Both of these contain plenty of romance and they both tell a story about love that cannot be fulfilled.  Both are very touching and heart-wrenching and I think if you like one you would most certainly like the other

These are both slow-paced, romantic, short movies without that much of a plot. Despite that, they still manage to keep your attention all the way. Even though 5 cm has a lot better animation, the colours used are similiar. If you like one, you should try the other.

when i compare Blue Drop with 5 Centimeters per Second the only things that come to my mind is the doomed relationship aspect, like an impossible love and the overwhelming drama, melancholic aspect of this two animes (which are turning into tragedies in the end). In other aspects this shows are pretty different, while Blue Drop focuses on a girl love relationship and has sci-fi aspect is pretty predominant, 5 Centimeters per Second focuses on a normal male to female love relationship. Still if you liked one of this two animes then im sure you will enjoy the other one as well.

both Byousoku 5 Centimeter and Saikano have the same sad, tragic, melancholic mood, both of them feature a impossible love relationship between main protagonists (in Saikano the love relationship is impossible because of a war that occures while in Byousoku 5 Centimeters the love is impossible because of the distance between the main protagonists). If you enjoyed the sadness, misery and melancholy in one of this show then be sure to check the other one as well.

Both of these anime were very short, yet managed to portray a very remarkable story. These series, aside from their amazing story telling and character development, also have great artwork and a notable soundtrack.

At first glance this recommendation might seem a bit odd, but these two titles share a vital similarity NOT in the content of their stories, but in how their stories are executed.

Many people disparage Gedo Senki in the same way they disparage 5 Centimeters per Second: "There's no plot! Nothing happens!" However, anyone who has enjoyed either Gedo Senki or 5 Cm. knows that you don't re-watch and love these movies just "for the story." You watch it because its beauty touches you. In both titles, the story takes a backseat, and the audience is instead treated to a gorgeous tone poem. You sit back and let the mood, the gorgeous animation, and evocative music sweep over you. Basically, Gedo Senki and 5 Centimeters are both wondrous examples of pure anime impressionism. Both films have something to say, but that something is not so much solid words as a paintstroke of colors and emotions.

Each of these series have a strong emphasis how sad life can be as you progress through it, in all aspects. 5 CM/S is a lot more melancholic and less comedic than H&C, but each series definitely have that melancholy centered strongly around love and growing up there.

High budget, quality animation is hard to come by, both of these are animated in a way that they create a beautiful environment for their storys to unfold in. If you were a fan of the animation in either of these titles, you should be sure to check out the other.
