Vexille: 2077 Isolation of Japan

Disturbed by Japan’s emergence as the de facto world leader in robotics, the United Nations instituted an international treaty requiring stringent regulations. When vocal objections failed to overturn the decision, Japan chose to withdraw from the UN and vanished from world view in a self-imposed isolation made possible by an impenetrable electromagnetic barrier. Now, ten years later in 2067, the only means of contact between Japan and the world belongs to Daiwa Heavy Industries, a powerful corporation monopolizing the world’s robotics market. The uneasy truce comes under question when SWORD, a U.S. special forces unit, finds disturbing evidence that Japan may have sinister designs for the rest of the world. SWORD must now infiltrate Japan to separate fact from fiction, but is anyone prepared for the truth?

The animation of both movies is very similar. Both are set in a future where ''bioroids'' and robots play an important part in human society. The theme is also alike, it deals with the question; ''Whats better, humans or androids?''. There also is a great deal of action in the two of them.

redteardrop redteardrop says...

Both movies have a very similar feel in the animation style as well as being set in the future. With small mech suits and an underlying question on the defenition of human freedom, these movies keep you entertained on an action and socialogical level.

If you like futuristic style anime similar to Ghost in the Shell, then I would reccomend both Appleseed Movie and Vexille.

runpsicat runpsicat says...

Both movies address some of the ethical and moral concerns that would arise should society closely integrate technologies that blur the boundaries between man and machine, e.g. bioroids, androids and cyborgs.

ion123 ion123 says...

Both movies have aweosme graphics, awesome stories. Both movies have some types of andriods. The world in both movies is under danger of destruction. So, if these are the types of things that interest you, you should check out both movies.

Gobstopper Gobstopper says...

I believe Vexille was done by the same guys who did Appleseed movie. Great storyline and mechs looks similar. The CG in Vexille is fantastic; more of a cell shading look--similar to Appleseed: Ex Machina. All three are great!

cerberus38 cerberus38 says...

Both anime movies have a similar setting, in a futuristic city with a large population of androids. The main protagonists are very similar; they are both arse-kicking women belonging to a police/special force unit in armoured suits. The animation is also very similar and very easy on the eye. If you liked one, check out the other.

InuyashaSit InuyashaSit says...

Both movies are set in a post-apocalyptic type world. Where humans and machines have to co-exist.

Both focus on the idea of humanity and what it entails to be human. Can you create a "better" human. and other ideas like that

The CGI animation is wonderful. It's quite appealing to watch, and the detail that was put into each character is apparent.

Plus the action is dope. So all in all, they are quite similar. If you liked one, you will most likely like the other (^.^)

aritentd aritentd says...

If you like the style of one, you won't be disappointed with the other. Visually these titles look alike and they are gorgeous, especially in hd.

Both stories are dealing with the idea of a society formed by artificial beings and are questioning our morals in dealing with such society.

If you are in a mood for a great looking sci-fi, you have just found them, but don't expect too much from the story.

Innocency Innocency says...

Both Appleseed and Vexille have many things in common. Most obvious is their animation style; a hybrid between CGI and conventional anime, and both make great use of it - which is all the more appreciative when both movies include scenes of great fights/battles in a sci-fi futuristic world. Also, both movies have a plot which is full of calm scenes and intense scenes, providing enough plot and action to leave the viewer satisfied. Another reason for this recommendation is regarding how both movies play out, as they lead to a great climax involving threatenly huge and advanced technology.

nosaint317 nosaint317 says...

The simularities are easy to see. The 3D animations, the mech suits made for battle, the people using science to play god with the human race in simular but different ways, and in both cases, the main character is a bad ass military chick. If you liked either, I'd definately recommend the other.

Proxy11 Proxy11 says...

Both movies have a extremely similar CG style as well as action scenes. They take place in the future with mechs/suits as well. Just that is enough right.

MwrulesC MwrulesC says...

These two movies share a similar animation style. Both are set in the future and feature a female lead who is quite capable of holding her own in a fight. There is plenty of action in both movies, as they explore what it means to be human. While I feel that Appleseed is the better of the two, I think if you enjoyed one, you'd probably enjoy the other.

