Haikyuu!!

Haikyuu!!

Shoyo Hinata isn't a large guy, but he's got huge ambitions. Ever since seeing a small player score in a National Championship, he's been determined to become the next big thing in High School Volleyball. Unfortunately, the one time he was able to pull enough players together to form a team in junior high, they were completely trashed in their first and only match against a team led by up-and-coming setter Tobio Kageyama. Now, enrolled at the same high school where his idol once played, Shoyo's finally going to get his shot to join and play with a top team. There's just one problem: Tobio Kageyama's decided to attend the same school, and he's already considered one of the best players in the game. Can a kid out of nowhere hold his own against the King of the Court? Or could the rivalry and competition actually be the best thing for both of them?

both sports anime that focus on a lively protagonist, with a slightly stoic best friend/rival

dhere1 dhere1 says...

They both have loveable characters, the plot is amazing, give it a chance! Not only do they have love able characters but the characters backstories are amazing. The animation in both animes are also done very well.

I liked both anime a lot , i am obsessed with haikyuu! so i thought i'd try backflip and it didn't dissapoint

kazumera kazumera says...

Both shows have characters that are well written + really easy to get attached to. The 2 main characters from Backflip!! really remind me of Hinata and Kageyama.

alicwxe alicwxe says...

First of all, if you watch it in japanese the voice actors of the two main characters are the same as hinata and kageyama's. It's a sport anime and the characters have developed backstories

yujiosato yujiosato says...

Haikyuu!! is like Bakuten!! but bigger. There was more world-building and characters in it so there was always someone to relate to. I recommend going from Bakuten!! to Haikyuu!! because while it is newer that means it's smaller right now and easier to keep up with since there are fewer characters to learn about and keep track of. (truthfully at first I couldn't keep track of everyone's names in Haikyuu!! until later on. it overwhelmed me a bit at first but I love it)

DokjaBorae DokjaBorae says...

The most obvious answer is that both are sports animes; so, if you like that genre, you'll most likely like it.

Despite that, there're quite some similarities between the main characters and the plot. Without actually spoiling anything, the main characters are kinda in the same situation, and they grow thanks to others characters.

Anyway, both are really good and you'll love them. Also, both openings are so dope!

RoyalYaoi RoyalYaoi says...

The characters reminded me a lof of those of Haikyuu

Also the story telling is very similar with Haikyuu.

crystal621 crystal621 says...

In both animes, you see the protagonist as they try to reach the highest with their team. There are differences of course, you'll adore the characters in Haikyuu!! as much as you did in Backflip!!

THe characters in both are pretty unique and they both focus on someone who is new to some sport and they learn from a more experienced person

Evelynnnny Evelynnnny says...

They seem to have similar story lines and both use sport as a main focus. They way they present sport is also similar. With both being very competitive

Nathox Nathox says...

Gives of the same vibe~

I think that if you liked Bakuten/Backflip then you have a high chance of liking Sk8 the Infinity too. This is because of how the dynamic between the character is and the quirky and lovable characters.

But the most important thing is that it gives of the same vibe~

sjahsltolas sjahsltolas says...

Both Sk8 and Bakuten/Backflip are sports anime where the main focus is characters and relationships along with competition (they are sports anime after all). Both have beautiful animation for the skateboarding and the choreography for the gymnastics along with beautiful coloring and directing

kkimczyra kkimczyra says...

Together with their newfound friends, Langa and Futaba fall in love with sports they were previously unaware of, such as skateboarding and rythmic gymnastics. Despite the fact that they engage in different sports, they share common sentiments about friendship and how they achieve their aims.

Both anime revolve around a rather "not so famous" sport heavily interwined with dance and music. Both have beautiful animation accompanied by music that's elixir to ears. In fact if you finish Yuri on ice first then watch the first few moments of Bakuten you just might mistake it for a spin-off of the former. None the less both stand on equal footing in terms of elegance and gracefulness .

PS. When I say not so famous I'm comparing it to the likes of football, baseball and basketball

blmanhwalover blmanhwalover says...

competitive physical sports. both anime are really good in animation when it comes to how the performer feels when they are performing. in bakuten, futaba feels like a bird soaring in the sky while yuri feels power and emotions flowing out of him when ice skating. competition, hard work and grit are common aspects of both anime.

sjahsltolas sjahsltolas says...

Both are really fun, really beautiful shows. The characters are diverse and well rounded. There is a lot of interpersonal "drama" in both that makes both the sports stories all the better

Backflip!! and Free! are both sports animes featuring characters with very similar vibes and relationships, like the way that they all get along and the friendship dynamics between them. The fanservice in both is also present, I mean, Free is a swimming anime so that couldn't be avoided, while Backflip is a gymnastics anime, both sports involve more skin showing than other sports like soccer or volleyball would.

Also- the art in both animes is SO similar...and I don't mean art style, I mean the way during a swimming/gymnastics competition or a breakthrough during training a character has this deep artistic vision inside their mind. In Free, Haru envisions water, swimming freely through it, like a dolphin, while in Backflip, Shotaro & other characters envision a bird, flying freely through the air.

The symbolism in both animes is immaculate!

Both are male sports anime in which the characters live in a dorm. The casts are dynamic and vibe very well. The individual characters also have compelling drama and backstories. The soundtracks are also both written by Yuki Hayashi, whose music hypes the sports scenes extremely well.

Both are about Gymnastics although a different kind. In both a newly formed team tries to learn quickly in order to compete. Both show love the sport and what it takes to get there. However, Ganba Fly High is more of a sports anime, while Backflip!! is more of a slice of life that has a sport in it (most of the episodes are spent in day to day activities and has lots of filler-fluff that includes several cliches), so if you are more into sports I rather recommend Ganba.

If you like backflip or gymnastics samurai, you'll love another one. Because I say so heee

Sports : If you like sports anime, these are both sports anime, But what they both have in common is that both are based on gymnastics. You will find many cool gymnastics moves. The way those moves are animated is amazing in both.

Music : Background music is not the same but good in both anime. When all of them do gymnastics, the music of that time is commendable.

The overall tone of both anime is similar. Sometimes sentimental, mostly comedy. Focuses more on the characters and makes us emotional.
