Both anime involve demons/demon slaying, and both involve an academy [more on that later =P].  The feel of some of the main characters is similar as well.

Shiraiyuki Shiraiyuki says...

Ao no Exorcist and Soul Eater are very similar because they both are about killing demons and they both have an academy where they learn to do that.

Lenny Lenny says...

In both there are special academy, which prepare the fighters with evil. In Blue Exorcist it is presented with a Satan and his henchmen. In Soul Eater- demons. The warriors are teenagers, of course. All of them fight with their own style. Also they have a character. The plot is the following and we can see, how they become friends, how they fight and how they live.

RamoneLG RamoneLG says...

similar plot and equally as funny and gripping. characters are similar in some ways and Soul Eater Evans' attitude is almost the exact same as Rin's.

These series each mix action, comedy, and the supernatural. If you find the supernatural really interesting or shounen action shows, they're worth checking out.

Blue Exorcist and Soul Eater, both have:

- a focus on shounen, action, fighting;

- an hunting demon organization, that has a teaching academy;

- main characters that are tainted by the evil they fight;

- good animation.

Drasticc Drasticc says...

Both animes give you a good amount of suspense and adventure a balance of comedy.  Both have the whole, "let's team-up and save the world" feel to it.  Granted it's been done before, but they both have a refreshing fun feel to it. So enjoy.

Jericho Jericho says...

both animes are very dynamic and the pace is very similar. The comic relief is also very similar to Soul Eater, and overall they will both keep you watching

godcix godcix says...

I haven't watched much of Soul Eater but enough to see the resemblance.  They are both action, at times serious, at times way silly, demon slaying anime.

Zarrokian Zarrokian says...

Both are great animes with some amazing action sequences but also some other great aspects incorporated, both also have a decent indepth look into their respectives characters. They also both involve slaying a big bad demon and it takes the combination of all of the schoolmates to accomplish their goals. I recomend both animes for any anime fan whether new or long time!

Both anime is a shounen. Alongisde that, each of these incorproate the ability to kill demons, and the drive to do so. Albeit they each hunt down and kill demons for different reasons, however at the core they are each good shounen romps with some good demon slaiying.

Lizard Lizard says...

Both series involve fighting supernatural creatures, and are similar tone-wise with dark imagery, and intense action broken up with comedy and character development. They both also feature a widely diverse cast of colorful characters that get at least a few minutes in the spotlight each, occasionally with their own adventures and subplots, plus the main characters of both are refreshingly unfettered by worn out tropes, setting them apart from the crowd. If you liked one of these anime for their jaunty action and cheeky humor, then chances are you’ll like the other.

sneezetease sneezetease says...

Both have similar character design and style. They both have ongoing subplots of lurking/creeping darkness that is mysterious and keeps you interested. Both series have a similar style, for example there aren't many episodes of filler, they all pretty much end with just really excellent cliffhangers and have moments throughout that are so well done and chilling that you'll get goosebumps.  Both of these series are action oriented but there is a lot of emotional pain for the characters and commentary on the human condition. Obviously, both are about demon hunting as well, but my main cause for recommendation is the similar "feel." I think if you like one, you will like the other.

LaChelle LaChelle says...

Both involve protecting the world from demons, and involve kickin' fight scenes. However, Blue Exorcist does not involve weapons and meisters, comparitively each character has their own fighting style, similar to that of Soul Eater, and both are filled with plenty of humorous scenes to accompany the fights.

pikachu203 pikachu203 says...

Both surrond a lot of epic demon slaying and a cast of similar characters.  There's a lot of themes involving souls and resounding subtle religious themes.  They also follow a character(or two characters in the case of Soul Eater) going through school to prove they can reap souls or exorcise demons.  They both have action paked moments, and are quite fun to watch.  If you like one, you'll probably like the other.

anosora anosora says...

