If you liked Angel cop thisi series is for you!! It has the same awful dubbing with the over the top swearing and some of the worst lines you've ever heard. The blood and gore is also very similar to the style of Angel Cop.

VRDave VRDave says...

Okay, so you have cops, violence, and a very creative bad guys. Mix that with some nude scences and more violence and you have a another great/bad cop vs bad guy anime. Angel Cop from what I've seen tends to be a little more serious than Mad Bull though.

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

Both are ugly and violent OVAs that are ostensibly about the challenges law enforcement officers face. Both also come with rather... thespianly challenged dubs chock full of expletives. Angel Cop is more gritty and a whole lot less sexist while Mad Bull tries to be more tongue-in-cheek, but the rampant misogyny (that is anything but tongue-in-cheek) ruins most of the effect.

If you for some reason enjoyed either, check out the other. If you saw one and that it was trash but still want more, do yourself a favour and check out the other work.

Ghost in the Shell

While definitely more action-oriented than Ghost in the Shell, Angel Cop does share a sci-fi element, policital intrigue, and a certain "who can you trust?" theme with it. Angel Cop is lighter on the symbolism and underlying messages and focuses more on actual plot development and keeping the viewer excited and entertained.

Another futuristic political drama. If you like Angel Cop, you will love this.

Wild 7

Wild 7

Crime is rampant, politicians controlling the government are in the pockets of large crime syndicates, and the police are as good as the crook with a gun to the back of your head. What's a good official to do to stop criminals who are the law? The answer: make an elite force with the skills to stop any criminal, anywhere, anytime. this force is the Wild 7. Each member of this elite group has an extensive felony record and isn't afraid to add onto it, even if half the city has to pay for it.

Nihilistic special police forces that are here to dispense justice from the barrels of their guns is the name of the game here. Violence, evil mobsters, aggressive assholes with a badge, kicking OST, awesomely cheesy English dubs... The list of similarities ogoes on. If you liked one, you're likely to dig the other.

Nicknames Nicknames says...

Both are 90s OVA which feature cops delivering "justice" (AKA as many bullets as possible) to any evildoer who gets in their way. Angel Cop is more sci-fi oriented, but if you liked one and you are craving for more trashy fun then give the other a go.

Akira

Akira

Following the disaster wrought upon the world by a mysterious being called ‘Akira’, Neo Tokyo is now in social and economic turmoil. In such a decaying city, feisty Kaneda and his shy friend Tetsuo survive by running around in a biker gang, chasing local rivals and generally evading the police. Everything changes, however, when Tetsuo crashes into a strange-looking boy during a bike chase and the military ends up taking him away. When he eventually returns to his friends, he’s no longer the same weak little boy they always knew – in fact, a military experiment has turned him into something beyond human imagination. While the military is intent on reclaiming its specimen at any cost, Tetsuo is sick of being bullied around and is about to show everyone, including his friend Kaneda, exactly who is boss.

Akira and Angel Cop are sci-fi action titles that both revolve around characters with powerful psychic abilities. Angel Cop is the more straightforward of the two, but the atmosphere (and the violence) is rather similar to Akira.

Frost Frost says...

While heavier on the sci-fi, Bounty Dog also has the villian(s) shrouded in mystery with just a dash of the same political edge to it as Angel Cop. Both titles are generous with the amount of action they provide, though the characters in Bounty Dog are somewhat deeper than in Angel Cop.

Cyber City Oedo 808

Cyber City Oedo 808

In the year 2808, criminals are no longer just wasting space in prison cells. The Cyber Police have turned to using these “patrons” by giving them a choice. Their sentence, or to work with them to catch other criminals and knock some years off their sentence. But getting off easy isn't, as each criminal is fitted with booby trapped collar that operates on a 24 hour cycle, stopped ONLY if they capture their intended targets. As time runs out on each case, someone's head must roll... the target's, or their own!

Magraal Magraal says...

Angel Cop and Cyber City share many binding features, such as a government that's willing to do *anything* to get what it wants, a world in which society itself is the victim and a central character that begins to question their own involvement in events that are spiralling out of their control.

Both of these animes have high-tech gear and are sci-fi and investigation type animes. The most similar thing is the motor bikes and robotic forms of the protagonists.

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

Well, both shows are about cops, violence, evil organizations, moral nihilism, conspiracies and more violence. While Inferno Cop is totally superawesome and rad and just nuts and Angel Cop is a misanthropic, cynical and detestable anime, they both have pretty good entertainment values. If you liked the over the top aspects of one anime, you might want to do yourself a favour and check the other one out.

Doomed Megalopolis

Doomed Megalopolis

Tokyo: 1912. The imperial government begins to put in motion its plan to industrialize the capital so that it may take its place among the great cities of the modern world. The evil sorcerer Kato (who bears more than a passing resemblance to Street Fighter II's M Bison) would rather see Tokyo in ruins, and plans to resurrect the spirit of the warrior Taro Masakado to destroy the city. To do this he must possess the soul of a young girl with untapped supernatural powers, Yukari Tatsumiya. Various spiritual guardians try and fail to protect Yukari from his demonic powers, only for Kato's plan to be thwarted by the benign Masakado himself. Kato bides his time until he can use Yukari's daughter Yukiko to carry out the destruction on his own, but a new warrior appears to protect the Tatsumiya household: Keiko, an unassuming shrine maiden who wields the power of Heaven itself.

These two have very different plots but what makes them similar is their ultra violence and generally trashy tone. Full of violence, senseless gore and tons of action. Both have horrendous 90s dubs to laugh at as well.

Although the plots are different they do share the fact that the story is convoluted and completely ridiculous with most of the scenes making little sense in context to what is going on overall.

If you want some gore, some boob and lots of action then check out either of these titles.
