, the shaky peace between humanity and the netherworld creatures is protected by an underground group of super humans known as Libra. When a case of mistaken identity brings not-so-ordinary delivery boy Leonardo Watch face-to-face with this group, he joins their ranks hoping to help prevent the destruction of the world by a group of monsters and madmen lead by a powerful being known as the King of Despair.
Blood Blockade Battlefront pretty much reminded of me Durarara because of the anime style and characters. Both had action, comedy and good characters
Both shows center around a main character that has come to a new city and finds themselves surrounded by a unique set of individuals. Both animes are also set in cities where things that would be crazy anywhere else are just another day there. Both have action, comedy, and intresting characters. The feel of the Blood Blockade Battlefront also reminded me of Durara in that the plot gets better and more complex as the show continues. In my opinion Durarara is the superior show, but both are worth a watch, so if you like one you should check the other out.
The information spreads like fire and the thrill is unmatched. Just like Drrr!!, something is brewing, and every episode will tell you a bit of each characters' story. Also, the side humour. Don't forget that!
Both of these shows have a great sense of humor about them and excellent character development. Soundtracks are on point, as well. There is more fantasy in BBB than in Drrr, but they both play with a sort of magical realism that's fun even when the plot is heavy. I would also recommend either of these to fans of all genres. Even if the action-y shows aren't your favorites, both of these are a must watch for all anime fans if only for their general awesomeness in casting, character development, world building, animation, and music.
The main character goes to a new city, and soon finds his place with a set of characters with plenty of different personalities.
Both series are similar in that the main character that seems to fit the definition of average moves into a hectic city where he meets a host of interesting characters while finding his place and getting mixed up in the supernatural.
Besides the plot similarities, I think the biggest similarity is the focus on the city in which the story takes place. The city in which they live feel very much alive and is a motivating factor in the story as much as the main cast.
Both have action and comedy although one series does it better. Both are pretty fast paced and can somewhat be confusing at times, Blockade due to its pacing and stance on not telling you everything about its world, and Durarara due to its large cast with varying motivations and a complex relationship web.
The eccentric mad scientist Okabe, his childhood friend Mayuri, and the otaku hacker Daru have banded together to form the Future Gadget Research Laboratory, and spend their days in a ramshackle laboratory hanging out and occasionally attempting to invent incredible, yet generally useless, futuristic gadgets. However, their claymore is a hydrator and their hair dryer flips breakers, and the only invention that’s even remotely interesting is their Phone Microwave, which transforms bananas into oozing green gel. But when an experiment goes awry the gang discovers that the Phone Microwave can also send text messages to the past. And what's more, the words they send can affect the flow of time and have unforeseen, far-reaching consequences...
Durarara!! and Steins;Gate share quite a few interesting themes:
If you liked any of these aspects in one series, you'll most likely also enjoy the other.
Also, there's the "same voice actor" bonus: Mamoru Miyano and Hana Kanazawa.
DRRR!! and Stein both start out as fairly light-hearted explorations of new experiences, but, as hinted, slowly evolve into a much darker and more serious overtone.
It should be noted that Stein is much more of a mindrape than DRRR!!, but at the same time, DRRR!! has a fair bit more pure, ridiculous awesomeness than Stein.
I absolutely loved both of these animes. If you enjoyed the connections between the characters slowly surfacing in Durarara!! then you should give Steins;Gate a go.
Both animes are fairly intricate, and I recommend them both if you're looking for a great plot with some humor thrown into the mix.
Steins;Gate and Durarara both have mystery to some extent and you are unable to predict what is going to happen next and thats the reason I love them both
Both anime are about bizarre phenomena occurring in a city setting, with various events that all end up tying together in the end.