They both have supernatural elements in both animes. Whereas one has a more comedic animation, the other has a slightly more serious tone to it. They both have very fun undertones, but that doesn't mean both plot lines isn't serious at all, because both of the animes have very serious plot lines. I think both animes suit one another because it's about a large group, its about partners, and it's about trust between family and friends.

thatotakugirl thatotakugirl says...

Both Soul Eater and Blue Exorcist feature specilized schools for hunting down monsters. The characters all grow together as friends and must work together to take down the big bad guys.

IndiDere IndiDere says...

Very action-packed with diverse characters. Both shows have a clearly set goal that needs to be acheived by the end of the series. Soul Eater is a bit simpler in terms of plot, but Blue Exorcist has a very similar vibe to it.

Izumii Izumii says...

Soul Eater might be a bit more random, but both anime have the same kind of vibe - it's hard to explain. All I can say is if you liked one of them, I would definitely recommend to (at least) try the other as well.

Keli Keli says...

Both animes are very different, however, if you liked Soul Eater or Blue Exorcist you may enjoy the other, because of the vibe you get from both animes. It's a very similar vibe.The main character of Blue Exorcist tends to remind me of Soul Evans from Soul Eater time to time.

elliottmarshal elliottmarshal says...

Both stories feature supernatural happenings in a classic high school setting and offer typical shonen tropes. Both appeal to gothic aesthetics and feature plot points addressing difficult family relations (Father-Son, Brother-Brother relations in Blue Exorcist and Father-Daughter, Mother-Daughter in Soul Eater).

FireDemonessJaganshi FireDemonessJaganshi says...

They are both amazing supernatural anime that deal with action in a fantastically animated way, with well-placed humor and gags.

Nothing new to mention as what already has been said before me.

The main characters want to become exorcists and go to a flasy weird exorcist school. Both a shonen but Blue Exorcists is a little bit more mature.

Both shows are about characters who deal with demons or souls. Ren is an Exorcist and the son of Satan. The students in Soul Eater go to Death's school. Each reap souls or demons and has a fair amount of humor mixed in. Soul Eater is more silly at times while Blue Exorcist may have a more serious tone in general.

Both of these anime are about schools for the supernatural. With a cast of powerful teenagers, crazy villains, and sometimes crazier teachers, both anime are a mix of comedy, drama, and action. PhantomhiveBae PhantomhiveBae says...

They both have funny moments and kinda have the same feels, but, thats just my opinion. They both are about deamons and the after life, Rin from Blue Exorcist is the son of Satin and Death the kid is the son of Death so they kinda have the same relationships. WATCH THEM BOTH!!!

They are both similar, and remind me of each other. I can't explain how. But they do. Maybe it's the funny scenes? Or the main characters? I can't explain why. But they both remind me of each other.

Both Blue Exorcist and Soul Eater feature the interior struggle of the characters. The classic battle between good and evil is a central point in both anime, both in the mind and soul and in their respective worlds. Beside that, there is a lot of shounen action to go around and enough comedy to steal a few giggles. If you liked one, you'll definetly like the other.

thatotakugirl thatotakugirl says...

Both series follow the shounen formula: a hotheaded protagonist loses family/friends to the wills of a supernatural monster and vows to get revenge/defeat said monster with the power of a magic weapon and a handful of new friends. Both series have specialized schools and organizations with the purpose of training youth to defeat the monsters. They also share the theme of demons, though for different purposes, and the main characters are more than normal humans. The soundtracks for both series are products of Hiroyuki Sawano, and both series share great visuals/backgrounds.

Weese187 Weese187 says...

It fits the Shounen theme and the part that most of their close family die and they are out for revenge. The beggining is also similar if you think about it. Starts off light than  alot of bad stuff happens then they make new friends but still out for revenge.

AmimeCow AmimeCow says...

