I am always fond of stories that touches upon dark and taboo stuff, so naturally I was immediately drawn to Black Butler.

On the day of Ciel Phantomhive's birthday, his family is killed in a fire and he himself is kidnapped to be used as a sacrifice. However, before the sect that took him could kill him he makes a deal with a demon, whom he names Sebastian Michaelis. Sebastian promises to help Ciel get his revenge, and in return Sebastian gets Ciel's soul.

I don't have exactly anyhting negative to say about this anime. I thought it was well-executed, I really liked the characters, the soundtrack was okay and it could be really dark sometimes. Do I even have to say that Sebastian Michaelis is my biggest anime crush of all time? I know he has done bad things, I know his relationship with Ciel is so far from healthy as it possible can get (and no, I am not refering to them as a romantic couple), but I can't help it. There is just something about this character that draws me in. Not only is he insanely attractive (you can't deny that), but the way he overall holds himself and interact with the world is just so damn compelling to watch.

Would I recommend this anime? Yes, but not to everyone. The anime hints at issues such as child molestation (and don't even get me started on the second season), however it is not graphically shown, so no worries.

Wow, I was so surprised with this anime. I knew about it for a long time, but never really wanted to watch it. But than I thaught it's so popular, I may as well try it.

I can't believe I spent so much time not wanting to watch it, it really is an excellent anime. I don't know where to start. Always searching for a good anime to watch while I had this one right in front of me. Stupid me! :)

Anyway, here is the story:

In old Europe in England a young boy exchanges his soul for a butler (Sebastian). The butler must help him take revenge. And so you get to see their beautiful relationship develop, even though Sebastian is a demon who wants to eat his lonely soul. This Sebastian is amazing, and the japanese voice actor I think has done an excellent job. Not only the character is a perfect butler, sexy, funny, gorgeous and has a soft spot for cats!! omg You realy get to know the other characters in the story. Of course all the anime is very well drawn. Also at the end of both seasons you will cry. :)

I certainly recommend this anime to everyone. You just get sunk in after the 1 and second episodes. Than you can't stop watching. Thank you for making such an amazing anime!!!

Without doubt the first half of this anime is addictive, to the point that I myself watched thirteen episodes straight, barely noticing the time go by. It is intriguing, wonderfully balanced, and Sebastian himself is a captivating character (as are some others).

While, as with any show, there are some "flaws" these are easy to overlook, however the way in which the anime begins (in both seasons) will certainly not be to the taste of those who dislike being dropped into a story that reveals it's beginnings over later episodes. This is particularly evident in season two where many viewers may be confused until around episode five, or six.

However, no matter how good the story was, no matter how beautiful the animation, no matter the attention given to other aspects (like Jack the Ripper which I smiled at), the main attraction in this anime is the demon butler Sebastian. He is, as he likes to say, one hell of a butler. His relationships with the other characters, particular his master Ciel, are interesting and figuring out what he's thinking can be a challenge.

The exchanges between himself and Ciel are certainly also a selling point on this show.  On which note I'll also add that Ciel himself is an intriguing character, as well he should be. Between the both of them it can be hard to care much about anyone else.

Attention to detail was definitely a point in this anime, as everything slots together seamlessly (ignoring story for a moment). Gorgeous animation, music which fitted in perfectly, and use of colour palettes create a setting which (while perhaps not really noticed by a majority) is certainly what makes much of Kuroshitsuji effective. Additonally (as it often is) the voice acting here is good... Maaya Sakamoto does a great job of voicing Ciel.

But enough of the good, and some of the bad. Well not bad. Slight dips from awesome. See, even though even minor characters had some interesting background, it would have been nice if this interwove a little more. And I honestly found that some of the story points were not as strong as they could have been, or I found them a little farfetched or bizarre (and I've watched some pretty bizarre stuff), but hey there were so many good elements I was happy to shrug it away. Perhaps there wasn't enough suspense, but I didn't expect there to be.

Perhaps my biggest gripe with Kuroshitsuji is the not so epic showdown. It wasn't all the logical.

However, I liked the looseness of the plot (which others may not), and I wasn't bothered by feeling a lack of connection with the characters.
