Sword of the Stranger

Sword of the Stranger

Kotarou is a brash young orphan in war-torn Japan, on the run from mysterious pursuers with Tobimaru, his faithful canine companion. Clueless as to why anyone would want him, much less imperial warriors from mainland China, a chance encounter with a strange wandering swordsman could not be more unwelcome in Kotarou's skeptical eyes – especially when the stranger has a secret past that has caused him to seal his blade. Forced by circumstance to work together for survival, the unlikely duo forge a tenuous friendship that is threatened all too soon when Kotarou's pursuers thrust the two into a dizzying whorl of clashing ambitions between men both big and small. Will the stranger manage to overcome his past and save them both from peril with his blade?

While one is a movie and the other is a full 26 episode show, they are both very similiar in over all feel and characters. They both revolve around a strong samurai who is followed by a young boy and a dog. Sword of the stranger is a bit more realistic than dororo, but if you liked one I bet you would like the other.

GeGeGe no Kitarou

GeGeGe no Kitarou

In a small, secluded hut far from town lives a young ghost boy by the name of Gegege no Kitarou and his tiny talking eyeball of a father. Despite his eerie nature, Kitarou spends his days trying to help the human world co-exist in harmony with the spooks and youkai that would otherwise cause them harm. From helping to retrieve a demonic baseball bat from a young boy to scaring off a hostile monster who is stealing children’s souls, Kitarou and his father do their best to maintain the peace with the help – or possibly hindrance – of the rodent-like Nezumi Otoko and the rest of his creepy friends.

Both shows revolve around demons and are timeless classics. While dororo is focused on a samurai hunting demons, and gegege is about a demon just making a living they both have the overall same feel. If you like old animes about with demons in it and loved one of these you will surely like the other.
