A Lull in the Sea - Reviews

This is one of the very few anime I will give perfect marks to. Everything about it was spectacular. It was very immersive as I felt my emotions sway as if it were a ship over troubled water. The openings and endings were so peaceful, and framed the show rather well. The only problem I had witch characters was in the first episode. Hikari was acting like a jerk (something that in real life would have worked, despite logic) but as the character grew and developed, I got over it.

I'm always trying to watch myself so that I don't give spoilers, but although I personally wanted things to end differently, the ending was a masterpiece. I highly recommend anyone to put this at the top of their "to watch" list

Nice anime. Thank god no eechi.........so atleast can watch with anybody. The theme of the story is really good and practical. People who love to watch anime ireespective of their genre will surely love. Watch at least once for the story.

Story

Nagi no Asukara is a refreshing story about change and love. I found it to be particularly powerful because those two themes are what people are typically most afraid of. The way the story was developed succeeded in translating the feelings that were portrayed. The fact that this anime touches topics across two different worlds per say and also across time makes it a very powerful one. I was hesitant to watch this anime for quite some time as I think the description given in this site does not properly communicate what this anime is about. Needless to say I am happy I gave it a try as I was not disappointed. In summary, the story strong points include the themes that are explored, the originality of the work, and how well the story was developed. The only complaint I have is that the first 13 episodes or so go by way too slowly, but after that, it picks up and you will not be able to stop watching. Likewise, there were some inconsistencies with the plot that leave you wondering further, but nothing major. I also loved the fact that the story extends to a longer period of time beyond the high school years.

Animation/Sound

The animation was outstanding, what a beautiful design of the characters and their surroundings! The director also made a beautiful job developing the story using the graphics to add power to the animation. The sea world was very nicely developed with vibrant colors and the distinction between the sea world and the surface was very well done. The music themes were good, I enjoyed the soundtracks that were used as well, they were mellow and nice.

Characters

As far as the characters, I truly fell in love with all of them. In my opinion, the characters do not change as much as their surroundings but this just emphasizes that the characters personalities can remain the same while still showing some personal growth. This is particularly important because it adds credibility to the story and makes it more relatable. The fact that the characters are faced with their own selfishness (which is human nature) is very amazing, I was tired of anime that shows characters living for others and not showing any envy or selfishness as this is not realistic in my opinion. My personal favorites were without a doubt Chisaki and Tsumugu; they are very different from the rest of the characters especially after what happened that fateful day.

Overall

I cannot say I was satisfied with the ending of the anime and I could probably guess the manga adds more depth to it as well. Either way I found this anime to be very unique in many ways and highly entertaining. It appeals to your feelings while keeping it “realistic” or so to speak. I recommend it to those who enjoy a good romance/friendship story and are wanting an original work.

From what I learned in this anime is that some things may change but can still be the same know what I mean?

A very good anime with completely bad ending. This anime deserves only 3 stars.
