From the New World

Jul 11, 2013

WARNING: Do not watch this if you do not like to think while watching anime. This show has so much going on and has so much to teach that it can get confusing. Thinking and or reflection may be required. To begin with, this is not your ordinary anime, do not expect something you've seen a hundred times. This story is colossal, brutal, and sensative in meaningful ways. This review may have minor spoilers but that is due to the pacing of the show. Since each new development in the show is so important and constantly building off of a central plot line, in order for you to hear about anything past the... See full review

Mushishi

Jun 3, 2013

Good old fashioned story telling. Mushishi is something not everybody will like, it is slow, doesn’t have a lot of action, and no panty shots; it is different from a lot of anime out there. That being said, Mushishi spends its time in the moment, building a story, ending a story, and doing it all over again. This show can be watched out of order if necessary. Each episode is something special to be enjoyed. The characters are not the flamboyant characters you usually see in anime however; there are some really unique characters here, primarily Ginko, the stories protagonist. Our hero sticks to his... Howl's Moving Castle

Aug 23, 2012

The story develops and changes as the movie goes on. I won't spoil anything but the stroy progresses along with the characters through a sense of harmonization that binds the two aspects together. It looks a tiny bit old but with the style of the castle and the environments around them you can't complain. The theme is so unforgettable and moving. It feels as though it comes from the characters themselves and matches with them exactly as a song should. The characters grow quickly and always have more to them than meets the eye. Learning more about each character shows the depth hidden within them... See full review

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion

Nov 23, 2012

Masterpiece. Must watch the series first. The end of the show was a bit confusing. The movie is a bit confusing as well and creates new questions but it answers many bigger questions. This makes really wants you to look at yourself and think HARD. Thank Jebus for that! If you've seen the show, it is pretty much a better and more thought out ending. I essentially consider this a part of the show, not a standalone movie thingy. Keep that is mind and enjoy!

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Nov 23, 2012

The real quality that makes this anime an instant favorite of mine is the way in which it asks questions; questions about trust, questions about who we are, questions about what made us the way we are. These questions are not something most shows push for. The anime starts out pretty slow and the English voice acting may be bad but somehow becomes more comfortable in time. The animation is a little dated but still surprisingly good in some parts (especially later on). The music is soft, lots of piano and violins. Later in the series classical music is incorporated and it is a gloriously majestic... See full review

Princess Jellyfish

Aug 27, 2012

This anime contucts itself the way an anime should. It introduces you to the characters present but allows them to be apart of something bigger while maintaining their quarky roles. The story actually has a progession to it, there isn't a moment of epiphany where everything makes since, everything happens over the time, just like in real life. The story places itself around the characters and the two develop in unison pushing each other forward with baby steps. The characters all look fastly different and you'll rarly mix characters up. Everything is smooth and looks excellent, this works with the... See full review

Cowboy Bebop

Nov 27, 2011

Cowboy Bebop has been around for a long time but I only just got around to watching it. I remember a little bit of it playing on cartoon network when I was little but it didn't really make much sense to me at the time. Now that I've watched it all the way through I think it is spectacular. The Story follows a group of characters around the universe as they hunt bountys. Remnants of the characters past get mixed in from time to time and sort of take over the story. One thing that is strange about this anime is that it really shines in the epidoes that aren't connected, which many many animes try to do and... See full review

Clannad

Oct 12, 2011

I would call this primarily a drama, with comedy in it, not a harem or ecchi. This is legit. SO legit. Do not watch this unless you are legit, do not watch this if you can't handle anime on a serious level, return to your mediocrity and resume watching anime without substance or a deeper meaning. Now that we have that out of the way lets start with visuals. Beautiful. The best anime I have ever EVER orver seen! So legit. The little details, the skills transitions, the little manouvers they put so much effort into creating but use only when absolutely neccessary as not to ruin the experience. The little... Samurai Champloo

Jan 26, 2011

This is best suited for people who don't watch anime much, I've gotten quite a few friends into this who normally stay away from anime. Its really easy to jump in anywhere and enjoy. I would call this afro samurai before afro samurai. The stroy isn't that important (until the end) most episodes are stand alone. Some are wacky, which is important to take all the pressure off of the action, which brings me to my next point. The best action I have EVER seen in an anime! Smooth, well thought out, fast, and very visually appealing.  The music is very important to the flow of the anime and... See full review

Gungrave

Jan 26, 2011

One of my personal favorites. I do reccomend skipping the first episode, its makes things a little confusing and gives away some of the story. This anime has a mobster, type of feel for probably 2 3rds of the anime. The characters are great, the story is great, the character development, at times can feel jarring! Towards the end it has more of a supernatural feel. Please please watch, great action, great great great character relationships and development, and drama included. 9/5/10

Powerful. More than once my jaw dropped. Sadly enough its only 13 episodes but an amazing 13. There is not just blood and gore (although there is a lot) there is also some drama and other elements that help balance the anime.

