Both of them are situated on old fashion era of Japan and, of course, there is a Boy that can see spirits.

Somehow both of them, too, are funny and serious. With similar atmosphere and similar songs.

If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.

The main characters, style, and structure of the world are strikingly similar in both series.  It's like the crew of one show decided they liked the setting, art style, etc. so much, they decided to make the other, so it definitely feels like one is a continuation of the adventure that the other started.

Similar plot and setting. Both have a sort of demons and excorsism. Overall the essence of the two is similar while each has its own unique points.

The shows are similar in that they have very slashable action with the boys (the protagonists of both shows are also similarly laid-back) without excluding strong females, and on top of that there's a Japanese history mingling with the modern day using a supernatural medium.

There's that one boy who until recently has been living a normal life, but is suddenly teleportated into another world. At first everything is messed up, but after awhile he gets used to the new life. The thing is that apparently he is the chosen one to get rid of the evil that's hiding in the shadows. But all is well when it ends well! In both Kyo Kara Maoh! and Amatsuki we see the development of the lead male characters who are destined to bring peace and prosperity to the other world they suddenly appear in.

Both series have a person going into another world. That person, Yuri from kyou kara maou and Tokidoki from Amatsuki go into these  diferent world. Both are pretty simple animes, but that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't great.  Yokai show up in both with the main character(s) being able to see them with the plot surrounding this.  And the overall artwork/animation quality of these animes is amazing with attention to detail etc.

Both series take place in roughly the same time period, involve the extermination of ayakashi, and address similar themes.  However, Amatsuki is a lot more light-hearted and fun than TIAA.

KiraRin KiraRin says...

Throught Amatsuki, I was reminded of Tenpou Ibun. Both shows are set in the Edo period, and feature a heavy dose of demons and fantastical battles. Also looking at the political, there is quite a deep story to both.

However, I feel Amatsuki was too rushed and crammed too much into 13 episodes. I know TIAA was also unfinished, but it is far superior in many ways. Therefore this is a one way rec as I really think Amatsuki fans would love TIAA.

Amatsuki and Hakuouki share a surprising amount of similiar concepts. First of all, both take place in feudal Japan and intergrate history into their plotlines (moreso Hakuouki, since Amatsuki travels off into a more fictional plot). Both are very slow-paced, but entertaining (for example, comedic moments with Shinpachi and Heisuke in Hakuouki or Kon and Shamon in Amatsuki), even though there's plenty of talking. Also, mystery plays a big part in both, which hooks watchers into such slowly-paced shows as these. Overall, the shows are pratically blood siblings in every aspect but plot.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

The story setting of Feudal Japan is seen in both Amatsuki and Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan with intense fighting scenes and spirits popping out of nowhere.  There also happens to be an underlying layer of mystery shrouding the characters.

Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts

On the eve of nobleman Oz Bezarius's fifteenth birthday, he and his loved ones gather to celebrate in a coming-of-age ceremony. But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

Amatsuki and Pandora Hearts are similar in that from the premise you would expect tons of action but instead you get a complex mysterious show with lots of talking. Both series have a magical ablity to not really explain information to you but still make you feel like you understand what is happening. The main trio in both series are also similar. Toki from Amatsuki and Oz from PH are both people that never really thought about serious stuff and would always have a smile on their face. Kuchiha and Alice are both tough chicks that have a powerful animal inside them and Shinonome and Gilbert are both smart, hot guys that are constantly getting into fights with Kuchiha/Alice. Bascially if you liked one show for its dark, mysterious plot then you will like the other but don't accept a good ending from either.

The main characters both lived normal lives until 1 day something happened and they find them selves in a world different then their own, even though strange things are happening around them they decide to accept things as they are so they can hope to get on with their fun new life.

Both have demons and alternate dimensions and reckless 15-16 years old who always seem to surprise the people who worry about them the most with new powers.

Though Peace Maker Kurogane and Amatsuki aren't entirely similar (PMK legitimately takes place in the past, while Amatsuki is somewhat of a time travel scenario), they have a similar feel. Each has a blend of action and drama, and will probably appeal to the same fans.