Very many paralells in both shows. both focus on some revenge, friends, fitting in, and unique mc powers

I can't even help but I see some strong similarities between some characters of these animes:

Yu=Rin

Ferid=Amaimon

Guren=Mephisto

Shinoa=Yukio

Shiho=Sugura

Yoichi=Shiemi (gender bent huh?)

Mitsuba=Shura

Bugbird1 Bugbird1 says...

Both animes have the same kickass hero feel to them. While Seraph of the End's plot is a bit darker and Blue Exorcist is more light hearted they share similar qualities. So if you like one, I would definitely suggest you check out the other. Even if when you're done you don't think that they're anything alike, hey in the end you've still watched two awesome animes!!

DevillAngel DevillAngel says...

The main character in both  wants to gain power after losing people they love. In both the main character joins a organization where they are trained to fight in order to take their revenge on the ones that killed their family. The main characters personalities are also similar; both are hot-headed and often rush into things before thinking.

ccallstar111 ccallstar111 says...

There are many similarities. Immediately when I began watching Seraph I thought of Blue Exorcist. Both have a main character that isn't very social or good with others, the main character has a rival who ends up on his team, they fight against supernatural beings using weapons and/or curses, the main character seeks out revenge. Blue Exorcist is more comedic than Seraph of the End, however.

AndriasSch AndriasSch says...

Main character who's kind of an idiot and has a hard time making a conection with new people, he has a special sword with demon powers, but he may be a demon himself.In the story the bad guys aren't in fact that bad.

Kind of similar main characters. The main characters Yu/Rin are both in schools which train them to master their skills. Also they have rivals who they butt heads with but then become good friends in the end.

wallflower100 wallflower100 says...

Both shows have plenty of actions and suspense, a strong male character who appears to be careless but is actually  reliable, and all of the characters grow  ore powerful as the series progresses.

exZachly exZachly says...

In both these anime, the protagonists are stripped away of their families and left alone until they join certain organization to avenge their cause with their own hands.

Lost Family in the beginning? Hidden power that a few people know about? Delinquent you get in a fight with on your first day of training/school? Grade difference of having a horrible score and the delinquent you got in a fight with having a perfect score? Demon swords and demon weapons? Being a delinquent like person yourself who doesn't give a shit about school? - These are all things Blue Exorist and Seraph Of The End have in common; Yuu and Rin also both have brothers they deeply care about.

I would maybe go as far as saying Seraph Of The End has more depth to it, but if you liked either one you should definitely check out the other!

HikenNoAsxce HikenNoAsxce says...

Both have two kinds of people. Seraph has Vampire and Humans, Exorcist has Demons and Humans. Both have stories of 2 brothers on opposite sides.Both male protaganist are some what knuckle head and act before they think. Seraph of the End is probably the better one of the 2

In the mist of revenge both characters find some place they belong and make new friends but still seek to avenge their old companions. Both characters don’t really know how to work as a team but are willing to do anything to protect their new friends. Both anime have supernatural with some school life aspect to it. Similar setting in both Anime's. I loved both. Blue Exorcist is more centered around Religion than D. Gray-man is, though they both consend the same message. The devil is evil and it needs to be defeated, or held back. In both stories the main character gains friends trough his adventures and works together with them to defeat their enemies.

Both, D.Gray-man and Ao no Exorcist are about a kid that somehow is tainted but desire to become a exorcist at all cost; figthing even against his true nature.

They are pretty alike because of the name like Cross, Exorcist, Demon.

If you enjoyed D.Gray-man, you will also enjoy Ao no Exorcist and vice-versa. Both anime's have lots of action in them and a great character pool. Ao no Exorcist and D.Gray-man are great animes' for people that enjoy: action, superpowers, demons, and comedy. Though Ao no Exorcist is assumed to become a lot more gore filled than D.Gray-man is. If you enjoyed watching D.Gray-man and was upset when it ended then watch Ao no Exorcist. It is most definetly worth your time. If your just beginning to watch Ao no Exorcist and have never seen D.Gray-man I suggest watching it. I'll warn it is slow at first, but hang in there until then end.

