The most obvious way that Blue Drop and MariMite are likely to be compared is by the heavy yuri or girl-love elements present in both series. However, the biggest connection is through the extremely important use of body language. Both series are heavy on the drama, but in addition to dramatic dialogue, they often stress facial expressions and body movements to convey messages. The care taken to express this deeper sense of communication in both series is beautiful, and these are the only series to really use them on such a level.

Nocturnalgloria Nocturnalgloria says...

While Blue Drop invests a lot of time in devoloping a sci-fi plot that is utterly absent in Marimite, it remains that both titles have a strong yuri element. The slice of life moments that take place at an all girls' academy are present in both anime and draw them together, despite considerable differences story-wise.

Mjolnir Mjolnir says...

Both anime have elements of Shoujo-ai, though they are not notably huge details but smaller details in the story of the anime. Both series have a plot and character development, where Marimite has more characters with more background stories (and more episodes), Blue Drop has fewer characters with more background on the two main characters. Both anime have serious settings with humerous undertones.

Galadriel Galadriel says...

both Blue Drop and Marimite feature shoujo-ai elements and both of them are set in a school-life setting. While Blue Drop focuses on a sci-fi type of plot, Marimite has way more characters (better character development) and focuses on the life of high school students and their interactions. I guess that if you like one of this two shows then for sure you will like the other one as well.

Gavia Gavia says...

Both are shows with similar poetic atmospheres to them, as well as more-or-less hinted shoujo-ai relationships.

If you like one of them you should check out the other.

Simoun

Simoun

In the world of Daikuuriku, all children are born female; but once they become a young adult, they may choose which sex they will become. In this world which is at war with itself, the women of Simalacrum find themselves charged with the task of piloting the ancient machines known as Simoun in hopes of turning the tide of war. Though originally simple ceremonial machines, the most gifted of pilots can turn the glowing "ri maajon" of their rituals onto their enemies and obliterate them from the skies using these Simoun. However, it takes a special bond between two highly gifted girls to successfully pilot a Simoun. With the toll of blood and pain that these previously innocent girls are taking, how many will be able to carry on, even knowing that they are the only real thing standing between freedom and subjugation of their land?

abunai abunai says...

The most obvious and superficial similarity of Simoun and Blue Drop is that they share the theme of shoujo-ai. On a deeper level, however, the two anime have a great deal in common. The cool, self-contained personalities of Hagino/Ekaril (Blue Drop) and Neviril (Simoun) are of the same cloth, though Hagino is more honest about her emotions. Likewise, Mari and Aaeru have the same rôle of being the extrovert that opens up the closed personality of their partners. Of course, this introvert/extrovert match is a common pairing in shoujo-ai oryuri anime.

In both anime, too, there is a common theme of almost supernatural vehicles (flying in the sky, or diving under the sea), the appearance of which can transform a simple scene into a dream-like one, fraught with significance.

Overall, if you have seen one of these, you will find that there is a familiar feel to the other -- and you will probably like it.

Nocturnalgloria Nocturnalgloria says...

Simoun and Blue Drop offer a mix of shoujo-ai and giant flying ships, a combination that does not occur all that often. In both cases there is a mostly female cast and a war backdrop that fuels the plot is balanced by the interaction between the several characters. Simoun is set in a somewhat fantastical world and follows the clash between religion and military accomplishments while Blue Drop takes place in a world that is more or less realistic

Galadriel Galadriel says...

Both animes share shoujo-ai and sci-fi aspects a combination that we dont see that often in animes that have shoujo-ai as main tag. Both of them are pretty much alike since we have in each of this animes girl x girl couples (Hagino and Mari in Blue Drop, Neviril and Aaeru in Simoun).Even though in terms of story and plot this animes arent similar, when we talk about genre aspects and characters this animes are very similar. As an overall if you seen one of this two animes you will definitely like the other one as well

Fireaxe Fireaxe says...

These two sci-fi yuri series will appeal to any fan out there who enjoys a tiny bit of girls-love in a story based in a fictitious setting. They both involve special aircrafts and other sci-fi'esque technologies, as well as sweet romances that thankfully stays away from the usual otaku-pandering clichés so common to the genre.

Gavia Gavia says...

Both contain elements of military sci-fi mixed with a yuri romance. Furthermore, the main couples are built on similar archetypes – with the reserved, graceful, long haired one as well as the more brash, outspoken tomboy. (Though, to be fair, that exact dynamic is something of a staple of the genre.) Further, the main couple's relationship begins on similarly rocky terms before developing into something more.

If you like one of them you should give the other a chance.

These two anime both feature characters that must undergo an essential change in order to survive in their surroundings. With Blue Drop Mari Wakatake must understand why she was placed in her new school and in Kasimasi, Hazumu Osaragi, must adjust to her new body. These two series are best together because they focuse on the ups and downs that can revolve around love of any sort and the challenge in understanding the people you care most about.

Sora Sora says...

Both Blue Drop and Kasimasi use science fiction as plot device.

Some parts of Kasimasi parafrase Blue Drop, so watching one will remind you of the other.

Although Kasimasi is more ligth-hearted both anime describe the same kind of feelings.

Madoka Madoka says...

Both series focus on a girl/boy who undertakes a large change on their life (Kasimasi - Gender change, Blue Drop - School) in which will make their new life style hard to adapt to. Whilst Blue drop is a little more about plot and story and Kasimasi is a bit more comedy they both develop in a similar way around strong bonds and friendships. It's noteable the series both feature some form of alien presence, i feel in Kasimasi this lost value due to trying to make it funny where as blue drop was a bit more serious. Needless to say i think if you like one of these it might be worth giving the other a try.

Voices of a Distant Star and Blue Drop both feature an impossible romance as the core of the story. Combined with an overlap in the aliens and Sci Fi theme both deliver a similar experience, regardless of the difference in viewing time.

Galadriel Galadriel says...

both Blue Drop and Hoshi no Koe feature an impossible love relationship (doomed relationship more exactly), both animes are heavy on sci-fi, alien aspects as well and both of them feature an intense drama aspect (turning into a tragedy in the end). The only difference is that Blue Drop features shoujo-ai as a main tag (a love relationship between 2 girls) and Hoshi no Koe features a normal male to female love relationship. If you liked one of this two then you will enjoy the other one as well.

First and foremost, both of these shows are yuri romances with a similar melancholic feel to them.

Other than that the main thing they have in common is that both has a secondary character who's an author, as well as some minor plot lines concerning her and her writing difficulties.

If you like one you should check out the other.

Blue Drop and Glass Mask have a different premise, but the way the characters interact (the girls) give you the same feel. Blue Drop is science fiction while Glass Mask is all drama; this recommendation is based on the two having the same kind of "drama".

Figure 17 and Blue Drop have the same basic setting in which a young and lonely female protagonist forms a strong bond with a non human girl. Both have a strong sci-fi element without discounting slice of life moments that introduce character developments as the story progresses. Blue Drop has yuri undertones that are absent in Figure 17 but they both offer a balanced take on daily life drama spiced with aliens and adventure.

In both Blue Drop and Otome, the characters’ ages are similar, there are hints of yuri, and there is highly advanced technology. The major difference between the two is the pacing: Blue Drop is slow and composed, while Otome’s is reckless later on and makes up for it with filler near the beginning.
