I have been watching anime on and off for 15 years. Never one to engross myself too heavily in any one thing anime has always provided me with a certain solace. That being said I'm not a "weeboo" or "animoo" I'm just an ordinary guy who enjoys anime along with a cluster of other things. You can hardly call me the trendiest of anime viewers, but I get around to just about anything that travels by ear in the community.
There are strict provisions which I follow when deciding what I want to waste my time on, and I will list some of the anime criteria which is important to me. First of all, but not always most importantly, a good story is the cornerstone of a good anime. IRL I enjoy thrillers & mysteries, so you can gather how this translates to my fandom of anime. If the storyline isn't strong then my other criteria must be met at an exceptionally high standard. I'm not proud, so I'll give almost anything a shot as long as its good, and this ranges from the magical girl genre to the most tense of slice-of-life dramas.
Good animation gets me everytime. Rest assured the higher the quality of the animation the more enjoyment I will recieve from the anime. This is a deciding factor, if not "the" deciding factor, when it comes to discerning what I will want to watch in terms of anime. Once again, I'm not proud, so I've enjoyed anime with lack luster animation if it's backbone consisted of a good story.
I am a fan of music, I devour everything first with my ears, and leave the rest to be digested later; likewise, while a good soundtrack is substantively less important than a good story or good animation it goes a long way with me. Reading up on my favorite anime composers often entails me to check out their latest projects, so understandably if I like a specific composer I may watch a project they worked on. Yoko Kanno spoiled me at a young age with Cowboy Bebop, and this raised my standards for music in anime, so a bad soundtrack can turn me off as quickly as subpar animation and a weak story.
If those criteria are met then there is little in the way of satisfaction for me. As a member of anime-planet for three years I seek to give to my community. If you find me interesting great, if you find me boring then I don't blame you. I'm a little on the serious side, and probably too senstive to live on this planet. If you're still reading this then you have waaaaaaay too much time on your hands.
