Digimon Adventure Movie: Last Evolution Kizuna

Tai is now a university student, living alone, working hard at school, and working every day, but with his future still undecided. Meanwhile, Matt and others continue to work on Digimon incidents and activities that help people with their partner Digimon. When an unprecedented phenomenon occurs, the DigiDestined discover that when they grow up, their relationship with their partner Digimon will come closer to an end. As a countdown timer activates on the Digivice, they realize that the more they fight with their partner Digimon, the faster their bond breaks. Will they fight for others and lose their partner? The time to choose and decide is approaching fast. There is a short time before “chosen children” will become adults. This is the last adventure of Tai and Agumon.

As a long time fan of the Digimon franchise, especially the Adventure series. Watching this movie felt like coming home. This was the 20th anniversary movie so of course I had high expectations. For the animation, the backgrounds were absolutely flawless as they always were. I think the only thing that let it down was there was enough colouring to the hair otherwise it was amazing. Also, when they flashed back to the first movie with toddler Tai and Kari I did think it aged the original quite a lot but to re-animate it probably would have upset a lot of people. As for sound I have always found the music in Digimon, all series not just Adventure, to be beautiful. The emotional scores before the final battle even made me cry with music alone. The sound effects for me personally were absolutely amazing. As for the characters and story itself, it's only appropriate to talk about them together. The original characters as always were amazing, building from 3 series there was a lot for them to work with. However, when it came to their careers held in the 02 epilogue compared to now, there were a few inconsistencies. For Sora, it's easy to see how she can go from flower arranging to fashion, however she was barely in this story. However this makes sense as we see in the Memorial Story "To Sora" she has moved away from the others and is barely involved with them anymore. For Mimi, she runs her own compay which at this moment in time seems like a strange segue into running her own cooking show. For the others their futures are pretty solidified in this story. As for the villain, it was pretty obvious from the get go. She, in my opinion, already knew more than she should have let on to be a shock villain. The FBI twist however was pretty clever. I do think though that they should have used this story to pick up from where Tri left off. We still don't know what's happened with Dark Gennai or King Drasil. I would have preffered to pick up on a plot left open than a brand new one. I did like the stakes of the losing their Digimon however which helped encapsulate having to let go of our childhoods and things and people who made us feel safe and loved. HOWEVER yet again even though the final line was "we will meet again", it's difficult to see how this film leads into the 02 epilogue which the creators confirmed is still cannon to the series, especially since looking at the pictures in the end credits, the older DigiDestined have already lost their Digimon leaving only the younger ones with their, clearly leading for 02 The Beginning. I also believe the whole "unless you still have more potential" to be very 2d as truthfully I believe we never lose potential in adulthood, especially young adulthood, as we're still really only in the beginning of our lives. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie, any part of the Adventure series is a win in my book. I would have liked plot holes and open ends to have been closed but maybe that could happen in 02 The Beginning, which isn't out in my country yet, but I very much doubt that. I hope in the future that we can get at least one more story to help tie everything into a neat bow to tie it back to the canon 02 epilogue. I still really enjoyed this film though and will always recommend it to a fellow Digimon fan, but I will also warn them that this leaves more questions than answers.
