I like anime.
I feel compelled to be egotistical and give my top 10 list as these are animes i feel are utterly amazing. They may not be for everyone, but as its a personal list, here goes...
1. Hayate no Gotoku!
2. Shakugan no Shana
3. Okami to Koushinryou
4. Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuuutsu
5. Kaiba
6. Claymore
7. Darker than Black
8. Ergo Proxy
9. CLANNAD
10. Either FMA, Baccano!, Zero no Tsukaima, or Toradora or Soul Eater when i finish them
The last few entries are bound to be rearranged and changed. There are so many animes around and a lot probably more deserving to be on the list too, but as my thoughts atm that's my list.
Though I highly doubt anything will ever knock Hayate no Gotoku! off... though i have a feeling i may have to clarify that i love the SynergySP series rather than the JC Staff one :(

since you asked... :P 'The Third: Girl with the Blue Eye' would probably be my biggest recommendation to you. '12 Kingdoms' ranks up there and maybe even 'Utawarerumono'. The Third and Utawarerumono are in my top 5, 12 Kingdoms is in my 20 list somewhere.

Great Anime List!
You've got some rather interesting and varried tastes for someone so "new" to anime. Great top 8 so far, I'd give you some recommendations but I have a feeling you'll come across them eventually if you haven't already.

I'm only a few episodes into Shakugan no Shana and I can already see the clear similarities to Shikabane Hime. I can't believe you're the only other person to make that connection. I'd compliment you on good awareness, but I guess that'd be self-serving.
