Both are pretty much alike. Harem. Love triangle. The lead characters grow up during the series. Short. If you like one, consider the other.
They both have the same kind of elements love, love triangle and betrayal. When I think of one I can't help but think of the other.

Kimi no Iru Machi is very much reminiscent of Bokura ga Ita. Both tell tales of bittersweet & confusing high school romances where it takes a lot to make them work, especially when real life, past relationships, and other challenges keep cropping up. If you liked the atmosphere in one, I think you'd really like the other as well.
Shinichiro Nakagami is an everyday high school student, with the exception of having his beautiful and athletic childhood friend Hiromi Yuasa living in his household after the death of her parents. Unfortunately, their relationship is cold at best - Shinichiro can tell that she is suffering, but she acts coldly and distant from her foster family and so he is unable to help ease her sadness. His family is also forcing him to practice a traditional Japanese dance that does not interest him, adding to his frustration. On top of that, he is cursed to misfortune by another girl in school, the eccentric Noe Isurugi. Shinichiro juggles all of these problems on a day-to-day basis as he learns about love and the sadness of those around him.
If you liked either True Tears or Kimi no Iru Machi, you'll probably like the other. They have a similar feel & similar themes, with plenty of melodramatic relationship angst. If you like sad love stories, these two are for you.

Both shows are fundementally built on the childhood friend love triangle archetype. Where golden time explores the archetype with the introduction of amnesia, A town where you live approaches the moral and idea of "You can't control who you love" in a emotion-evoking, unique method.

Both shows feature cohabilitation between main characters which lead to romance. Kimikiss approaches this idea with lackluster relationships which end up falling out, and A town where you live focuses more on the idea of not controlling who you truly love.

This movie, which is a follow-up to the plot of the classic 80's series, details how each of the characters is coming to grips with their feelings for each other and where they are headed in their future. Unique storytelling wraps around the plot to give you a deeper understanding of the situation.
