Like cute girls as naval ships? Like cute girls saving the world from supernatural forces? Like exciting naval battles.  Then you will love this!

OtakuVoice OtakuVoice says...

Both have the same idea of the the enemies being ships that are prevent humans from being able to use the sea. On top of this idea it also has the ideas of the only way to fight is to use girls, but instead of using ships with the appearnce of girls this series has girls fighting pretty much as ships.

RiniRini21 RiniRini21 says...

Both Kan Colle and Arpeggio of Blue Steel deals with girls that are the spirits of naval vessels an alien races that have taken over the sea. Although in Arpeggio is more of a harem based show.

If you are interested in one you will probably also enjoy the other.

Brad Brad says...

Battleship loli’s saving the day with their impressive – and downright crazy – powers of naval badassery is the order of the day for each of these series as we follow a group of kids waging war against a mysterious evil fleet that seemingly appears out of nowhere. Both series have a decent array of girls, they both have pretty fun naval combat scenes and they’re both heavy on the CG, often to varying degrees of success.

Chances are if you enjoyed one, then you’ll want to give the other shot.

Poio Poio says...

You cannot really compare the animation given the age difference (although Vandread comes out ahead on this one, bar the 3D sequences).

The story is similar - the protagonist ends up fighting alongside the "enemy", which in both cases seems to be comprised of females, and pretty ones at that. Women end up discovering themselves due to the main character as well as falling for him after they overcome the initial differences.

Both Fafner and Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio are about alien races who come to earth seeking to learn more about humanity through fighting. In both anime, humanity are close to absolute ruin. In the process of this intermingling, the alien race discover humanities free will and are transformed by it. They then discover the value of human emotions like love and how having something to save causes an individual to exceed normal limitations. The aliens after engaging in warfare and coming into contact with humans develop a freewill of their own and a seperate distinct identity capable of choosing there own paths leading to a destiny of their choosing apart from a collective or progammed one. In both anime the aliens appear as machines and can also assume human appearance.

These two have a slight military feel that, reminded me of the Second World War, with Girls und Panzer having Tanks and Arpeggio of Blue Steel Naval ships from that era. Cute girls and tanks, cute girls and Warships. What is there not to like.

Heroic Age

Heroic Age

Far, far away in a distant time, there is a tribe of people called the Golden Tribe who have the ability to create stars and foretell the future. They gave out a warning to those who have yet to mature: 'Move.'. Three tribes answered their call: the Silver Tribe, the Bronze Tribe, and the Heroic Tribe. Soon after, the Golden Tribe encountered a crashed ship in which only a baby human known as Age survived; they named the child's race the Iron Tribe and assigned one of the few living members of the Heroic Tribe to protect him and his race. Now, in a distant part of the galaxy, humanity is threatened with extinction at the hands of the other tribes. With only a prophecy to go on, they set out to the deepest depths of space to find their savior named Age -- humanity's last hope.

Plot mayby is not similar, but both anime has climate of tactic combats includeing massive laser/beam guns.

Also small-talks between AI is like between Nodos. It's include themes loneliness or self-consciousness.

Heroic Age is more complex, if you watch it you can try Aoki Hagane, if you watch Aoki you definitely should watch Heroic Age

Submarine 707R

Submarine 707R

Under the threat of terrorism, the world’s navy united as the Peace Keeping Navy (PKN); and though each country contributed an atomic submarine, Japan offered only one powered by diesel – the 707, otherwise known as Snapping Turtle. During the first meeting of the navy the terrorist organization known as the USR attacks and tries to take out the Apollo-Norm aircraft carrier, but at the last minute Captain Hayami sends the 707 in the path of the torpedo. Shinkai no Kantai: Submarine 707

Shinkai no Kantai: Submarine 707

To combat the terrorist organization known as "USR", eleven countries combine their naval forces to form the Peace-Keeping Navy (PKN). However, all hell breaks loose when Admiral Red and his USR submarine UX crash the PKN's inaugural ceremony and destroy majority of the fleet. At the last minute, when the UX lands the final blow on the aircraft carrier Apollo-Norm, the obsolete Japanese submarine 707 (a.k.a. "Snapping Turtle") appears from out of nowhere and sacrifices itself to save the PKN flagship. Six months later, Captain Youhei Hayami is called back to duty to lead a new group of recruits and captain an all-new 707 in the war against terrorism underwater.
