In the beginning there was the word. And then another word, and another. On the second day, the sentence was born, on the third, the paragraph. By the seventh day there were more words than the stars in the sky.

And I'd still top that if you let me talk your ear off.

Now that you've said 'real human drama', that's got me intrigued. Maybe if you said less about things being pretentious and more about there being human drama, I'd follow your recs. Haha. I'm starting to get to this stage where nothng surprises me and nothing makes me care anymore. Nobody'll convince me that Gunslinger Girl is in any way relevant, no matter how 'deep' it is. LOTGH was a real surprise because I thought it'd take me a year to watch, and I was prepared to maybe do two eps a week at most... something dry, pretentious, irritatingly in love with its setting... something like Twelve Kingdoms (I hope Sheex reads this). And everyone was gonna tell me how amazing it was while I just squinted and had to pretend I cared about its historical significance. But not at all. Turned out to have all the things I love about storytelling, let alone anime: excellent drama, fantastic real human characters, and a political story that's as relevant today as it was back then. Do you mind me waffling on your profile? Because I'm in a waffling mood. In fact, the waffling is helping me not get all morose today. Eh. Don't ask me why I'd be morose; it's just the side of the bed on which I got up this morning... and the side of the chair I'm sitting on right now.

Here's the thing. Horror is my fourth least liked anime genre. :(

I will watch it one day. But to turn my attentions to unusual anime, I'll need to take my fill of more mainstream stuff. Honestly, I'd rather gouge my eye out than watch something pretentious just because it can put on airs and graces that make it look more intelligent than it actually is. X TV, for example, is far from ingenius, but it's fun, and I'll take that any day over something that's trying really hard to intimidate me with vacuous nonsense.

Hmmm... the more I think about it, the more I believe I'm starting to resent anything described as 'intelligent' and/or 'deep'. Urgh. Or today I'm just in a contrary mood. Bah.

The problem is I don't really want to watch something people have hyped anymore. I realise, as with Gunslinger Girl, it just puts me off before I've even watched it. I'm going to wait for a time when I'm really not needing to watch/review anything except just to enjoy it on its own merits, and nobody's mentioned the word 'NHK' in a long time. Same with Mononoke. Just don't want to because people keep saying it's good. Lol.