If you have an open mind, please please watch, i don't want to ruin anything, so I won't be saying anything else. If blood doesn't bother you watch this immediately and enjoy. One of my absolute favorites! 9.5/10

Paranoia Agent

Oct 24, 2013

Introduction Warning, this anime is different. It is very different. It is not for everybody. It is slow and thought out and complex. It may be a bumpy ride if you are prepared to zone out and not use your brain. This anime is best to not watch alone, talking it out can help plus this is so crazy you'll want to share the experience with a friend. That being said, The real review begins now. Animation It looks pretty good, it really does. It is terribly honest in its style and has older folks actually looking wrinkly and saggy. Sometimes the animation shows some flaws but... Clannad After Story

Oct 12, 2011

(minor spoilers?) Part 2 of the Clannad lifetime, if you've made it this far you should live happily knowing something as special as Clannad exists.See my review for Clannad, not much in the terms of technical aspects has changed however the story has a lot. Prepare for an anime that actually continues outside of high school and travels through the real world. Story is similar to the first Clannad however it spends more time on stories of minor characters, these are totally awesome, outside experiences that wouldn't have made their way into the anime otherwise. Some of these are a lot of fun, some left me... See full review

Read Or Die TV

Sep 11, 2011

Excellent. Now that we've established that... Read or die follows three sisters and an popular author. The author looks for an old friend and continues to write. The three sisters are paper masters, this basically means they can manipulate paper to do awesome crazy stuff (think green lantern except he needs lots of paper and the skills to manipulate it properly). During the story the sister will randomly have their own episodes where they go on missons, these seem random but hold purpose later. Characters. Are great! Real, authentic, believeable and honest. Most mesh well together but the ones that... See full review

Baccano!

Aug 7, 2012

Complex, elaborate, and legit. Baccano throws you around and around and expects you to eventually follow. Expect lots of characters and lots of time changes. The animation looks good and the english voices are just about all fantastic. The characters are always consistant and react great when put near each other. The music is a lot of fun. Just about everything about this is great. It would easily thrive in just about any form of media.  9.3/10

Aug 28, 2013

Oh man. Really didn't know what to expect going into this. I had no idea I was walking into a dinosaur anime movie. What a great surpise. This story is really touching to all ages, it has a tone about it that is easy to relate to. If you have two hours and some friends (or not, that's cool too) you shouldn't be reading this review, you should be watching that movie. This movie is super delightful! Give it a chance sometime, you may be pleasantly surpised.

This show is exceptional! The story/ environment is so much fun. It is a strange world full of questions and new ways of living. This anime is short and that is good! This anime does what it needs to and closes itself without going on forever and ever. I don't want to ruin anything for you so I'll say that this show is well thought out and legitamate, it looks, sounds, and feels great! Watch this. 9/10 for a great experience all the way/

GANTZ

Jan 25, 2011

Let me explain a little, my friend threw this on my harddrive, I knew nothing about it, other than it had some noteriety. My other friend and I were hanging out and he wanted to watch some anime, we started it, and finished all of it that night and the next day, we couldn't stop watching. Also, note, this anime is for more mature audiences, has nudity and lots of blood/gore. Gantz...is... amazing. Let me start with praise, this anime does things animes (and every other media) are afraid to do. Without giving away spoilers, it takes an interesting approach that other medians of media are afraid to do... See full review

Nabari no Ou

Jan 26, 2012

Story=ninja's except it's not terrible and chilidish and isn't afraid to have people die. Enough said. I really liked the style of animation this show incorperates. If you pay attention to the backgrounds you'll understand what I mean, some look like still frames of painting, very pretty. Besides that The animtion looks really good and so does the combat, no crappy suspended pictures, the fights actually look like fights and not still shots of special moves. I really really like the intro and outro. The music for the credits was mighty. I watched this in english (on netflix) therefore my... See full review

