Black Butler

Black Butler

In Victorian England it is commonplace for the rich and wealthy to have a staff, led by a head butler, to run their households; the Phantomhive Estate is no different. The young and demanding Count Ciel Phantomhive, child owner of a toy company, lives in the grand countryside manor. Sebastian is his head butler, and the epitome of perfection; he effortlessly and gracefully completes his day-to day chores and fixes the countless mistakes of the other employees. However, whilst on the outside all seems prim and proper, a more sinister secret lies just beneath the surface. Sebastian is in fact a demon bound by a contract with the young count; he will loyally serve and fight for him in return for his soul.

In both Kuroshitsuji and Makai Ouji, both MCs are headstrong young men from wealthy families, have experienced tragedies, and are surrounded by a multitude of good-looking bishie demons. With a touch of comedy and plenty of drama, the similarities between these two shows are hard to miss.

Angels, demons, rich people, and more homoerotic undertones than you shake a stick at. Good in one, good in the other.

I love kuroshitsuji, its fun and good i recommend people to watch kuroshitsuji and kuroshitsuji 2

Demons, taking souls, occult, and dealing with some supernatural beings plus hot butlers in both these animes give them a similar feel and provides a similar experience. Both also take place around the same time period in history.

Epimondas Epimondas says...

Rich guy young student lead character in Black Butler and Devils and Realist.  A demon associate of immense power though to be honest I lean toward Dantalion as being more powerful than Sebastian with respect to his position and demonstrations on how well he matches against even the most powerful of angels in the series.  There are butlers in both with shall we say altnerate identities?  Demons, monsters, heaven, and hell feature as prominent elements in both in one way or another.

JordanJas JordanJas says...

Both feature demons and a young master, both are about spoiled rich kids, both have dead family members and both tell an interesting story with good fights.

RogueLynx RogueLynx says...

its like everybody's already said demons, angels, headstrong rich kid who's sufferred tragedy, great comedy, master-servant relationship... Kuroshitsuji is way, way, WAY weirder than Devils and Realist though, and a far superior anime series imo.

Psychodeathgeass Psychodeathgeass says...

I dont know.. i like both and very much.. maybe Kuroshitsuji is better because it has 2 series. But both are about demons and noble mens and I like these motives.

the concept of summoning a demon and them serving you is a common one in the anime world, but bessides this trope, the anime differ vastly. both are borderline BL tho, so there is that

But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

Faux-Victorian England, young aristocrats who just happen to be orphans, contracts with demons and supernatural entities popping up at all times, fancy dressing: it could either be Pandora Hearts or Makai Ouji. Apart from all this they combine a lot of parody with drama and rely heavily on a cast of very pretty males between which there are enough BL undertones to go around.

sothis sothis says...

Pandora Hearts and Makai Ouji share a victorian feel, fantastical bishies and a similar mix of darkness and comedy. They just share the same tone - try out one if you liked the other.

Both are supernatural fantasy anime with some comedy. Both anime have bishounens surrounding the lead character. However, Makai Ouji's protagonist is a male while Kamigami no Asobi's is a female.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

Both of these animes have a similar feel about them, especially how they end. The character types are also similar and both involve different worlds/realms/what ever you want to call it. Devils and Realists involves heaven, hell, and the human world and Kamigami involves the human world and the world of the gods. Both involve some otherworldly characters going to human or human like school and having to learn to deal with humans. Devils and Realists has demons in a human school and Kamigami has a human attending a school with several gods from different mythology in a school modeled after schools in the human world. Both of these anime center around a human who for some reason is dragged into dealing with the beings from the other worlds without their consent (who gets dragged to another world willingly anyways?) and is stuck in their situation until they complete a single mission. If you liked one, you will probably like the other, although Kamigami has more romance and less fighting and supernatural events.

Both contain powerful beings represented as school students, all somewhat fixated on a protagonist who finds themselves caught up in something they never intended.

These two series have a very simmilar feel and art style between them. Highly recomend both of them. Both involve the re-incarnation of a main character followed by lots of bishounen.

littlewyman littlewyman says...

They both have strong bonds between the protagonist male and the male from his past. Also both William and Yuki don't remember their pasts.

Both anime have strong BL undertones where one male character is overly protective of the main male protagonist. They also dabble with reincarnation as well.

Epimondas Epimondas says...

There are quite a few similarities between Devils and Realists and 07 Ghost.  The setting, at least in the beginning are identical.  The goals of the characters to be paragons of society are similar.  The twist about who are good and bad has a similar ring as well as demons, angels, and the lead characters of both are reincarnations of some important figure from the past.  There is alot of magic use in both shows.  Both settings take place in religious schools.  Both stories have powerful friends/guardians watching over the main character from various enemies trying to take them or do harm to them.

hotspot hotspot says...

Strong BL undertones that involve magic. The main character is close to someone in the beginning of the story who comes off as a love interest and loses connection with them, where as they start to become closer to another character, who also comes off as a love interest.

Magic, demons, misunderstood orphaned lead character, hidden powers, both good and evil forces after lead character for their own selfish reasons.  Yep both series share alot in common. Also worthy of note, Krul Tepes and Eligos look eerily similar to each other but Krul looks like the younger version of Eligos while Eligos looks like the older more mature version of Krul.

Both anime have BL tendencies involving two guys who are of a different species. (Human & Vampire | Human & Demon).

Reasons you might like High School DxD...

Epimondas Epimondas says...

The biggest similarities between High School DxD and Devils and Realist are mainly to do with the connection to hell and demons.  The lead characters in both kind of end up connected in a similar fashion, technically through death either reincarnation or death and resurrection.  Both characters become a focal point of sorts of demons and angels.  There is at least one eyesore in hell in both cases that obsesses over the lead character.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

Religion, angels, devils, and school play huge parts in the plots of both these animes. While the mc of Highschool DXD becomes a devil and fights alongside his fellow devil friends, the mc of Devils and Realist is a scientific young man who is responsible for choosing the next devil king, except he doesn't really believe in all that stuff. However, the Angel Michael in these animes are totally opposites.

D. Gray Man and Devils and Realists have that religious overtone, an education institution like home station, battles against demons, a hidden powered character,  and both main characters have a similar disconnection from common society like no family or orphaned.
