Gokicha!! Cockroach Girls

Gokicha!! Cockroach Girls

Cockroaches Gokicha and Chaba move from Kanto to Hokkaido, giving their newly-found life experiences from the perspective of this indestructible insect. Though others see them only as squashable nuisances, these vermin are personified using young female faces and voices, as they open their misunderstood world to us in their own uniquely cute way.

Both of these anime have a very similar plot. In each, a girl is trying to get the attention of others, and while they look human to the viewer, to other humans in the anime they are bugs that needs to be killed!

The Secret World of Arrietty

The Secret World of Arrietty

For nearly fourteen years, Arrietty has lived with her parents under the floorboards of a house. As 'tiny people', the family must remain hidden from humans, 'borrowing' items from them such as postage stamps or herbs to cook with. Arrietty is old enough to borrow for the first time, and alongside her father, the two explore the house in search of tissue and sugar. But when the pair is spotted by Sho, a boy who is visiting his great aunt, Arrietty's parents fear for their safety. However, unlike her family, Arrietty is convinced that not all humans are dangerous, and together she and Sho form an unlikely friendship.

20min Walk From Nishi-Ogikubo Station and Karigurashi no Arrietty has one obvious thing in common. Both revolve around people shrunk to miniature size. While this is not enough for a mere recommendation, there is a romantic aspect in both shows which are expressed differently but have a somewhat similar message. Karigurashi no Arrietty's is more fleshed out due to length of the movie and presents its message in typical ghibli fashion.

One word of caution is that 20min Walk From Nishi-Ogikubo Station is more explicit and has actual full frontal nudity while Karigurashi is strictly ALL AGES. 20min Walk From Nishi-Ogikubo Station is essentially the short, mature version of Karigurashi.
