D.Gray Man I found to be a quite good anime that I would say I enjoyed watching. I felt like it would've been fine if it only had 26 episodes. A lot of the canon episodes made me feel as if they were fillers due to their slow plot pace. (e.g finding Marian Cross, they encountered way too many other problems than it was needed.) I only started to thoroughly enjoy and become interested at episode 74. The characters were fun to watch especially Kanda and Allen's arguements near the end. I found Lenalee to be annoying as the story drew on. She became quite clingy. Her character development disappointed me.

This anime was ok. The following are the complaints of a 20 year-old college student.

PLOT:

The way the plot for this anime works is that it leaves certain things out in its explanations of things (like the origin of the Akuma) in the beginning and gradually adds shenanigans as the story progresses to make a conclusion of the story a child's dream. This should be fine, since it is a popular plot strategy, but I feel that they overdue it since any clarification they offer only results in even more questions than before. In addition, the story doesn't reach a conclusion which makes the anime seem like it's selling the manga.

Another point that bothered me about the anime was the christianity element of the anime. In the beginning, I believed that they might explore the forgiving nature of christianity in this anime and they did. They did a terrible job too. For example, the main character at some point in the anime became the "God's Clown" (Equivalent to supersaiyan). He then reached out and started saying things along of the line of "I will save you even if your an Akuma". He then reverts to the usual Akuma hate speech a couple of episodes later XD.

OVERALL:
As I was watching this show, I kept getting the feeling that this anime would get bettter and better. Unfortunately, I just kept getting that feeling until the end of the show. Also, I was never super ecstatic about watching the next episode (with the exception of episode 52-54 I think). It took forever for anything to happen too. I feel that this lack of excitement is due to the fact that this show was not as dark as I expected it to be.

However, this anime did have good action and character development. I would recommend this show to anyone who doesn't mind watching anime that is directed towards a young age group.

The anime adaptation of the manga disappointed me, it felt as though all the peculiarities that made the D.Gray-Man manga unique were smoothed out for the anime. I guess anime is a watered down version of the manga so to speak, a reasonable initiative by the producers of the anime, as to open D.Gray-Man to a wider audience, otherwise it may have been too dark or gruesome for younger viewers.

Like most animes, I recommend reading the manga wherever possible. Nevertheless, D.Gray-Man the anime is a solid watch, there’s plenty of action to be had and a little space to be bored as you learn about the world of the exorcists..

Great series, its stops at 52 but gets much better after that the second half of the series is dark and brooding and definitely worth a watch.

Wow I’m finally finished with this one oof that took ~forever~ :-) !! This is gonna be an HONEST, OPINIONATED, review that contains SPOILERS so read at your own discretion! But hey it’s your fault if you read a spoiler since this anime came out YEARS ago so it’s not my fault :p

(Some episodes that I particularly enjoyed: 2, 6, 8, 21, 24, 27, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 67, 69, 70, 71, 80, 81, 86, 87, 91, 92, 93, 95, 100, 103)

My favorite ops: Innocent Sorrow and Gekidou

The plot: “Set in an alternate 19th century, the story focuses on an organization of exorcists, named the Black Order, as they defend humanity against the Noah Family, reincarnations of Noah and his twelve apostles whom bear hatred towards humanity and God led by a man known as the Millennium Earl. The exorcists' main weapon against the Noah Family are sentient holy artifacts called Innocence. Innocence comes in a variety of forms, varying from everyday objects such as boots to grandfather clocks, to weapons such as swords and guns; regardless of their form, each Innocence possesses unique offensive and supportive abilities and will only work for the wielder of their choosing. Out of the 109 Innocence hidden and scattered throughout the world, one of them is the master Innocence/Heart; whichever side obtains this Innocence first will win the war. In contrast to the Innocence, the Noah Family's weapons are derived from a power source known as Dark Matter. Dark Matter, grants the Noah superpowers, along with the ability to create and control demons.

The story follows a kid named Allen Walker who is a new recruit to the Black Order and has started training to control his Innocence after it destroyed the Akuma of his late guardian, Mana. The story begins in a ‘villain of the week fashion,’ where Allen teams up with various members of the Black Order to search for Innocence while battling Noah's demons on the way.” THANKS WIKIPEDIA I REALLY DIDN'T FEEL LIKE SUMMARIZING THIS ON MY OWN LOL! Anyways the main points you gotta take away from that is: akuma = bad, millenium earl, allen cursed because mana died, and exorcists = good! (frankly though, if i’m being honest, akuma aren't even that scary like.. These background character town folk be screaming for their damn lives that a kiss/insane clown posse face lookin ass blastoise balloon is shooting purple lasers at them.) Anyways, season 3 (in my opinion) was when the show’s plot finally started to get somewhat interesting though still remained thoroughly confusing!!!

