In both Chihayafuru and Aki no Kanade, energetic young girls develop an obsession for traditional Japanese things: Chihaya loves the game of karuta and Aki finds the taiko drums irresitible. Both of them aim their enthusiasm at others around them, getting their friends & classmates to participate. If you liked the way one of these shows portrayed young people & tradition, you might like the other too!

Both have enthusiastic leads who try their best to bring back some of the japanese traditions that they experianced when they were younger. They both get you to find out new things about a certain japanese art and there were similar developments between the characters as their bonds grow.  Even though the lenghts are very different if you liked one you should like the other.

Aki no Kanade is much shorter than Hana-saku Iroha but both have pretty similar aspects when it comes to traditions in Japan. They follow the story of an energitic young girl/woman who gets drawn into the world of this japanese tradition, in Aki no Kanade it's Taiko Drumming and in Hana-saku it is the idea of traditional bathhouses, both mains also aim to try and keep this tradition alive in one way or another. They also have drama and romance in small amounts so both are worth checking out, if you liked one you should check out the other.

Now you may think that this is really strange but both anime have people with a passion for music, you explore how they develop and the drama that may come inbetween the characters. Each of these anime follow a girl/woman in her journey to improve her skills in the music style she decides to follow, in Aki no Kanade it is Aki wanting to become professional with the Taiko drums and in K-on, Yui is developing her guitar skills so either way they are similar. And I think if you liked one make sure you check out the other xx
