Tetsuro was orphaned at a young age when his mother was killed by Count Mecha. Tetsuro soon finds a shortcut towards his desires when he meets the enchanting Maetel while running from the police. Tetsuro finds himself drawn towards this woman that eerily resembles his mother, especially when she offers to take him on the Galaxy Express 999 with her. So begins Tetsuro's intergalactic journey to fulfill his wishes, whatever those wishes may be in the end.

Her grandfather's prominent position and the affection of the scientist Daedalus have left her more free will than is normally allowed, but Re-l has started to question the sanctity of the city and the citizens' perfect way of life. With mysterious beings known as proxies causing havoc and a man named Vincent causing great influence on her life, Re-l must travel outside of the city to find the answers she seeks and discover the mystery behind "the awakening".

What the earthlings do not realize, however, is that they are soon to encounter the seventh: the Buff Clan, humans from a world other than Earth who have come seeking a legendary power source known as the Ide. Fortuitously, just as first contact with the Buff Clan turns violent, the earthlings discover that the mechanisms of the Sixth Civilization can combine to create a giant mecha called Ideon powerful enough to protect them. But is Ideon in fact the power source of legend, and what is the extent of its might? The earthlings can only hope to discover the answer before it is too late.

Here the Empire has built the nigh-impregnable Iserlohn Fortress, whose deadly weaponry has thwarted repeated efforts by the Alliance to capture her. Phezzan, a neutral mercantile state, controls the other corridor.
