Hi Score Girl

Hi Score Girl

During the heyday of the 2D fighting game boom in 1991, sixth-grader Haruo spends practically his entire day at an arcade in the seedy part of town, oblivious to the world around him. However, one day at his usual arcade, he encounters Akira, his female classmate with good grades and money. She may look out of place at the arcade, but she is actually a top-class gamer. Akira completely outmatches Haruo in one Street Fighter II round after another, and their relationship develops from this unlikely encounter.

The story telling is done in a similar style where there is a lowkey love triangle going on while making references to popular products that we grew up with which really gives both shows quite a nostalgic feeling.

Although Dagashi Kashi feels more like a commercial for candy, Hi Score Girl uses is to indicate how much time has passed.

The love triangles feel the same too where the boy doesn't really understand how to act around the girls, one of the girls is considered an equal and thesecond girl is somebody who picks things up quick but doesn't really know how to approach the boy.

zionn zionn says...

similar writting styles between both animes with the MC being oblivious.

while being quite low key and quiet story was definently enjoyable.

MistLiigh MistLiigh says...

These series follow a very similar formula: girl appears before MC who's like no one he's ever met, there's a love triangle, and they go through a variety of real-life products that they share a passion for. In Hi-Score Girl, it's video games (mostly fighting games), and in Dagashi Kashi, it's Japanese candy.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma

That's why, when his dad suddenly announces that he's shutting the restaurant down and sending Souma to cooking school, Souma is shocked. However, Tohtsuki Academy is no ordinary cooking school. This elite institution is filled with culinary giants like Erina "God Tongue" Nakiri, who does her best to keep a lowly short-order like Souma from even making it inside the door. However, if the snobs can dish it out, Souma can serve it up, and when he learns that only a handful of the students manage to graduate every year, he swears that the only way he'll leave is as number one!

Both have the same theme based on foof, except the concept of Food Wars was more like "MasterChef" while DK is more like "Bizzar Food."

Both anime are about food, sure. But both anime are really about young men trying to surpass their fathers in the food industry. Both sets of father-sons own small food shops, but the fathers are famous beyond the small world of the son. Both anime are going to make you hungry, but for different types of food. And since the humor can be pretty similar, you might laugh at both. Try these two together!

Both of these anime about the daily lives of two people that live in Japanese food shops. Tamako lives in her father's mochi shop and helps him make the mochi, while Kokonutsu lives in his father's dagashi shop and his father is trying to get him to take over. Both anime give a little knowledge to the viewer about their respective foods. So, foodies, you'll love these two anime!

JK Meshi!

JK Meshi!

In Japanese, “JK” is an abbreviation for “joshi kousei”, or high school girl, and “meshi” means “cooked rice” or “meal”, so it is only suitable that the anime focuses on 3 high school girls, Reina, Ryouka, and Ruriko, who have mastered the art of cooking simple, B-class dishes called JK meshi.

Both are light-hearted, very casual, about food, have a hint of romance, and absolutely rocking OSTs. The art is a bit looser in Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan but it's still fun and uplifting.
