"Popular, but... are you sure ?"
I'm a gamer so Devil May Cry serie is familiar for me. But I was very surprised when I discovered anime with the same name.
As fast as possible I started to watch it. How it was? I was quite dissapointed, but I tell everything in sequence.

"Feel like in seventh heaven..."
The beggining of anime was badass. Imagine, main character Dante goes in bar, orders strawberry dessert and after moment he beats up monsters.
Whoah! That was sick I thought. That music and line... it made me watching more episodes.

"...but not all gold that glitters"
And there ends positives of that anime. Second episode and I see protagonist who sits behind desk and talking on the phone about debts. Really?
Everyone who played video games from that serie didn't recognise that Dante had any debt. Suddenly is coming man with moustache and gives to Dante quest.
He has to transport little girl who is heir of her family. And I swear that young lady is the most annoying character in that anime(skipping fact that there are worse characters)
and she will crush your mood while watching this.

The further you go, you're more annoyed. Another characters are even worse. One character is muscular and flirts with Miss Lady, but is scared of Dante.
C'mon! Some quests was good, but it didn't change my opinion about it. And that moment when Dante dies. But, why? He is strong and knows everything about demons, so why did he died?
What a shame. He was good character, the best one from that anime.

In a nutshell Devil May Cry isn't anime for people, who played video games from that serie. Simply they will get dissapointed.
From the other hand I can recommend it for fans of horror or demons. It would be better, if creators could make more based on video games.

Concept

I've actually played and beaten the games of Devil May Cry 1-4. Based on what I could peice together, this is actually the sequel to Devil May Cry 3 and maybe the prequel to Devil May Cry 4. Out of all the Devil May Cry chapters, the anime really defines Dante's character in his daily life, not just as a devil hunter, but as a person. Yes he may be the world's biggest SLOB, and maybe the biggest ASSHOLE, but he never fails to dissapoint. You also see the kind side of him in a few episodes. Now THAT, is something the full demons lack!

Devil May Cry

Well, what can I say? Seeing an anime being adapted from one of my favourite game franchises? It's gotta be non-stop action, blood and gore and have a pretty sweet stroy. Right? Wrong.

I can't say anything on the story after dropping it after two episodes, but come on! Dante the baby sitting demon killer? That does NOT have a ring to it. This anime could have a good story but I refuse to give it a chance and that one reason is.....

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO DANTE?

Wow, I actually hate Dante in this anime. He is just so cheesey and not in a funny way. The charecter seems like a PG versiion of our resident Demon Killer! The addition of Patty, or whatever her name is doesn't help the anime what so ever. I was expecting dark story, non-stop action and violence and Virgil. I mean the anime could still have a deep dark story and Virgil, but from these boring and very predicatble episodes, with a very annoying and unlikeable Dante, I refuse to give this series anymore of time.

Maybe I'll come home drunk one night and decide to finish it, until then.....

JUST WOW.

Story: Most of the anime isn't connected, it works as stand alone episodes, a sort of monster-of-the-week feel to it. It's barely related to the video game series, mostly only the characters and the setting

Animation: Pretty smooth, follows the style of the game aka fast moves very stylized visuals and effects.

Sound: What you'd expect, some guitars and the occational sick lick

Characters: Possibly the best part of the series. Having played all games (1-4 at this point in time) I am familiar with the characters so it is nice to see them all again. Most aren't around for that long. It's primarily Dante and this annoy new little girl who's quite the blemish on the series.

Overall: Only watch it if you're a big fan of the series, a BIG fan. The story structure doesn't have much going for it, the stand alone episodes work against it (as they usually do) This anime is lacking purpose and real interest.

Story:

Well I Haven't played the video games but from what wikipedia told me this one fits in between Devil may Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 4. So if you haven't actually played the games, like i haven't, you will find yourself initially more confused than an old person at a Snoop Dogg concert.

The story goes something like this...there is this guy who is half devil/ half human named Dante  who hunts devils with his flashy pistols and his really big sword. Each episode takes you on his latest devil hunting adventure where you will meet a few new characters and a new ugly devil. On the whole however there is one big plot where a lowlife devil wanting to be powerful is hellbent on transforming into a massive devil which will rain death and destruction down on mankind- So the usual I guess.

Oh thrown into this mixing bowl of fun is a girl who Dante saves in the first episode who doesn't really do anything but complain then aid in raining down destruction on humanity and 2 super fighting chicks who are in a love/ hate relationship with Dante.

Animation:

IMO the animation is the best part of Devil May Cry, the characters are beautifully drawn an each fight scene perfectly depicts each bullethole through the skull of some baddy. Use of colours is glorious with each new place Dante visiting having a gernerally dark auro coming from it.

Sound:

Voice acting= fine.

Beginning and ending themes are left to be desired. They weren't bad they were just yeah.........

Characters:

OVerall OK design, usual blend of dashing hero's and heroines, each with their own unique fighting styles and quirky habits or likes. Various minor characters are thrown i each episode. Some are great, some are annoying, some you just want to die.

Speaking of dying, the devil's do alot of this. If there is a hell I'm not scared of it if it's only these things crawling around in it. All the devils in the series end up fodder for Dante and his chums and your left wondering whether any fo the devils will actually be able to inflict some damage

Overall:

Eh....well....I give it a 5/10. it delivers nothing new and overdoes alot of cliches. It's charcters have immunity to death and theres no emotional attachment to the anime at all. Still it provides a good chunk of action and watching things blow apart or get cut to bits is kinda fun. Watch it if your bored and feel like watching stuff get killed , otherwise look for something better.