Have you ever felt like the world would be a better place if certain people weren’t around? Such grim daydreams might occur when watching the dismal daily news, but on one fateful day, Light Yagami finds that these daydreams can become reality. By pure happenstance, he comes across a black notebook entitled "Death Note", whose text within states that whoever's name is written on its pages will die. With the aid of the death god Ryuk, Light takes it upon himself to rid the world of its corruption, ushering in a new era of purity one death at a time. But as Ryuk foretells, Light's actions will not go unchallenged...
even though durarara!! has an enourmous intro(10 eps) and death note takes off right from the beginning, Both have an incredible amount of story, also they both have awesome character cast of extraordinary people.
Both animes are very alike, even though Death Note is better in my opinion, Durarara!! is definately worth watching
They both share elaborate schemes that will keep you guessing and rivalries where they hate and love each other.
It's awesome, they both have many similar qualities in the genre and it's just worth watching in general.
these anime were full of twist and epic story plot. nice to watch, very entertaining... Very recommended!
Both have a general crime theme and illegal activities, and both have a fantasy element. I honestly couldn't choose a favourite, they're both so good. Durarara!! has funny elements where there are significantly fewer in Death Note
The incidents which occurred on August 14th and 15th bring a group of young boys and girls together… They are members of a group they call themselves the “Mekakushi Dan” (Blindfold Organization) and each member possesses a strange power involving their eyes. Will the members of this peculiar organization be able to solve the mysteries behind these incidents and see the truth?
Durarara!! and Mekaku City Actors have a very similar art styles and plot. Both are about people with supernatural/bizarre powers living in the same city and crossing their paths even when at first they all seem to be independent stories.
Both Durarara!! and Mekakucity Actors are filled with action and the supernatural. They start off with a bunch of unrelated characters and stories that all come together in the end. The two even share some of the voice actors.
Both take place in a crowded city, they have characters who have secrets and special abilities and as the story goes, the plot gets bigger and bigger. They both have a similar vibe to each other.
These two series involve supernatural abilities and a large group of interesting and important main characters (both stories are told from multiple POV), who are more connected than it seems at first glance; both are also crafted with a story that intertwines the characters lives that ties into the city they reside in.
Similar dark, mysterious atmospheres based around urban heroes.
Both contain a weird city and the supernatural. They also have intense scenes and loveable characters, they have a pretty simular art style.
A giant wall looms over Tokyo, shielding the city from a dangerous otherworld called the 'Hell's Gate'. Within the city, things are no less terrifying because Contractors, psychopathic killers with phenomenal powers, have started to appear. These killers are compelled to pay a price every time they use their powers, often in the form of a meaningless or painful task. As their deadly habits rack up a gruesome death toll, Kirihara Misaki and her team from the Foreign Affairs Public Security struggle to solve the cases and bring the Contractors under control. Their task is further confounded by the interference of a masked individual they title Messier Code BK201, a man with abilities that allow him to fight and defeat the Contractors. Who is this BK201? How can the Contractors be stopped permanently? And what does the appearance of the Hell's Gate mean for the people of Tokyo?
Darker than Black and Durarara both share a similar atmosphere of mystery, style of animation, and wide-ranging cast of characters. Both are shounen's, but neither fit the stereotypical mold and have more anti-hero characters rather than heroes.
Both have urban settings and characters that aren't what they first appeared. Also, they have a darker sense of humour with a supernatural element.
Darker than Black has smaller cast but you still see how a group of characters intereact and are related to each other which is what Durarara!! is mainly about.
These two is as different as can be, but their supernaturalisms are both AWESOME. They have this dark atmosphere and this cool feel...
In Darker than Black and in Durarara!! we see a world that is a lot like ours, but in reality underneath that familiar exterior is something much darker, more mysterious. People who look average and dont stand out in crowds, can in reality be more than you think. Despite being set in realistic circumstances, we see supernatural characters that are often percieved as urban legends rather than existing people, but in both cases they are proven to exist and strongly influence lives of oblivious citizens.
Both of these animes are unique, but they are certainly of a similar genre and have similar drawing styles. Im sure that if you liked one, youll like the other too
