Ascendance of a Bookworm

Ascendance of a Bookworm

Avid bookworm and college student Motosu Urano ends up dying in an unforeseen accident. This came right after the news that she would finally be able to work as a librarian like she had always dreamed of. When she regained consciousness, she was reborn as Myne, the daughter of a poor soldier. She was in the town of Ehrenfest, which had a harsh class system. But as long as she had books, she didn't really need anything else. However, books were scarce and belonged only to the nobles. But that doesn't stop her, so she makes a decision... "If there aren't any books, I'll just create some."

OtakuHimeSama OtakuHimeSama says...

Both anime have a small child as the main character after being reincarnated from a previous life. They both have a focus on family life and fulfilling work, with a focus on creativity and discovery. If you are looking for a light-hearted slice of life isekai you can't go wrong with either one of this anime.

stardrop stardrop says...

Very similar plots. Both isekai, MC reincarnated into a kid, and they run businesses. Bookworm is a tad more interesting because there's a mystery to solve from the beginning, and Grace is just one thing happening then the next.

Halex Halex says...

Both are very similar in style & concept, if you like one then you'll probably like the other one, however, Ascendance of a Bookworm is much better as it also has some mystery elements, the way they go about things is much smarter, while By the Grace of the Gods uses Deus Ex Machina to solve its problems, and there is way less conflict. So By the Grace of the Gods it's mostly about the slice-of-life than anything else with an overpowered character. It's not a failure though, but it will mostly appeal to people who like this type of concept and the slice-of-life.

ChrisCarlo ChrisCarlo says...

I enjoy the trope of being reincarnated into a magical land, so if that's what your after this seems like a good fit

PURPLEHANDGANG PURPLEHANDGANG says...

Both of those have different concepts but almost similar in storytelling, screenplay, world's system and animation. those both anime mainly focus on him/her survival in the new world from the realistic aspect, those anime had only lot of conversation and making economical moves scene so don't expect neither fight or competition event.

Blackdragonsrose Blackdragonsrose says...

Both being about a adult reincarnating as a child they hold many similaritys. Both also center around how the MC works in order to servive this new life, using knowledge from their past to become reputable. Both also originaly starting as what would be lower in the natural higher archy in that world (commoners basicly) both are also extreamy mellow shows great for family or young veiwing as they do not include mature aspects that are unsutable for young children.

twynde twynde says...

Both get reborn as children. Both learn and grow in their new world and learn to see this new world as home. It takes the MC longer in Ascendance but They both manage it. They also use their skills and knowledge from their past lives to create new things and make life better for themselves and others. Both are super wholesome. <3

Leahchu Leahchu says...

Both anime focus on an adult reincarnating into the body of a young child. Both adults had died from overwork, which caused a god to take pity on them and give them the chance at a calmer second life. Each show focuses on how these reincarnated characters mesh themselves into their new worlds and the bumps along the road. Ascendance has a mystery aspect, while Grace of the Gods is more slice of life/iyashikei.

LadyPsychic LadyPsychic says...

Both anime are mostly light-hearted isekai series.  The MCs from both series were reincarnated into a fantasy world in the form of young children and gradually improve their lives over the course of thier respective series.  Both series also have a similar vibe to them.  The protagonist of By the Grace of the Gods is a bit over-powered and relies on his magic and slime taming abilities, while the protagonist of Ascendance of a Bookworm has to rely on her knowledge that she retained from her previous life.  That said, I still think that if you like one you might like the other.

queenitakiss queenitakiss says...

the vibe is similar and it's all so cute

Owned0 Owned0 says...

They really do have simmilar styles, I reallly enjoyed both of the animes since I'm more into calming ones. I can watch battle, but too much gives me a headache (sometimes literally, somtimes not) and I get tired of watching it quicker.

Zenoqi Zenoqi says...