Alucard1 Alucard1 says...

Both series use the dark concept of shounen boys who become exorcists despite thier dark pasts.  Allen Walker and Satan's son are very similar and The Millenium Earl from D.Gray-man is very similar to Satan's son's 'protector.'

Honestly, both D.Gray-man and Blue Exorcist are very similar: both animes deal with demons, exorcists, and an Academy dedicated to train people to become official exorcists. Also, both have an array of interesting characters, in which both main protagonists decide to become an exorcist along with the rest of the cast. If you just finished D.Gray-man and want to watch a similar show, Blue Exorcist is a must see! Oh, and if you never seen D.Gray-man, do so as well! It won't be disappointment at all, trust me c:

Both deal with a group of exorcists who defeat demons. Also, the main cast do have trouble getting along while ultimately caring about each other.

Both have main characters who are mistreated despite being kind hearted. The main characters also find a family and friends within their organizations when they spent a majority of their past being misunderstood. Both also have father-like figures who passed away but influence them greatly.

Both series have plently of action and comedy.

These two titles give off a very similar feel.  Both focus on a group of teenage exorcists striving to protect humanity from demons.  And also, both of the main characters, Allen in D.Grayman, and Rin in Ao no Exorcist, have a power that can also be seen as a curse.  Dgrayman runs for quite a bit longer for Ao no Exorcist.  So if you saw AnE and wanted a bit more check out D.Grayman.  Or if you liked D.Grayman, and wouldn't mind another short series that's similar, give Ao no Exorcist a try.

Both these anime have the typical shounen set up of a powerful male lead fighting spirits intent on hurting mankind. Both have some slick well animated action, a cast of quirky likable characters and they both blend action, comedy and drama together to tell their stories.

Where things differ is Blue Exorcist is a much more typical action anime, whereas Noragami is slower paced and more thougtful especially when it comes to developing the characters and their relationships with each other. Noragami isn't as action packed as Blue Exorcist, but it has more depth and feels much more engaging.

Both these anime build up unique worlds that are populated with intriging characters and conflicts. If you liked on then you should try the other.

Both are centered around a young male protagonist who has some sort of supernatural power... one being the son of Satan and the other being a lesser god.  Both weild a katana in battle.  Both are really goofy, but get really serious when it's time to fight.  Both have a "love intereset" of sorts (i.e. a pretty girl on the side, although I would much prefer Hiyori over Sheimi any day!), as well as a small group of quirky friends that help them along the way.  Both deal with evil spirits and demonic possesstions and how easily people can be corrupted.  They both even have special gates or barriers that the evil sprits come from or move between the worlds.  The only main difference between them is that Noragami is more serious and has better character development and relationship building, while Blue Exorcist has more battle scenes.

XabsentX XabsentX says...

They both have many similarities to each other,

1) Rin and Yato both have the same personality

2) Both Yukio and Yukine have the same personality too but Yukio is the more collected and calm type.

thats what I noticed but i cant seem to describe the plot and the similarities to each other, dont get me wrong, but the THEY ARE REALLLLYYY!! similar...

Both have great art. Story is funny with an unexpected serious undercurrent. Character development is good. Main characters are similar in the way that they use humour and dorky attitudes as a facade to hide a darker nature/past. Quality anime. Lots of action and laughs. Definitely worth watching.

BloodyRedRoses BloodyRedRoses says...

It's awesome, they both have many similar qualities in the genre and it's just worth watching in general.

Scouty Scouty says...

It's literally just the exact same show. Yato is exactly like Rin as they're both 'gods' of a sort who kill demons/phantoms (which are also pretty much the exact same thing), they have a similar personality, both weird some kind of mystical sword, and they even look alike (dark blue hair and blue eyes)

The shows themselves are also pretty similar, as obvious just by the openings, and the characters also seem to match up in some way.

