Bothcentre on the importance of friendship and have decent amounts of fanservice for anime fans, gaming fans and just all other general nerd hobbies. They are both extremely funny and fun to watch.

picconiv picconiv says...

Otaku background makes them similar, "Brocon" and "Tsundere" ingredients are there too, the main character has passive behaviour and is constantly verbally abused.

Other than that, BWTGS is more of a Harem anime where the main character's love life seems to be the main point of the story (thus far at least, but we're only at the 5th episode as of 10.11.2011), oh... and it is definitely more ecchi so if you're into that sort fo thing... enjoy!

Zaig Zaig says...

Gothic lolita cosplayer, ero-gamer female, brother complex sister, and a good-natured guy are in each of these tales about characters who aspire to make friends. The Oreimo characters even make a small cameo in Boku wa. While the perverted fanservice in the aforesaid can get REAL annoying (at least for me), that aside, I cannot perceive a reason how you could like one and dislike the other.

LittlefootRoseRocker LittlefootRoseRocker says...

they both have eroge and stuff...also they have similar atmospheres....and a boy surrounded by pretty girls....ya ya ya....they all want to be excepted by others.....also there are siblings things going on..

OhImFrozen OhImFrozen says...

Both have a sense of a group developing, despite some characters having a dislike for each other. Contains plenty of fan service and displays lots of otaku like culture

Doomoo Doomoo says...

These two are so similar but at the same time two totally seperate anime. While I think Ore No Imouto is better it isn't better by much. The big diffrence is the animation is much more polished in Ore no Imouto. Other than that I can promise you will like one if you like the other. They both even share a large portion of their staff.

animelibera animelibera says...

I enjoyed both of these immensly. Both have aspects of "brocon." Both have female characters who enjoy playing eroge games. The true relationship I thought when watching was that both shows are about the difficulty of the characters to make friends.

InstantReplay InstantReplay says...

Both focus on individuals who struggle socially and, to a certain extent, enjoy Otaku culture. The two main female characters are similar to Kuroneko and Kirino in that they express their affection for each other through insults and childish acts (such as killing each other in co-op video games).

lbgray lbgray says...

The animes are so similar that Kyosuke, Kirino, and thier otaku friends even make a cameo appearance in one of the episodes. They can be seen entering an anime convention when one of the characters in Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai has a flashback about her crowd anxiety. THey have the same feel as both the animes deal with individuals who feel like outsiders bonding together.

juwia juwia says...

Both female protagonists play eroges and there are girls in each anime cosplaying as some sort of goth lolita. The male protagonists would do anything for their sisters as well. Not necessarily theme connected but they're still a slice of life that are both humorous.

bidon bidon says...

I've just saw that full cast of "Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai" on the 11th episode of "Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai"  isn't that enough?

Similar athmosphere and charactertypes. Also there are some funny references to "Ore no Imouto"! Quite hilarious if you saw Ore ni Imoute first

While the male progtagonists greatly differ there is some overlap in the girls they hang out with. The story in Haganai is more romantically harem orientated while Yahari leans more toward comedy. Haganai's male lead is a social outcast because of his hair colour while Yahari's distanced himself after getting a bad start and developted a scewed point of view on the world.

Brad Brad says...

Both shows are essentially harem comedies, Haganai focuses more on the romantic side of things, and Yahari definitely focuses more on comedy. Both shows center male lead who's a social outcast, Haganai's because of his hair colour, while Yahari's is more an outcast by choice after a bad start to his new school life. The main difference between the two series is the quality in writing, with Haganai relying more on pretty girls and simple humour to draw you in, while Yahari excels in creating a balanced group of well written characters and more complex comedy. If you liked one, chances are you will find the other entertaining.

Madoka Madoka says...

Both Yahari and Boku wa Tomodachi (Haganai) follow to socially backwards (or social reject might work better) male leads, Haganai's lead is assumed to be a dellinquent due to his natural blonde coloured hair meaning people avoid him whilst Yahari's lead has a bad view on people and holds no interest in interacting with them. Yahari's lead is built with a well written and strong character making it some good fun to watch and offers lots of laughs but also maybe even some understanding for viewers who might who had social troubles in school, whilst Haganai is built a little more on romantic interaction between the male lead and who fellow club (of all females). Esentially both are romantic comedy though Yahari puts more effort into comedy whilst Haganai is a little more for choosing which girl you want to win. Yahari is structured and written very well meaning you will need to pay a bit of attention to enjoy it to the fullest whilst offering a level of underatanding whilst Haganai is a little more focused on the cute girls and simple comedy which combine for both shows real well.

ashman711 ashman711 says...

the main male protagonists are both social outcasts, one because of his hair, the other because he voluntarily cuts himself off from others due to a warped world view. the main female protagonists in both shows seem borderline Yandere types too. both shows seem to put an emphasis on friendships and the social awkwardness of those without friends.

zetazach zetazach says...

Both animes are about social outcast all in a club. Also, both animes have a male protagonist and two female protagonists. In Haganai, both protagonist decided to make a club together and figure out the concept of friends. While in Yahari, the male protagonist was forced into a club that is about helping others.

rafoka rafoka says...

Both have male leads with social problems.

In Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru. you have a club that helps school students for a variety of problems, mainly focused on social arrangements and conflicts between the students themselves. The main characteristic in Yahari Ore no Seishu...; is the psychological aspect of each character that is well exploited.

On the other hand, in Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai there's a club where the objective is to "make friends" and so they do a variety of activities aiming it.  As you can imagine the comedy is mostly based on the characters' embarassement.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

Both are school animes with a male main character in a club of females and the main character is not popular but more or less avoided. However, Boku wa Tomoachi is more of your typical school club harem comedy.

