In both the protagonists are female and end up becoming involved in outer space warfare. If you like one try out the other, they have a similar feel to them.

Suimin Suimin says...

Both of these shows are about a school girl who is suddenly put into a situation in which she must pilot a machine. Both take place in a futuristic setting, and both involve interplanetary activity. If you like the idea of students being dragged out of school in order to fulfill a sci-fi mission, watch either one of these.

Made by the same anime director and actually released at the same time, both being series that thrust teenage anime girls into a plot where they must balance science fiction action with their 'normal' school life (and adventure can never be an excuse for bad grades)... that one show is about space pirates and the other is about mecha fights feels almost incidental.

If you enjoyed Moretsu Pirates, I think there's a very good chance you'll like Rinne no Lagrange.

At the time of this recommendation I've only seen 4 episodes of MP, but regardless, if you are enjoying the school life in space elements of MP, check out the vastly superior Stellvia.

imkoz imkoz says...

They're both really similar in that they involve High School kids making a life for themselves in the future of Space. Stellvia is about Space around Earth, whereas MP is about places beyond Earth (albeit centers around a planet similar to Earth). I think anyone who enjoys one of them will find charm in the other as well.

On the surface the two anime don't seem like they have a lot in common but the thing that links them are the characters. If you enjoyed the characters from ether of these anime you'll love the other.

HKBattosai HKBattosai says...

If you like either Bodacious Space Pirates or Kaleido Star then you'll like the other one because both series feature two female main characters (MC's) with a seemingly unlimited amount of talent. They always exceed expectations. Plus, in both series there is never a real sense of true danger, as if the viewer already knows that everything with turn out positive at end of every conflict. Attribute that to the two aformentioned MC's and their respective abilities.

These two are actually very similar.

Both series have large casts consisting mostly well-written, believable girls.

If you enjoy the fun science-fiction with spaceships, colonised planets and the like of one of these shows, you are sure to love the other.

Argel Argel says...

Kiddy Grade is the show this reminded me before I even started it, and even afterwards, it still resonates. It's not as deep as and has less action than Kiddy Grade but it follows a similar formula such as smaller story arcs, dual life, keeoing it light/not too heavy, more action near the end, etc. The two leads are simiar as well. If Kiddy Grade was a subgnre, then I would say this show would fall into that same subgenre.

These two shows contain a group of upbeat girls in a school environment, but all the interesting (and sometimes serious) action happens outside of school. Interesting, quirky characters, and lots of fun--if you liked one, there's a good chance you'd like the other.

Gavia Gavia says...

Upbeat comedy mixed with action the main focus in both, they simply have the same atmospheres.

Both have memorable casts, with plenty of stand-out characters. In both shows the majority of the characters are female.

Both have school settings, where the school itself is slightly odd. (This is caused by the sci-fi / fantasy setting.)

If you like one you should check out the other.

Call it somewhat of a hunch, but regardless of the plots not being similar I think you may like one if you liked the other (albeit SO is far superior of the two). At least in the first 4 eps of MP, there's plenty of similarity in the strategic (to varying degrees) elements, and both take place in space and involve young adults.

Full Metal Panic!

Full Metal Panic!

Gonzo does it again with this action-packed mecha comedy. She's an ordinary high school girl. He's a counterterror agent assigned to protect her from those who would steal the information locked in her mind. OK, so she's not so normal after all. Armored Slave battles and lovers' spats abound as Sousuke and his comrades try to track down the mysterious Gauln before it's too late.

Mouretsu Pirates and FMP mix elements of school life with elements of military/sci-fi, and both feature schoolgirls filling unusual roles like captain and admiral. If you like cute girls with big personalities and a light side of sci-fi, you're in for a treat on either of these shows.

Although Mai-Hime and Mouretsu Pirates have different tones and overall feels, Marika and Mai are very similar characters. This is a gut-feeling rec, but I think if you like either MC, you might do well to try the other show.

Both Classroom Crisis and Mouretsu Pirates involve sci-fi, outer space, and high school students with unrealistic authority and professional ability (if you counsider piracy a profession). They're both comedic, too. This isn't a definite recommendation, but if you were drawn in by the premise and setting of one, I suspect you'll be interested in the other, too.
