As someone in the medical field who's had to take several biology and anatomy classes, this anime is very accurate! What was even more interesting was how everything was explained to make it simple and understandable. I also loved how they drew the viruses and bacteria based on their names and how they actually look. Not only was it enjoyable to watch because of its accuracy, but it was also a very funny anime! The characters were funny and very interesting because they had personalities based on what they do in the body. I would suggest this anime to everyone, especially to those interested in anatomy and healthcare.

On one hand you want to give a realistic impression on how the body works. On the other hand you want to make it so people want to watch it.

There's **** trees growing all over the place and giant japanese demon statues in the heart. If you are bothered by this, then this is not the show for you.

As for actual technical things that bothered me were the two main characters: neutrophil and red blood cell. Neutrophil shouldn't have been given a knife; neutrophils are bombs that completely obliterate everything in the area (including themselves and healthy cells) with H2O2/hydrogen peroxide. They should have been given automatic rifles or actual bombs. Red blood cells carry not just gasses or nutrients, they carry both at the same time. Regularly we see rbc's carrying one or the other in this show, which makes absolutely no sense. In the show, each rbc has a specific destination it needs to go to, while in the body rbc's just go wherever the plasma current takes them. All cells need nutrients/oxygen all the time, one rbc doesn't just stop off at one specific cell "once per day" like in the show. It seemed like the ciruclatory system was complete nonsense. Like rbc's were just wandering around randomly all over the body, which of course is the juxt of our main characters problems in the show. It would have made more sense to have freeways instead of an open city. I couldn't tell how time was passing in the human body, like those rbc's were just leisurely walking the street when in reality they would be going 1m/s. For something that small, that's pretty bloody fast, it seemed to take our main character 20 minutes! I could go on with just really weird stuff that went on in this show.

The story and characters were great. I love how we all have little Jojo's in our bodies beating up germs. The ridiculousness of everything amused me greatly. The last two episodes of season 1 (now there is an OVA episode 14), were just so great that my minor critiques just melted away like snow. Like they had done so much characterization that at that point I cared about these characters, that I was all kinds of feels. Usually with shows that are only 12 episodes, it's impossible to build up your characters so well, but this show pulled it off. I wish that we had gotten some characterization for the most important character in the show - the person that we've been inside this whole time. I guess they wanted to make the show so that we could imagine these guys inside any of us, but every episode comments about all the terrible things happening to this poor guy. Obviously the viewers want to know !

I actually wish this show went a little bit slower with the explanations. I can read Tatami Galaxy easily but this show I near had to pause every time text came up. And then all the germ blood. Like I wish that I could show this to children as a learning tool, but it's just too fast and violent.

TL: DR

A fantastic short anime series at 13 episodes about the world that Cells live in and how their dedication to doing hard work keeps us in tip-top shape. Join in on the short adventures of a Red Blood Cell as she finds herself making friends with helpful immunity cells and learns about how the work that she does keeps everyone moving!

Personal: I highly recommend this Anime for something simple and fun to watch and eagerly await season 2, which has been announced to be in production.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Long Version:

An enjoyable and comedic way to see how the world works! Cells at work take us on a kind of slice of lifestyle tour of the human body. We understand how, personified as humans, the cells in our bodies work diligently to keep there world ready and working! Meanwhile, our immune system works hard to help protect us from pathogens of many kinds.

I would highly recommend this as a fun and casual way of enjoying an unorthodox slice of life anime, even if your not into that kind of story like I am! If you're watching this to get a good grade in your homework, I’d say keep studying but use this as a fun way to relax and touch on the basics while you have a brain snack. It’s all useful information and nothing that can’t be corrected or elaborated on with a quick wiki search.

And with only 13 episodes in the first season, how could this not be on your hit list? Come along for the ride as we see how our bodies fight every day for us and keep us working hard!

I loves this, I'm personally a very squeamish person, so it's hard for me to stay in class and learn about blood and stuff. This anime really helped. I actually made it easy. I learned too, but too bad I didn't know about this in biology. Not only educational, but it's a good anime, it's got both. If you have a test or you don't understand what you're learning about the circulatory system. Give this a try. It also talks about some diseases, viruses, and cancer cells and how they get taken care of.

Pleasantly surprised by how good this anime was. It is essentially a much better version of the movie: “Osmosis Jones.”

***Full disclosure, I did read the manga, but I’m basing this review on just the anime***

The characters play off of each other well and have their quirks that make you laugh and keep watching. The plot is episodical, which I normally don’t like, but it is interesting, fun, and occasionally action-packed. Enough to keep you watching.

There are a few overarching themes that come back in the following “season.”

The action is graphic but funny. It actually reminds me of the amount/level of action and humor in the anime: Spy x Family.

It did become a little repetitive at some points: introducing a character early on who will save the day against a new threat. However, that didn’t spoil it for me.

There were some unrealistic occurrences, like the leeway of certain cells and the abnormal flow of cells, but it was part of the fantasy aspect of it.

Educational- as far as the definitions. Unique and very thematic. A solid 8/10.