Both are isekai on the more relaxed side. While the mc of bookworm likes to read anything, the mc in by the grace would read anything about slimes. And plus who wouldnt want to look at cute slimes and relax around.

skyluvh8 skyluvh8 says...

Both involve earnest adults reborn as children in another world. They both follow the path that makes them happy. Very wholesome.

Beth0410 Beth0410 says...

Both involve them reincarnated from another life with their memories from previous life. They have to learn more about the new world they live in now and are very creative when it comes to things they want and/or helping others.

hololark hololark says...

They're both stupid.

The plots are like "Oh no! we have a problem!" and then theres a scene where the main character goes off on their own for 5-10 mins and comes back "Look at this very specific power that I just discovered I could do, that solves this exact issue, that no one else can do because I'm super special and everyone else is a sheep!" then rinse and repeat. If you liked the slime anime, you'll probably like these as well. The plots and characters are interchangeable. I wasn't going to roast them like this because there is some draw in watching a plotless show after a hellish week. So it's not like they don't have their place. However, they're both stupid.

donutboy13 donutboy13 says...

its very simmilair but also slightly diffrent one is with more class struggle, bussiness and corruption and the other is with more magic adventuring and slimes

While both of these shows are not finished yet I believe that they are very similar.

Both are isekai anime in which the main character is reincarnated or put in another world in a favourable position.

Magic, Monsters, the whole enchilada.

Aalsiii Aalsiii says...

Both are slow life Isekai with its own fun plot. Both MCs are overpowered but they dont overdo it and use it in a fun and creative way and specially both do not focus on typical plots of harem and other similar traits and conveys its own unique plot.

ClairIsHere4Manga ClairIsHere4Manga says...

Kuma Kuma bear is a sweet and happy-go-lucky reincarnation manga, and if you have read it and liked it, then you'll also enjoy By the Grace of the Gods.

It's a tad different, but similar concepts.

Both are enjoyable mangas containing an object the main lead fawns over (bears and slimes; though she really has no choice with the bears, she still has it so it counts!)

These mangas are sweet, slice of life, reads that i recommend earnestly!

alp2va alp2va says...

Both shows are a slice-of-life isekai with little conflict and cute characters. Both main characters are also overpowered, though Kuma leans more into that aspect than Grace of Gods. Kuma also leans more comedic whereas Grace of Gods is more about the lifestyle of this new land.

StellaeSamos StellaeSamos says...

Both are isekai with lovable overpoered characters who mainly hang out with the locals and go on occasional adventures and found businesses and generally are very fluffy.

MisterPhantomAgent MisterPhantomAgent says...

Similar things, they have connections with gods, transferred to an isekai, and want to stay undercover. Nothing more.

Shortylynnchaos Shortylynnchaos says...

Legit when telling a friend about Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, I mentioned it had the same energy as this anime, By The Grace Of The Gods, as it has the same feel, no real danger, overpowered protagonist but not boring. Some adventure but also feeling of accomplishment.

hajimenagumo12 hajimenagumo12 says...

the protagonists are both summoned to another world and each has a knack for their certain animal/monster, for ryoma it is slimes, and for yuna it is bears

cate22lol cate22lol says...

they are both just so wholesome shows without the usual isekai sexualisation you get me haha

StellaeSamos StellaeSamos says...

Both focus heavily on slimes. Although That Time I Got... it about an mc who is a slime and By the Grace... is more about different types of slimes, their characteristics, and a lovable character who is obsessed with them. Both of the mc's are overpowered, a little clueless, but super smart annd capable. Also, their both isekai that are on the lighter side.

Fluffs Fluffs says...

Both of these have a cute slice-of-life approach to everyday situations. Protagonists are similar, both get a second chance at life and try to make it as wholesome as possible, with the supporting characters always being there for them.

Also, both have slimes

thekillergoose thekillergoose says...

they are similar in the sense that its about someone enjoying life in a new fantasy world although slime is more about politics and by the grace of the gods is more about someone enjoying life in a world after being abused

AJH1022 AJH1022 says...

