The first episode was a really good edition to the series, giving some insight into the Titans that occured earlier on in the first season. It was emotional and intense, making you question just a bit more even if you've seen all three seasons.

The second episode was purely comedy and stepped away from the AOT theme of suspense and death. I saw in the first review that the person hated it, but personally I thought it was hilarious and laughed multipe times at how ridiculous it was. It was nice to see a different atmosphere for this show, if only for one epsiode. The giggles is a nice break from all the death XD

The third episode was also really good; it showed us the cadets first mission with all the original characters that have mostly died at this point. As good as it was watching them all work together it also made me sad watching the cadets bond when I know all the people who die and all the tension that occurs later on as more secrets were revealed.

Overall these three episodes are just 3 short stories that add to the story and give you a break from the heaviness of the main seasons so I really enjoyed all three episodes.

I really enjoyed the OVA's more than I thought I would!

Episode 1

Oh boy, this one left with a lot of questions that I hope will be answered in season 2 when I watch it. Not gonna say much since I don't want to spoil it.

Episode 2

I know that one person who wrote a review didn't like this episode. This one was more focused on comedy I guess. But I really liked seeing how the characters where more humanitized ( hoping this is the correct word😂)

Episode 3

It was really nice seeing them on a mission/training mission. But what I loved most was being able to see Marco again. I started talking up as soon as I saw him, but my heart especially broke when he said "I wonder what soldiers will become" to Eren  when they were outside drinking coffee I think. RIP Marco. 😭

Also sorry I suck at explaining things 😂

While the first episode was great the second one was....WTF. Like really? I wanted to do a table flip. It was so bad it made me want to cry. I have no idea how they came up with that. Oh god, I just hope they do anything like that again. Ugh. It didn't feel like an Attack on Titan episode at all.

The "Attack on Titan" OVAs provide a unique extension to the main series, offering fans additional content that ranges from side stories to character backstories not covered in the main anime. While these episodes aim to enrich the "Attack on Titan" universe, their impact and execution present a mixed bag of qualities that resonate differently with the audience.

The Highlights

  • Diverse Storytelling: These OVAs explore various facets of the "Attack on Titan" world, from Levi's past to a humorous, day-in-the-life story within the Survey Corps. This diversity offers something for everyone, whether you're looking for deeper character development or a light-hearted break from the main series' intensity.
  • Character Depth: Particularly in the episodes focused on Levi's backstory, we gain invaluable insights into the characters' motivations and histories. These moments add layers to already complex characters, making their decisions and actions in the main series more understandable and impactful.
  • Animation and Sound Quality: Consistent with the main series, the animation and sound design in these OVAs are commendable. The attention to detail in both action sequences and quieter moments helps maintain the immersive experience "Attack on Titan" is known for.

Where It Falls Short

  • Inconsistent Engagement: While some episodes provide significant depth and entertainment, others may feel like missed opportunities. The variance in story quality means not every OVA will resonate with all viewers, potentially feeling like filler rather than meaningful content.
  • Limited Scope: Given the vast and complex world of "Attack on Titan," these few episodes can only scratch the surface. Fans looking for substantial lore expansion or answers to the main series' larger mysteries might find these OVAs lacking in new or revelatory information.

Quirky Additions

  • Unique Perspectives: The OVAs' ability to step away from the main narrative allows for creative storytelling angles, such as a more comedic episode that offers a rare glimpse into the daily lives and dynamics of the characters outside of battle.
  • Supplementary Content: For hardcore fans, these episodes are a treasure trove of "extra" content that, while not essential to the main storyline, provide additional color and context to the world and its characters.

Conclusion

The "Attack on Titan" OVAs serve as a supplementary dish to the main course of the series. Their ability to dive into character backstories and explore side stories adds valuable dimensions to the overarching narrative. However, their appeal might be inconsistent, with some episodes hitting the mark in terms of depth and engagement, while others might not capture the audience's interest as strongly. Overall, these OVAs are a mixed bag that hardcore fans will likely appreciate for the additional glimpses into the "Attack on Titan" universe, despite their limitations in scope and impact.
