Stroy revolves around a young 14 year student who is accused of being the cause of massacre of his whole class.

The story makes no sense as the innocence could have been easily proven. On top of that the student acts real tough guy at the prison saving his friends on multiple occassions for no apparant reason. A little back story could have helped but instead there are only good memories and visions of his dead pals to ignite him

The series is targeted on young teens who enjoy gore, action, mystery, some ecchi and some ass kicking fight scenes.

An anime worth giving a try but not to expect much from the series.

warning review may contain cursing or swearing

The good

For the most part it has a fairly good premise and decent character development from standard kid who saw his friends murdered to fairly bitchy boy who kinda wants a lot of people dead you have the brother who thinks his sister is in prison for a crime he commited and then to wrap it all off a childhood friend who just so happens to be the reason his lifes living hell.

the bad

Some of the plot is really predictable and some side characters are just way more awesome than the main characters then finally,

warning the next passage contains a few spoilers

it doesn't end so ganta becomes some kind of human hunting rifle has the chance to just walk out and then decides its better to stay, yes I understand that they had those collars but as seen before they can be broken by hammers meat-grinders and practically every other weapon and what happened to everyone else it has no end so until a season 2 is even announced im deeply disappointed with the way they ended the story.

A story of a kid that gets framed, gets put in an amusement park jail where the prisoners have to fight for food tickets. Every few days they have to eat something called candy that prevents them from being poisoned due to the neck collar.

On top of that, they all get some special ability and get put up against each other where the strongest survive.

The concept is like the old movie called Death Race 2000...

The whole thing I just typed out just gets thrown out of the window halfway through the show. The amusement park theme just gets replaced with an underground shitty cafe while the prisoners combine forces to escape jail.

You get introduced to characters that just vanish, everybody stops eating candy and the main character shouldn't actually survive longer than an episode.

It is all so poorly put together.

The best example of how poorly written it is is when the white haired girl, who is one of the main characters, holds a grudge against the dude that's trying to rescue her during a time in the show where a group of guards are trying to gang-rape her.

STORY:

Welcome to deadman wonderland, if the title wasnt a big enough clue the one thing you can expect from this anime is volence, and a lot of it. After he was framed for the slaughtering of his entire class our unlucky protagonist Ganta Igarashi is sent to Deadman wonderland, a correctional facility which employs more unconventially methods of discipline all while trying to entertain the geneneral population. The plot to deadman wonderland is fresh and original but most importantly is exciting from the get go, the story constantly evolves to secure your interest throughout the 12 episodes.

ANIMATION:

The show was produced by Manglobe a name which fans of Ergo Proxy may be familiar with. The animation was consistantly great, especially during the action scenes located in the latter half of the show.

SOUND:

Prehaps im being a bit harsh with the score for this one but the problem i have with the sound mainly lies within the OST. Nothing in the ost really stood out to me it was just there thats not to say it didnt do its job it fitted the anime nicely but i couldnt help but feel it needed something more. The Dub for the show is good sometimes Ganta's voice becomes annoying but on the whole it does the show justice. The Opening needs to be mentioned, FADE's One Reason is one of the greatest openings (in my opinion) to grace anime, its sung in english but it fits the show to a tee and is a brilliant stand alone song.

CHARACTERS:

Ganta is nothing of a brilliant character himself but at the same time isnt terrible, he can be a bit whiney and annoying but he's no Shinji Ikari so hes tolerable. Shiro is the flagship character for Deadman Wonderland with her interesting everchanging personality and interesting choice of clothing her character is bt far the most interesting of the bunch, not to say the rest are bland.

OVERALL:

Definitely worth the watch. If your a fan of voilent and gory anime look no further, even those less familiar with this type of show are bound to find some solice in the kickass action scenes this show boasts.

Some Spoilers Ensue:

WHY WHY WHY did they cancel this?! Boooo. How can you not feel disappointed in the finale? It set it up to keep going and there's so much left of the manga...alas...we have to rate what's there. For a first season, it was epic. I loved that it was hyperviolent and stylized. Every episode felt suspenseful and exhilirating. The story was interesting from jump and Wonderland itself was worth exploring.

Animation: As I stated, this anime is hyperstylized and very gorey. That is definitely a good thing. Watch it unedited if you can because it is gorgeous. The Brances Of Sin are all unique to their person and all are really cool to see in action. The second episode in particular with the death games was so cool to watch. If they ever did bring this show back for a second season, they should do more of that. The characters are drawn very well too.

Sound: The music was pretty great in this ones. The OST was well done and I adore the opening theme. I didn't so much like the ending theme though. It was pretty generic and didn't fit the show as well as I would have likedI watched this in English for my first time because I heard it was chalk full of foul language...it was. I was actually laughing at most of the dialogue. Not that it was bad, but the swearing was weird. The one liners though...it was worth it for them. Especially Minatsuki...she has one line when she is fighting Ganta...it's awesome. The voice actors were all pretty good. I really liked Senji and Nagi. Ganta's was alright but he was really whiney and I hate that.

Which brings me to the characters: Crow, Mockingbird, and Shiro were my favorites for sure, especially Crow. He's probably the most interesting character. I really liked all of the characters actually. There were no bad ones. I don't usually like when the protagonist is a crybaby so Ganta was probably one of my least favorites...that's not to say I DIDN'T like him. It would be awesome to go deeper into all of the other characters' back stories.

Overall, it's 12 episodes long and is super addicting. Definitely worth the watch, but just know, it feels unfinished because it is. I'm reading the manga now so expect a full review of that soon.
