REGARDING MY SCORES FOR ANIME
While it may seem odd that I rank some very brief OVAs or even web animations more highly than a fairly good TV shows like Bakemonogatari, this is not because the former is better than the latter; rather, I rate each work based on how it compares to its closest thematic and chronological analogues.
I rate things in this way because comparing anime from 20 years ago with the anime of today results in unfair criticisms of both shows being compared. 20 years ago, an anime would not have been judged by those used to seeing high budget productions in 720p as we do today; likewise, to criticize modern productions for following trends and reusing story elements first established 20 years prior is also an unfair criticism, because it doesn't always detract from the quality of the show itself;
Furthermore, comparing anime between genres/demographics is also a hazarous practice, as personal bias regarding a genre/demographic can cloud the judgement of the critic. So, I'll be rating each show for what it tries to be, taking into account when it was made and how it compares to similar works.
I will sometimes be rating shows from the perspective of someone who is familiar with the source material [like Guin Saga and Fate/Stay Night]. This I will clarify in proper reviews if I ever bother to compose any.
My priorities when rating anime:
However, if even one of these is particularly bad, it can still ruin a series.