Both Appleseed and GitS have the same futuristic and epic feeling to it. Were you are thrown into a future filled with cyborgs, robots and stuff. Both series have a good script and is artisticly verry well done(even though one is CG/anime and the other one just pure anime). Two great action/scifi works that have to be seen.

Ozy Ozy says...

I watched Ghost in the Shell maybe a year ago, and I loved it, but I just finished watching Appleseed and the movie to me was almost paralell in coincidences and happenings... It only seems fit that if you were to like Appleseed you'd like GitS, fight coreography in both is amazing!

ZenithAstrali ZenithAstrali says...

Both works of Masamune Shirow raise questions about life and the rights of robotic humanoids, being cyborgs, AIs or bioroids, in a society where the line between humans and robots is becoming thinner. They are also filled with great fight scenes and well done animation. The main female characters also look very similar. They are a must see for sci-fi cyberpunk lovers.

Pripyat Pripyat says...

While Gits goes much deeper you will find a similar atmosphere.

What will happen if we can replace human bodies with machine and keep our conscience. Would your loved ones still love you? Would you be the same? What if your a robot with develops a conscience? How do you know you were human in the first place?

If you like cyberpunk you'll love this anime. Distinct characters, massive intrigue and many, many other things make a great anime :)

The movie "Appleseed" reminded me of "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence" (GITS2) because of the amazing art involved. I am a very visual person so when I saw GITS2, I was just blown away with the eye candy. Then when I saw Appleseed I was even more amazed. Also, both movies had some good music to go with it. I preferred GITS2's music and Appleseed's action/story. I didn't love the story in Appleseed, but GITS2 had barely any clear story. For visual-lovers these are must-sees otherwise you may want to skip these movies.

Bateau Bateau says...

If you love the work of Masamune Shirow, then these two movies are a must see. Chuck full o'action, twisted plots, and jaw dropping CG.

Adouma Adouma says...

These movies are the product of Anime's first foray into CGI. It can have them feeling a bit strange, like the graphics are too smooth, somehow. But if you're into that sort of thing, both feature high-quality action and girls who kick ass. Reccommended that you watch Ghost in the Shell before the sequel though, obviously~

Both of these have stunning visuals and fast-paced action. While the stories are different, it just seems natural that ifyou've watched one, you should watch the other.

The main character in both are over natural and have to fight in order to protect ideals with guns and blood.

A cientific plot (about human development) is behind in both too.

Niw Niw says...

These two action movies are rather similar by their plot: both have their main characters to take up arms to not just defend themselves, but also their ideals and, ultimately, whole humankind. They offer a satisfactory level of depth in both the characters as well as the surrounding world. If you’re an action movie fan and liked one, I don’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy the other as well.

I watched "FFVII: Advent Children" after watching the end of the Final Fantasy VII videogame. Like the anime movie "Appleseed", the animation was state-of-the-art and the music was of course great (for fans of Final Fantasy music). The Advent Children plot on the other hand... it was "cheesy" (unrealistic). I thought Appleseed had a much better plot while Advent Children had much better music. Both had state-of-the-art graphics and lots of action (fight scenes) so they should have similar reactions. Advent Children was like the Matrix in an anime while the Appleseed movie was just artsy. As a fan of great visuals I highly recommend these movies.

Sangokagome Sangokagome says...

Both are great movies with amazing CGI animation and a serious feel to them, with the occasional laugh. A futuristic setting is where they both take place, and the main characters are both trying to destroy a great evil in their respective worlds. Both are wonderful pictures and are quite the experience to watch.

Both films feature post-apocalytic settings with plots around action and conspiracies. Both have awesome computer graphics, though Appleseed has gone for a more of an anime feel whereas Final Fantasy went for realism. If jaw-dropping computer graphics and action are your thing then check both of these out.

Nocturnalgloria Nocturnalgloria says...

Appleseed and The Spirits Within are sci-fi movies done exclusively with computer generated technology, which lends them the same overall feeling, 3D animation dominating the viewing experience almost completely. The plot is similar, in both cases humanity is at the brink of extinction and it is up to scientists to come up with solutions.
