Both of these are Slice of life dramas that follow children.

Only Yestrday is mostly like flashbacks and recalls a woman looking at her past. I want to Win 5th Place is the hardships of a young girl who battles the odds as she gets into running with setbacks.

Both are slice of life, and envict emotions at times.

Both deal with a disabled child heading into elementary and being bullied for being different. Both involve bullies who lash out for similar reasons. Both are ultimately films for children aimed at helping them understand more about bullying and disability.

Both series are films aimed at children that discuss serious themes. In Re-Birthday's case, it discusses domestic abuse and bullying. In 5-tou ni Naritai, the focus is more on bullying. Re-birthday focuses more on how this emotionally affects children, but both showcase why this behaviour is wrong. Both films also discuss disability, which isn't a common theme in anime.
