Sports anime really lets viewers experience the thrill and exhilaration of sports. As a sports anime enthusiast, Dance Dance Danseur was a special treat.

  • I enjoy watching characters strive hard to achieve their dreams.
  • I also enjoy watching characters gain recognition and acknowledgement from their peers.

Unlike a traditional ballet show, Dance Dance Danseur does not focus on the frilly tutus and ballerinas. Although ballet is often seen as a feminine sport where females showcase their gracefulness, and flexibility on stage...the anime Dance Dance Danseur focuses on the male ballerinas. MAPPA did an amazing job with the animation for the anime. The dance movements look so flexible, and graceful like a majestic swan. The animation was really solid.

Let's start with the main character: Junpei Murao. Junpei Murao reminds me of a country boy with his unrefineness, and his lack of politeness and mannerisms. He is frank and straightforward. He can also be very extraverted and social. One day, Junpei was drifting to sleep during a ballet performance. But then a male ballet dancer appeared on stage, Junpei was impressed by his visual performance. Junpei began secretly practicing ballet but he hides his secret passion from his school mates. He is approached by Miyako Godai who discovers Junpei's devotion to ballet. Junpei decides to study ballet while sacrificing time to hang out with his school mates and friends. Junpei is a very hard working dancer. His shoes are all torn down signifying his great persistence, and hard work.

Junpei meets Ruou Mori (Miyako's cousin) at the ballet studio. Ruou is a very introverted and withdrawn kid. He struggles to fit in at school. He is constantly bullied and made fun of by his peers. But Ruou is also a very gifted and talented ballet dancer. If there is one thing I can change about the anime, I wish Ruou had the strength to fix his shortcomings, and get along with his classmates.

Despite only training for 3 months, Junpei gains a major role in the ballet recital. He decides to change the choreography to make it more interesting. After this incident, Junpei tries desperately to gain Oikawa's recognition. Although Junpei is not the typical image of a male ballerina, Oikawa eventually respects Junpei's talent.
