WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!

I was umming and ahhing about watching this because I wasn't sure about the romance element but I happened upon a review which made me change my mind.

I played the game this anime is based on and the anime is vastly preferrable. I didn't even make it through one playthrough of the game before I was skipping all the scenes because the characters just talk talk talk talk talk talk talk and it's exhausting. The anime condensces it all nicely, although, of course, things don't happen exactly the same as they did in the game which is fine.

While the show is also marked as reverse harem it's also really not. While in the game you can follow a route to end up with Helsing, Frankenstein, Saint-Germain or Impey the happiness of those endings is debatable and the whole way through, even when on a specific character's route, the game still implies that Lupin is really the one to be with, which is why you have to clear the other 4 routes before you can even access the "true" route with Lupin (which is also why even though I didn't want to, I still skipped through most of Lupin's route cause even though I wanted Lupin and Cardia together, by the time I got there I was just thinking "whatever, just give me my trophy already").

Anyway, the anime focuses primarily on Cardia's romantic relationship with Lupin, and while the others are shown to feel varying degrees of love for her (particularly Impey) it's never really even hinted that Cardia is interested in any sort of romantic relationship with anyone except Lupin.

So the spoileriest part: Who ends up with who?

This is always what I want to know when looking at anything labeled "romance" and it's hard to find a review or whatever that tells me. So:

Yes there's a happy ending where Lupin and Cardia end up together and married (which I wanted but Wikipedia wouldn't divulge so I wasn't sure whether I should watch) and the romance between them is pretty damn awesome for a romance junkie like me.

Code: Realize is an amazing otome game with a great story, characters, soundtrack, and voice acting. The anime is great in everything that takes from the source, but what is original... not so much.

The story adds a lot of new unnecessary content towards the end of the anime, and a lot of it doesn't make much sense. Important character information on characters such as Van Helsing and Impey is also left out since they only animated the true route - Lupin's. This is where they should have changed content.

Overall, I did enjoy the Code: Realize anime quite a bit, though, as I do already love the characters and the soundtrack and voices are still great. Whether or not you played and enjoyed the visual novel may have a huge effect on whether or not you will enjoy it, but I do recommend checking out at least a few episodes.

Ok lets get this over with. First of all there will be spoilers so SPOILER ALERT PEOPLE! at first when i saw this show, i was honestly excited to see it come out, BUT then when i watched through the whole show i was not all that happy and stuff or sad, because usually im sad or happy when an anime i watch finishes either because i liked the show and was happy with the story or sad because i just finished an anime and have nothing to watch, but when this show ended i honestly was debating what i felt because i felt nothing for this show at the end. If you like reverse harems this show ehh well it is but, its not really all that much like others. The story mainly focuses on Cardia and Lupin, so its not your typical Reverse harem where everyone gets lots of character development throughout different episodes. Another thing that bothered me was the way the two were in love, its great they (SPOILER IN CASE YOU HAVENT WATCHED AND ARE STILL HERE WHICH I DONT KNOW WHY) got married and all but on the earlier episodes Lupin said he liked her but he honestly didnt really show it and nor did Cardia. Normally when you like someone heres what you do: show signs of jealousy when their with someone else, blush when they smile at you say something nice to you etc. While lupin sometimes said that to her and wanted tp see her or whatever i wasnt really feeling like they liked each other, well maybe i was a little but at the same time i wasn't idk maybe its just me but i sorta felt the two of them were pretty rushed and thats one reason why this is different from other harems, at first i felt like this was going to be a LEGIT harem that sorta slipped away as soon i began watching later episodes. Another that really bothered me was the fact that it looked like there was really going to be some epic moments or cool and awesome, but unfortunately they all just when away from this when it looked like they could have done something cool. Heres some highlights of the show

Animation looked ok i liked it sometimes, but most of the time i didnt because it looked pretty different for an anime, i do like unique things though of course, but this was like some game art or whatever i know this an otome game, but the art looked really umm well too gameish and not anime for me.