Main Character Time!!! *:・゚✧*:・゚✧

-Allen: sweetie!! Also we luv timcanpy! He like food but he also a crybaby sometimes and im like hh we get it lol but i stan still! And I know allen is a kid and all (15), but watching him get his ass kicked battle after battle starts to get second-hand embarrassing like.. When does he become good at fighting lol (ep 50s).. But ooO wait his eye changed into something cooler and his pentagon scar is filled now wooo so interesting but literally no one commented on it like did anyone even noticed he changed i-!!! I like how he’s good at cards and that he gambles and cheats hehe. Sometimes he acts too mr nice guy mana mask like i wanna see him THROW DOWN honey! Like Crown Clown hehe~He looks so much cooler with that new innocence power :3~He got that Beldam/Other Mother hand now + he has “flowy” (slightly longer) white hair now which is cute! Still we stan a wholesome, polite, cursed, white-hair old man-ass, exorcist boi and his Transcendence with his innocence is so cool woah~ his arm became a sword like the millennium earl’s sword :3 “The boy the Earl couldn't change into a demon” OK ALSO WE LOVE A PIANO PLAYER YES 14th<3

-Timcanpy: tim be like: ~ \(°∀°)/ ~

Other Characters I Enjoyed/Wanna Talk About!!!・:*:・゚☆

-LenaLee: i had this whole thing typed out about how i thought she was a cute, sweet character but as the anime progressed, i seriously started to hate her lmao. The only cool thing “she” ever did was when her boots innocence protected her but even still it was lame because then her legs stopped working and it kind of cancelled out the coolness. Ya i dont really wanna rant about her so imma just leave it at: i have no feelings for her and she’s super bland imo!!!! (her boots went from black to red with butterflies which i guess was cool :/ )

-Lavi: BUNNY BOOKMAN BABY UWU !!! lavi my boi who finally shows up in ep 12 hehe<3 i luv him he cutie or whateva~ tbh he reminds me so much of Ginga from beyblade (which i stan) so like i have to stan his twin handy manny over here with his big hammer little hammer headass. He’s a wholesome character and hes training to be the new bookman so we love an intellectuel! Erm his weapon isn’t ~that~ cool LOL but it’s fine because only the main character needs to be good at fighting all the time i guess lmao. I still like Lavi though!!!!

-Kamou: freak sister-complex weirdo but like we appreciate a stupidass leader.

-Kanda: meanie boi with long girl hair and a sword. Idk how i feel about him like tbh i barely watched the episodes that were just about his missions LOL like i get it he’s the tsundere character but idk he’s BORING to me like he aint that good at fighting ~TEA~ but no one on this show is very op so whatever. I also like how he doesn't necessarily like Allen bcuz (if we’re being honest sis Allen would start to annoy me too LOL) not all the characters have to fuck with the main i respect that shit. He also keeps to himself and minds his damn business which is nice like all these anime characters have to act all extra and shit all the time and he’s just in a constant state of ‘ -_- ‘ which i respect OKAY SAMURAI! But idk as the anime progressed i started to like him more! He’s cute okay.

-Marian Cross: old fart meanie but also a cutie dad<3; “Cross is Allen's master, who takes guardianship of him after Mana's death and trains him to become an exorcist. He was not the ideal mentor, and abandoned Allen to find the Black Order on his own three months prior to the story (after knocking him out with a hammer), as well as putting him through a very dangerous training regimen, and accumulating ridiculously enormous debts which drove Allen into gambling (which Cross seems to approve of). Allen, who never speaks highly of his master, is shown to have panic attacks even at mere mentions of Cross, and suffers nightmares at the prospect of meeting him again. Cross refers to Allen as "idiot apprentice" most of the time. It is revealed that Cross teases Allen because he likes to bring out Allen's dark and snarky side, probably as it is more like the real Allen than the polite "Mask of Mana" Allen usually wears. That mask has always disturbed Cross. Despite their outward attitude, it is shown that they do care deeply for each other. Cross regards Allen as his own child (CUTE), and thinks that Allen is cute (DOUBLE CUTE). For months after Mana's death, Cross fed, cleaned and nursed the traumatised Allen as he recovered from the excruciating pain from his cursed wound.” Enough said! Thanks d.gray-man wiki~ It took FOREVER for this stupid old fart to even make an appearance as a character in the show like jesus how hard is it to find an old exorcist dude with long red hair.. Still, we stan an unbothered, late king. (he finally fucking shows up in ep 91!!!!)

