If you're looking for anime similar to Bounty Dog, you might like these titles.
Set in the 21st century on a recently terraformed Venus, Venus Wars is the story of a war between two opposing nations, and the effect it has on a group of teenagers. Dark and gritty, with an air similar to that of Akira, it focuses on coming of age during the midst of a planet's devastating war.

All in all, these both have a very similar feel. They both have the "great" 80's music as well as the same level of animation and similar animation at that. They also are both fairly Sci-Fi based, so you'd like one if you liked the other.
When watching Bounty Dog or Venus Wars, one major thing sticks out: the color and animation style. Both BD and VW both possess a very yellow, bleak version of a planet in space, where all sorts of things go wrong. You'll get the same dark and gritty feel from watching each of these, so check them out.
In the future, babies are no longer born - they're grown. The crew of the newly developed spaceship Bilkis has been sent to investigate a mysterious "ring" that has shown up in Earth's orbit. Hand-picked through careful gene selection, the crew covers the area of skills needed to complete the mission. Except for ensign Mika Seido, whose gene-type is "white" - undefined.

Both series share a certain sci-fi feel that's not entirely dystopic, but yet conveys the feeling that it's a future best avoided - you'll see political intrigue as the mysteries behind the characters unfolds, with both titles having epic proportions that threatens the world.
The year is 2032. Tokyo has been destroyed by a great earthquake and a new city, MegaTokyo, has risen from the ashes. Humans now live side-by-side with androids known as Boomers who perform many of the menial and laborious tasks that humans despise, but these artificial servants come with a price: they have a tendency to go haywire and attack those they were built to serve. The A.D. Police force was created to try and stop this menace, but its weapons can do little more than annoy the Boomers. Hope lies with the Knight Sabers, four young women with high-tech, armored suits and enough firepower to stop an army - but will it be enough to stop MegaTokyo's greatest threat?

I'm not sure what it is, but both of these seem to have the same play-through as far as watching them, although Bounty Dog has a definate ending to it. They kind of have the same action in both animes with some really cool scenes in both.

Maybe it's because we watched these 2 back-to-back, but both of them seem to have a similar animation style as well as atmosphere. They both have that dark, "something isn't quite right here" felling to them.

Both of these offworld sci-fi anime have a gritty atmosphere to them, with the protagonists fighting against mysterious alien foes to save humanity. Although Bounty Dog has a more character-driven story, both of these titles have the same feel to them, and should please any fan of space colony conflict.