  • both have the main charcter coming from a different world.
  • most of all the way that the story progresses is very similar in ways (the transistion between episodes and events).

The main characters both get sent to a different world. Though they are different species their personalities are very similar. Furthermore, they are both very strong but remain kind.

quickroom quickroom says...

they both involve opm characters and slimes. bruh dont have enough characters to post this

FrostedCinnamon FrostedCinnamon says...

Slimes, isekai, and OP main characters. By the Grace of the Gods features much less violence and conflict. Both are worthwhile watches.

emmbun emmbun says...

Both main characters have been reincarnated around the same age. Each has to do if slimes, and friends.

Though, By the Grace of the Gods is more of a calm, slice of life, with nothing too extreme happening ( like war or fights ). Just because nothing big happens doesn't mean it's great to watch :).

'That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime' is a little different, the main character after getting reincarnated becomes a genderless being ( he prefers to use he/him from his old life ) that can 'eat' things. This anime is way more violate than 'By the Grace of the Gods' with things like fights, wars, killing/death, and the main character runs a society!

either one you decide to watch, they're both great! if you like manhwa ( Korean manga ) then you would most likely like these too animes! I personally like them both very well so I can't say which I prefer more :)

Asyeurin Asyeurin says...

OP reincarnators, OP slimes, and dazzling fantasy isekais.

Tensei is more about monster society, leadership, nation building and wars/battles, while Kami-tachi is focused on humans, fantasy research, self development and self acceptance through the love of others (although that part is developed more later in the series).

LadyPsychic LadyPsychic says...

Both are mostly light-hearted isekai anime series that involve slimes.  In That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the main character is a slime, while in By the Grace of the Gods the main characters raises slimes.  The protagonists of both series are a bit OP.  Both are enjoyable series, and if you like one then you'll probably like the other.

Reincarnation show where the main character starts as a child but discovers he has magic powers that are much stronger than the rest of the world. Grace of God seems to be lighter and much less action-heavy than Wise Man's Grandchild

Reasons you might like In Another World With My Smartphone...

MisterPhantomAgent MisterPhantomAgent says...

The reason I recommend this is because of the many similarities. First of all, a god on the back, as well as the OP characteristics and the modern knowledge. Both protagonists tend to have control of all elements as well as both protagonists getting reincarnated into the new isekai with modern knowledge.

Spoilers ahead.

Both protagonists also seem to have an accidental way of death. They seem to reincarnate full of luck and are both overpowered, as a beast tamer and a magician. They also tamed animals which have never been tamed before, such as a big slime in By the Grace of the Gods' case, and legendary creatures, in In Another World with my Smartphone's case.

I put this recommendation up as both animes are quite similar (in amounts of cringe and so), but no one seemed to make a move. Not that I expect to, but it is really similar.

Just from the first episode, there is already a lot of things in common between the two animes. mainly theM being an Isakei and the gods giving some sort of minor ability after death.

Littlesilverwolf Littlesilverwolf says...

Both are isekais where the lead leads a life of a normal overworked person in japan and dies only to be isekaied into a fantasy world where they can live out their peaceful lives revolving aroung cute animals/slime

Beth0410 Beth0410 says...

Both are slow life isekai with the main characters unexpectedly being able to 'tame' or befriend unexpected monsters/animals.

if you're seeking an anime where the main character already knows what to expect of them and then must face taming things such as monsters and watching the evolution of their future into their new world/life then look no further than these two as their adventures bring about interactions with trying to make a change for the better in their new life with the knowledge they have.

JordanJas JordanJas says...

Both of these shows focus on people who die of overwork and are reincarnated into the body of a child. These children still remember their past lives (or bits of it) and use it when they are dealing with others in the new world. They are tamers and seem to tame nearly every monster they come across and make them their friend, and are able to use those friendships to help them later on.