-Krory: BORING, IRRELEVANT, thank you, next

-Miranda: eh idc thank you, next

-Road: she cute and evil (noah) which is fun. I like how she’s the ‘oldest’ but also looks the youngest of the Noahs and her power to warp between dimensions and fabricate dreamworlds is badass! Tbh i imagined her being a fiery lesbian but for some reason near eps 85-86 she was all ‘allen is my boyfriend hehe!’ like okkk i guess! Also her dad x daughter relationship with the Earl is cute okay!

-Millenium Earl: thicc clown boi! I know he’s the main villain and all but like… shit he kinda thicc~ he also got hoooeess callinnnn his motherfuckin phoonnesss (SORRY, I AM SO SORRY I’LL LEAVE)!!!

-Tyki Mikk: okay i know he evil and all but like,,, he kinda hot! We stan human-looking tyki as well as mr cat in the hat abraham lincoln top hat tyki! It’s cute that he lives a Hannah Montana double life and also that he’s an evil baddie! Tall, dark, and handsome mmm honey! I WANT HIM TO KILL ALL THE EXORCISTS!!!! <3 xoxo ok

-Lero: lero lero lero :3 we stan a spazzy pumpkin umbrella golem!!!

-Bak: he cute leader of the asian branch :3 he gets nervous hives bcuz he’s flawed and we stan that! Also he has a boner for lenalee (LIKE EVERYONE ELSE) but like… he can do better LOL<3

-Fou: tsundere deity cutie! She’s hot-headed but caring and fun and her and bak r cute hehehe

-David and Jasdero (Jasdevi): emo twin boy-band lookin ass noahs. they’re stupid asf but i kinda liked them lol when they had to scrub dishes and shit to pay of general cross’ debts i’ll admit i had a chuckle at their antics. Also i think their materialization power and how they play/goof off is groovy but that fucking song when they were morphing into Jasdevi i-i can’t that made me big cringe haha but it’s still ace. Also when krory ‘killed’ them they just poofed down that hole and no one said a damn thing like- does anyone know what happened to them or-???

Rating/Overall Thoughts!!♩♪♩

Overall I rate this anime a 10 (i had to)! This show was kinda cringey at times and the action scenes were kinda shit, but it’s such a good show to me I look past it. The only bad thing, though, about shows like this that have 100+ episodes, is that the plot gets sooo boring after a while because you get 40 episodes in nothing has really happened yet and the episodes drag on forever like it takes 5 episodes to finish one battle i’m like omggg when does something interesting happen! I can only take ‘the exorcists visit a new town and kill an akuma’ so many times before it starts to get boring. Like seriously i need constant drama and new op powers and pain and suffering to be entertained!!!! And don't even get me started on the fucking Madame Lulubell and Mimi part like OMG that plot was soooo boring holy shit every episode was the same thing they’d make a shit plan to take out the exorcist gang and then be all  ‘oo shit we failed they got away! let’s try again tomorrow haha!’ Like omfg stop we get it please stop im begging you plz when does the plot get interesting :( !! where’s general cross please save me (ep 91). But Idk maybe I’ve just been deprived of good action for so long because, episodes 52-56 fucking SLAP though and the plot finally picked up! also (wow is this paragraph even coherent at this point) this is one of those shows where the characters all preach ‘THE POWER OF BELIEVING IN MY FRIENDS WILL DEFEAT YOUR EVIL!!!’ which is like- kinda cringe but i’m fine with it lol. But still i just wish they made anime DARKER and more MATURE like enough with the frilly ‘you are bad guy grr i love my friends<3 so i will stop u!!’ like i need more gore and cussing and TIDDIES! :-) fuck i also have that ‘DUN DUN .. DUN DUN..’ soundtrack that they always play during tense scenes in my head LOL

Anyways,,,, since i finally finished this, i’m more intrigued to watch D.gray-man Hallow and also to get more into reading the manga. I honestly feel like i could’ve skipped the anime and just read the manga and then watched Hallow but too late now LOL so yeah~ moral of the story is: tyki could get it, allen is adorable, lero is  a queen, millenium earl is a thicc boi, and marian takes FUCKING FOREVER to show up but perhaps i love him! (edit: the manga is literally amaizng though 10/10 thank you hosino senpai)

FIN

that's all folks :-)