Sound for me though was top notch. The voices werent too slow, fast, low or too loud. I thought that was great because i have watched anime where there voicing sync was terrible but this was great honestly.

As for the characters i didnt really feel much character development except for dracula and cardia dracula changed  just a little bit throughout the show he was very set on revenge for his family and hated van for killing them, but as the show went on he wasnt really interested in killing van anymore and was actually beginning to accept him. Cardias characters liked because she was kinda dumb at first which was totally understandable, unlike some other female mcs who are just totally dumb without reason, however cardia was locked away in some dark mansion for a long time and was told she was a monster by others, and even though she wasnt on that mansion all her life when she wasnt in there she didnt really learn about other stuff i dont think, so i get why shes dumb, but at the same time she changes throughout the show, she also becomes reliable and can fight so her character development was cool i guess since she wasnt dumb the enitre show but the other characters showed liked zero sign of change i wouldnt call lupin liking cardia change because he was still the same even when he did like her. As for the other characters they change not one bit.

Overall i feel like this show was pretty OK or meh i feel like it couldve been better if they just had more character development, storyline, action and detail, if they did that it probably would have been a better show. Some ppl may like i dont know.

This will be the first review I have ever written regarding an anime. I feel compelled to write this because of how upset I geniunely am with how this anime ended. I will not go into detail on the story, the effects, and whatever else you, as a reader, may be looking for. Look at this solely as a rant about the characters and lack of character development especially dealing with the Lupin - the guy the MC (and us as an audience) is supposed to fall in love with.

Even though I stated that I will not go into detail in regards to the story, I want to caution any of you reading with a SPOILER ALERT. Again, this is a rant that I feel I must get off my chest, because there was so much lost potential here.

Let's begin. The anime itself is an interesting concept. The most I'll say about the story is that it is unique, but it does get a bit muddy throughout, and it is easy to get confused once past the 5th-6th episode. This is not where my rant lies. The anime introduces you to some amazing, unique, and rather cute characters. Each of them have their own charm and it is hard not to fall in love with a good handful. I know, this isn't sounding like much of a rant - bare with me. I have to say that I really appreciated the characters as a whole and I enjoyed watching them. I wanted more than what was given because they were just that interesting. This all does NOT apply to the main love interest. This is where my rant begins. The writers of Code: Realize did a decent job on characters such as Van and Saint (my two favorites, honestly) who are not meant to have romantic feelings for Cardia. They were cool, exciting, mysterious, etc. all what you would expect your MC to fall in love with! Well written characters that deserve to be seen as potential love partners. However, as a watcher, it's easy to feel cheated in a way because the MC is forced to fall for the most boring out of all the side characters you wish were suitors BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT BASED ON HOW WELL THEY WERE WRITTEN. Honestly, it wouldn't be an issue for me that the main suitor was boring and lackluster if the side characters were the same. It's very clear, though, that more effort was put into Saint (who is barely in the anime compared to Van and the others) than the one who ultimately ends up with Cardia. I was so so so bored with Lumpin. I found myself skipping through majority of his dialogue. When it came down to his backstory, I couldn't have cared less. How could I? I wanted to know more about the other characters. I wanted more backstory on them. I wanted Cardia (the MC) to fall in love with someone with substance. Sadly, that wasn't Lumpin.  Was this done on purpose? I don't know. I hated the fact that Cardia ended up with Lumpin SO MUCH that I literally bought the light novel. Yes. I bought it so I could choose a better ending that I feel the MC deserved, and that I, as a watcher, desrved. Maybe that was their goal all along. If so, clever! They got what they wanted out of me. I'm not even mad.

I hope you enjoyed my "review" if it can even be called that. Ask any questions regarding this anime or any other that I have watched. I'll be glad to answer them. Also, watch Violet Evergarden. If you do, have some tissues.

Thank you.
