Both are supernatural mystery anime, which are animated using a specific style that fits the show's atmosphere well. Un-go relies more on solving the case for the story, whereas Bakemonogatari relies heavily on dialogue.

Bakemonogatari is a terrific SHAFT work like F/LE. Fate/Last Encore has a similar level of directing and type of storytelling, both have few fight scenes, a lot of dialogue and a lot of exposition, as well as abstract backgrounds and surreal atmosphere.

If you liked one for the weird surreal and stylistic elements, you might like the other. The Araragi sisters at the end of each episode of Bakemonogatari reminded me very much of the shadow players in Utena. They both have very striking visuals and play around a bit with your perception of what you think you're looking at.

Both shows have a male protagonist who solves problems of different girls in a sort of episodic fashion. Both narratives don't really follow a linear fashion but have a semblance of a plot within them.

Also both of shows handle a variety of different art styles, with Bakemonogatari having more art styles than 18if.

Despite being different Gerne's, they have a really similar feel.

Both are mature series with ecchi elements that also have rather trippy and thought provoking sequences involving it's characters.

Both series are also dialogue heavy compared to other shows.

- Both anime feature a MC who is inherently flawed yet likable due to their wit and emotional depth as characters

- These anime also feature a wide range of female characters who have emotional depth as well. Many of the characters in each anime get a fair amount of screen time instead of being mere side dishes to the main character and his "best girl"

- Both anime like to go to bold direction and tackle themes that may hit too close to home for their respective audiences

MeNotYou MeNotYou says...

While Beautiful Bones is more of a detective series with the two protagonists solving deaths from bones, Monogatari (series), is a fantasy series with the protaganist seeking solutions to appearances of spirits and vampires that are afflicting his (high)schoool class mates.  It is execellently done and well worth watching.