If you like one of these shows then chances are that you will like the other.

Same sort of feel. The character designs are similar, in my opinion. The aesthetic is similar, and there is a focus on exorcism, vague Catholic/religious symbols and themes, as well as death.

The main characters have personalities very reminiscent of each other.

The protagonists of both shows have similar personalities and have people who think they are evil (though this is a much bigger thing in Blue exorcist). They also focus a bit on religion and exorcisms and have an interesting group of people working together. And there's a mix of darkness and humor thrown into both. The plots are fairly different and the progression of the protagonists as well, but they feel similar.

Fire Force (Enen no Shouboutai) and Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) share several similarities:

- shonen anime that focus on fun action;

- an organization that fights against supernatural beings;

- main characters that are tainted by the evil they fight;

- main characters have a brother that is important to the story;

- main character uses fire to fight.

I think that if you liked one you'll probably like the other.

StolenStar StolenStar says...

Both are good animes, with fire themes and magic! Both can delve into darker themes and have a main character who is an outlier, not to mention both named 'demon'. The main characters in both are outcasts in a sense, though they find a place and people who care eventually, for a while they are just alone

Bleach

Bleach

Fifteen-year-old Ichigo Kurosaki is a typical teen with fighting skills, two caring sisters and a special trait: he can see ghosts. However, when Ichigo and his family find themselves under attack by a huge beast, Ichigo discovers that there’s more to the supernatural world than the everyday specter. Vengeful spirits known as Hollows roam the world in search of devouring souls, and Shinigami – soul reapers – work tirelessly to defeat them and guide normal ghosts into a place called Soul Society. Ichigo valiantly fights the Hollow that threatens his sisters, but on the verge of defeat a Shinigami named Rukia gives him her powers, turning him into a Shinigami himself. Ichigo must now adjust to his new life of both vanquishing and saving souls for the sake of Soul Society.

First time i saw Blue exorcist I thought of bleach. It's really similar. Both main characters can see spirits that others can't. Then stranger appears in both shows and tells them about other worlds and these spirits. Main characters get some powers and their journey begins

They are very similar. In both of anime we have a teenage boy who suddenly finds power to see demons and other otherworldly forces. Spirits, swords, fightings,etc.

Vague Vague says...

Exorcists and Shinigami are a little bit different, but both stories have characters defending the world from demons/hollows that normal people can't see. The main characters both have inhuman abilities that they use for good...hooray! The details are quite a bit different but the overall feel and flow of each series is very much the same.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

Both anime involve a young (apparently 15 is the age when supernatural occurances happen) male protagonist who can suddenly use otherworldly powers and a pretty wicked sword. He is joined by others with unique powers to destroy demonic beings.

foltor foltor says...

Structurally, Blue Exorcist and Bleach are very similar: a high school delinquent with inherited supernatural powers and a magic sword gets caught up in a hidden organization of demon hunters riddled with intrigue and corruption. He gathers a network of friends and allies including a smart guy with glasses and ranged attacks, a ditzy hot girl with barrier and healing powers, a smart cranky girl who temporarily loses access to her powers, a guy who looks like a dangerous thug but is acually rather sweet, and a shifty trickster figure with ambiguous allegiances.

They're also thematically and stylistically similar, the main character dealing with literal inner demons and learning to control powers his peers and mentors find scary and extreme, wacky hijinks trying to keep his lifestyle hidden at first, and a general punk aesthetic.

I consider Bleach generally superior, because it has the time to explore everything in more breadth and depth.

BleachSta4Ever BleachSta4Ever says...

I recommend anyone who has watched Bleach to watch Sword Art Online and Blue Exorcist. The reason why is because they both have the hero/heroine. Ichigo is the main character in Bleach and tries to protect everyone. Kirito/Kazuto is the main character in Sword Art Online and tries to protect everyone. And Rin is the main character in Blue Exorcist and tries to protect everyone. Good animes overall.
