The second season of Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro.
The most dynamic and comic romance anime. This anime is awesome, you should watch it :)
As I’ve said in my review of the first season the second season has to evolve the characters and relationship. It does that noticeably. It could do bit more imho. The paisen is becoming more proactive and bit better at reading Nagatoro. It’s very slow relationship evolution. I enjoyed interactions of characters in this season especially between the two main characters for the most time. The second season does introduce Nagatoro’s older sister, which teases Nagatoro in similar manner. It’s fun to see Nagatoro get bit of her own ijiri. There are few other new characters as well. Visually the series is same as the first season. It shifts more from ijiri to romcom, but it still preserves all the enjoyable expressions and wave motions of Nagatoro. However, I have to say there were moments during the season, when I wasn’t eager to watch the next episodes. Soundtrack works really well for the series as before, but I don’t care about OP/ED. I think, if you enjoyed the first season, you should definitely watch this one as well. It’s at least decent one-time watch. It was good, not great, but good.
OLM Studio’s 2023 follow up to the 2021 first season (Telecom Animation Film) is a genuine case of a show that actually gets better with age. If anything, season two is better than season one. It doesn’t drop the ball at all. If season one was just scene-dressing this this is the real deal. The story proceeds to fill in the details of the lives of Hayase Nagatoro and Naoto Hachiouji. We learn more about their circle of friends, their hobbies and activities. They go skiing together and attend the same martial arts club. Naoto stops using glasses in favour of contact lenses. He mans-up a great deal more in the second season too. He has come to terms with how he feels about Miss Nagatoro yet still finds it hard to distinguish between the times she is messing with him and when she is trying to express genuine affection for him. For her part she start to drop even bigger hints about her growing love for the boy but she seems unwilling to commit herself unless he takes the initiative. The story is told from his perspective but in one scene (where she cares for him whilst he is sick) she really, really wants to kiss him. Her growing desire to be kissed by Naoto is a feature of season two. The audience will be well rewarded by this show. Unlike similar High School romances this is a story that makes progress. The relationship does move on and is a joy to watch. The trajectory is plain and simple. The problems the couple face, in coming to terms with how they feel for each other, is an utterly genuine expression of the human experience. The writing and pacing in all this is absolutely spot on. Other animes should really pay attention. This is how you do High School romance. A thing of beauty. Genius. Utterly beautiful to watch.