LordDoctor LordDoctor says...

Screwed-Up Guy surrounded by Attractive Girls who seem to lack interest fails. Many odd but entertaining girls, bad choices on the part of the MC, and a “semi-realism” in the “Slice-of-Life” School-Day Drama style lead to a ridiculous exaggeration of the feeling of need for social and denied romantic interaction gone wrong for the MC, though he doesn't seem surprised!

They are similar in the fact that after a strange and awkward encounter a boy and a girl decide to make a club, with the boy being sort of roped into going along. In both cases the girls are the leaders of their clubs with tendencies to lose their tempers and taunt the other members of the club, while the boy acts as her foil and as the "straight man" throughout the series.  If you like one you are likely to enjoy the other as they both revolve around the comedic situations their clubs get into.

snivets snivets says...

Both shows start with the creation of an after-school club, both shows have male protagonists who are normal and willing to put up with the antics of the energetic girls around them. On the surface, both shows appear to be typical of their genre, yet both manage to engage intelligently with genre (and more general) stereotypes with a similar sense of humor.

clairechiisan clairechiisan says...

From the moment I started watching this show, I noticed many parallels to Haruhi Suzumiya. The club, the array of characters, the comedy; it is all on the same par. I would definitely recommend The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, if you're looking for something similarly fun and hilarious to this anime.

jollyReaper666 jollyReaper666 says...

they both are about life at school and both involve a character who is out of place in there school and they end up in a unique situations that introduce them to new people  i liked both of them alot and the are easy to relate to each other also tora dora is another one that could get grouped with these two

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

Both shows feature a young man getting torn away from his dreary everyday routine by having to join a school club (full of schoolgirls!) that mainly revolves around having fun.

Their male leads share some qualities, like being a bit of a snarker and generally being the voice of reason, and the club activities are very similar.

Haganai is pretty much an ecchi derivative of Haruhi, bit if you really want more of the club antics, do check them both out.

pikachu203 pikachu203 says...

Both shows are about an average-ish boy meeting up with an eccentric girl and creating an odd club that tends to do out of the ordinary comedic things and has lots of quirky adventures.  Yozora is only a tad less bosy than Haruhi, though you'd probably enjoy both characters equally.  The casts of characters are both very quirky, and you can definitely draw a few parallels between them.  They both offer a unique blend of humor with otaku culture tossed in.  I would definitely recommend one to fans of the other.

alp2va alp2va says...

Both have a similar premise with different executions. Both involve the formation of a new club in a high school for bizarre reasons that lead to a cast of memorable characters (mostly female) coming together and getting involved in shenanigans. Hell, the main leads act very similar to each other, with Yozora acting a lot like Haruhi and Kodaka reacting much like Kyon. The side characters have relatively different personalities between the two shows though. Haruhi focuses more on the supernatural whereas Haganai focuses more on relationships.

If you liked one you'll probably end up liking the other!

If you enjoy Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai!, The World God Only Knows, or Problem Children From Another World, you will definitely enjoy either of these anime. They all have a similar feel to them, as if the produers drew from a hat to choose who took what.

Not only is the setup similar, "harem of extremely odd females fighting over the guy," but the level of emotional engagement of the male protagonist is similarly low. Neither main character seems to react overly strongly to the obvious feelings of the girls around him. Lots of fluff & little substance.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai and Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko both deal with being an outsider in a school environment and the long journey to making friends. The animation is also very similar to one another; so if you like either you will probalbly like the other.

I find in both Denpa Onna and Tomodachi they both seem to bring forth the characters which dont fit in all to tell, Tomodachi ga Sukunai being characters who struggle whithin friendships for which ever reasons and Denpa Onna character who struggle to fit into society after passing time.

Both have a good story with enjoyable character which remind me of each other, also the art and animation is rather simular.

If you liked Boku wa Tomodachi Sukanai ,then you'll like MM!, because both are centered around a male character along with 2 main heroines in a club to help them with their problems. Their motive is to fit into society, but they somewhat forget their main objective and enjoy doing day-to-day club activities. The male protaganist in both animes end up center of a love triangle and is unaware of their feelings, but MM! is more open about the feelings than Boku wa Tomodachi Sukanai.

snivets snivets says...

I think these two shows have a similar sense of irony. In Haganai, they make a club to make friends...and make friends. In MM, the, ah, helpful female lead tries to beat the masochism out of the main male lead...ironic much? If you enjoy meta humor in otherwise stereotypical shows, here you will find it.

If you don't mind some nudity and sexual innuendo then you'll find this comedy hilarious!

Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts

Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts

Fumizuki Academy is divided into classes ranked based purely on ability; Class A has laptops, reclining seats and ultimate comfort whereas Class F has to settle for a rundown classroom with rotten cushions and rickety coffee tables. Akihisa Yoshii has recently taken the placement exam and finds himself relegated to the lowly Class F along with many of his friends, and they’re far from impressed with their draughty facilities. Luckily, not all is lost as at Fumizuki, classes can declare war on each other to swap rooms by fighting with summoned characters whose strength is based on the users' test scores. As they dream of escaping their decrepit circumstances, the ‘idiotic’ students of Class F will try whatever they can to reach the dizzy heights of Class A’s luxury, even if it means taking on the entire school in an all-out summoning war!

Angel Beats is fast paced, Boku wa is slower. Both have the same sort of feel, with an isolated group of friends spending a lot of time together, although Boku wa... doesn't have quiet the same back-story that Angel Beats has. Both are more club-activity based, and we see next to nothing of school life itself. While Angel Beats seems to be driven and focused, Boku wa... is calmer and more free flowing anime. Both focus on club activities and a sort of school life, but Angel Beats has more of a supernatural role to it (which is necessary and set up quiet well).
