If you watched one of these, and find yourself in need of more introspection as a girl figures out her first romanctic feelings towards another girl, look no further.

These two have similar moods, with melancholic yearning and self-doubt as the charcters try to figure out themselves and what they're feeling.

Further, both shows have stunning visuals. The modern school settings are beautiful enough, but neither show lets that hold them back from throwing in a lot of symbolic images (a lot of imagined underwater water scenes to show how the charcters are strugging emotionally) that seem to be at least partially there just to stop things from getting visually boring.

If you like one, the other is worth your time.

If you liked this, you'd definitely like this! Both are awkward girl's love stories about adolescent teenagers exploring their feelings towards another of the same gender.

Timed Timed says...

Both of these series are dealing with a female character who notices feelings for another female, and the story follows them deciding to give into their feelings or continue to second guess themselves. This then causes conflict within themselves which will affect how they act throughout the story and their actions will be heavy decisions for them to make to make sure they are confident with their choice. As an addition to the story the scenery is mostly in a school setting, and has beautiful scenery to add to how a character is feeling by changing the visuals whether it is slightly, or drastically for a scene.

scuffy scuffy says...

I wouldn't say it's a bit alike, or alike at all. It focuses on the hardships and friendships of both anime. Although Step-sister and Best Friends are a stretch apart, they are very similar. One of those similarities is that one actually starts to have strong feelings towards the other and the other can't share said feelings because of their personality. That is why the girl who can share them must conquer their embarrassment and confess!

sakurayae sakurayae says...

Both are great GL anime. Personally, I like AdaShima more, but just a bit. YagaKimi is just as good, or in some people's opinion, more (I don't necessarily agree though). Also, the creators (Iruma & Nakatani) have teamed up multiple times to create other wonderful works, such as Bloom Into You: Regarding Saeki Sayaka. Overall, I think both are enjoyable and a bit alike.

Both are a slow burn, wholesome GL. There are some allusions but they are all in the realm of teenage crush feelings puberty brings.

Anime9irl Anime9irl says...

both good slice of life animes with 2 female main leads with GL in it or bits of GL i liked them both

Littlesilverwolf Littlesilverwolf says...

Both anime about love between two high-school student struggling with certain problem. Both having great visual and similar atmosphere.

They are not serious anime or anime with fights and yelling. Just pure calm school life while realising their love to the another.

Freakwentlykind Freakwentlykind says...

They are both sweet and slow building, I'd say Bloom Into You is ever so slightly more mature. Not in a sexual way, but more the complexity of their feelings towards each other. Nothing that a youngetlr audience couldn't grasp though.

Perruche Perruche says...

Sometimes you need to be with the right person in order to find out who you really are... That special one for/with whom you will overcome your internal conflicts. Both shows follow that journey with complex feelings in a touching way.

They both focus on a Girls love relationship. They both are realistic portrayals of LGBTQIA+ characters.

Both of these GL anime have a similar tone and feel to them, and are both relaxing watches. They're both slow paced, chill shows. Both of them also have a similar classical style soundtrack which adds to this feeling.

Alebord Alebord says...

If you liked either Bloom Into You or Asagao to Kase-san, you'd like the other because both have slow paced girl love.

Nicknames Nicknames says...

Both shoujo-ai shows have a similar feel and have very little drama in it. If you liked one and you're looking for a show with a similar tone give the other one a go

LamiaNymph LamiaNymph says...

Both seires have a very calm and healthy same sex relationship , with a rather minimal dose of drama.

LittleRaven470 LittleRaven470 says...

I found that both of these shoujo-ai left me with a heartwarmed feeling, both also having minimal drama and showing the beauty yet also difficulty of love and finding out how you feel about someone.

Sweet GL anime, Kase-san is more fluffy and Yagakimi is more focused on developing the characters and exploring different kinds of love.

Sabure Sabure says...

If you're looking for a more dramatic - but not too dramatic - yuri series, both Bloom Into You and Citrus should fit the bill. They both feature solid storylines that feature relationships where one of the partner girls is dealing with personal issues. The sex scenes in both series are very subtle and not explicit so even if you're not comfortable with same-sex relationships, the characters and plotlines make these series a good watch.

KarmaKhameleon KarmaKhameleon says...

Both anime coincidentally feature a raven haired class president and their romantic relationship with a fellow female classmate who's names are similar, Yuzu and Yuu, one having red hair and the other having blonde hair. The similarities don't stop there, in each anime one of the girls is completely thrown for a loop when their friend expresses their romantic feelings for the other.

Rutrum Rutrum says...

Even though bloom into you is kinda different they are both really fun to watch. Citrus is quite slow (like every romance anime) and Bloom into you has less romance moments in it. But i still recommend both of them and you should definitely watch both!

Timed Timed says...

To start these are both GL Romance anime, they are both well made and have good plots that were entertaining to watch whiel it is still a romance. Bloom Into You is more based in the sudent council part of school while Citrus isn't as much, but they are both school life anime. They both have very good scenes that fit the anime well, and are both excellent GL anime to watch.

Civan3931 Civan3931 says...

Both are the types of Yuri anime theme and sometimes with drama types, all of this is depends on the view of girl love with the student council and the lover one, all of which are special of Yuri anime.

ChiefEugene ChiefEugene says...

Citrus and Bloom Into You feature very very similar characters, with very similar traits. Both have 2 MC's, one of which is oblivious or is not fully understanding to the meaning of "love", whereas the other one exhibits a sort of unfair one-sided love, though not necessarily unrequited. To put it simply, both shows ground themselves on defining what is the true definition (though subjective) of love. Just as a reference, the following characters are similar:- Nanami Touko - Mei Aihara (In regards to unfair love)- Yuu Koito - Yuzu Aihara (In regards to innocence, or lack of understanding in regards to love)Just to clarify however, the similarities in characters I'm pointing at is purely the power differencial between the respective MC's, in each respective pair.

Both shows are chill shoujo-ai with barely any drama featuring high-schoolers. The only difference between the two is that Sakura Trick is a bit more fanservice-orientedbut fans of one will enjoy the other too.

FrostedCinnamon FrostedCinnamon says...

Both have cute yuri themes, Bloom Into You is something you might watch before Sakura Trick though. Sakura Trick is lighthearted, slice of life, and Bloom Into You takes a more emotional and introspective view of a relationship between the protagonist and love interest.

Girls loving girls in school settings. The drama is more likely to lead to sadness than to anger, especially since most of it come from one-sided romance. Their similar melancholic and beautifully artsy atmospheres means fans of one are likely to love the other.

Both anime explore a relationship with a person who doesn't understand love while being overly forward, while simultaneosly within a complicated love triangle.

Sakurasou has both more drama and more comedy, and focuses on a heterosexual relationship. Bloom Into You is Shounen-Ai, and lighter to digest.

To keep it short, both animes have those interesting and almost complicated relationships. I will say that "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas" is indeed much more sad than "Bloom Into You" (but isn't most anime movies more sad than normal animes...). Anyways, they are similar in character development and kinda in the plot... kinda.