Spoiler Free Inspection
Big Tits, Comedy, Drama, Random References to other anime, and the quiet pain of solitude. The events of the world are linked to the source of fortune each individual has. One individual seems to have far too much and the gods see fit to recalibrate the balance. Beautiful animation, pumped up jams, and variation make this anime enjoyable visually and musically with what seems like no effort. The story hindges on the characters, which could be more fleshed out, but still develop in their own manner. Bottom line, this anime is funny. However, it does get touchy feely... See full review

Jun 16, 2011

This anime is fantastic. Okay, for those still reading lets dive into this review! There are certain patterns I see in a lot of anime's that I am sick of seeing, and I get sad when an anime falls into these patterns but somethimes they manage to break free, which makes me oh so happy. Pattern number 1: guy accidentally wanders into a bad place, gets killed, resurrected, and then joins forces with who ever saved him. Pattern number 2: Girl moves in with guy, que sexual tension Pattern number 3: Give protagonist awesome powers, make each episode stand alone and have him always with with these powers These... Outlaw Star

Mar 3, 2012

This anime is fun. Period. I missed it when growing up and decided I needed to go back and see what all the fuss was about. Turns out this anime is great. It captures that sense of heroic glory every kid wants growing up. The story is basically a man comes into possession of a ship and is for searching goes on a huge treasure hunt. The animation is kinda old (it is currently 2012) but it still looks good and gets a little better after episode 13. The music is a lot of. It fits the feel of the anime very well. 5 Centimeters per Second

Nov 15, 2013

Life is hard. Life is not fair. Life still has moments of undying beauty that can change your life even if the ending doesn't go as you intend. This anime is a bit of a niche for a number of reasons. One being it is a collection of short stories, most anime don't operate that may. Two being the theme of the short stories, Distance. Many shows deal with distance but usually not in a manner as focused as this anime. Three being it is a slow paced show, one without action that says a lot with setting and music.
The stories presented here are touching. Spoilers, they are also hard to handle for some... See full review

Death Billiards

Aug 28, 2013

Death Billiards is only one episode long, but that one episode does a pretty good job of defining itself. Two individuals find themselves in an odd situtation with odd consequnces. Ladies and Gentleman, the game is billiards. This show looks great at every moment. Sound and music work well and overall the presentation is great. The characters are a little bit bleak but it is to be expected when characters only have one episode be explored. I think this show would work better an a one episode experience over a whole show but that is because the premise is a bit hard to work with. Overall this is short, but... See full review

Aug 23, 2012

The animation looks really good except for some weird angles from swords and things. If you pay close attention you can see that it is slightly flawed but aside from that it looks great and combat when it is around, is entertaining and pretty legit. The sound and music is solid. The characters get along really well and are pretty well thought out. The story starts out confusing because it starts near the end and then backtracks which is really the best way to handle what happens. It is done well. There are a few moments that make no sense. At one point a character comments on the unnecessary... See full review

Afro Samurai Resurrection

*Please see my review for afro samurai becasuse it's mostly the same thing* Take the afro samurai show, end it and then bring it back in the bloodbath that is afro samurai resurrection. This installment now includes Lucy Lu (sorry if that is spelt wrong) is the english dub version. This is a great anime to ease people into anime with if they aren't already fans. This is, exactly what you'd expect if you've seen the first, only slightly better, it succeeds is what it tries to do, which is fast stylized combat and fat beats to back it up. Afro Samurai

Jun 16, 2011

One of the best animes for getting new people into anime. It's overly stylized visual aspect tends to capture the attention of people normally pushed away from anime, the Samul l Jackson english dub also gives newbies a familiar voice to grab onto and feel more comfortable, and finally the western influenced music (mostly rap, i think da rizza or however you spell that, did the soundtrack) connects everything while maintaining solid background noise. The story is fairly weak, but the animation and sound/music are enough to make up for it. Characters aren't horrible and ninja ninja is... See full review

Resident Evil: Degeneration

Jun 1, 2011

Story: Zombies and big corperations and guns and stuff! Animation: Very different than the normal stlye you expect from anime, It pretty much looks like one big cut scene from resident evil 5. Sound: Sets the mood and follows it well. Characters: Leon S Kennedy is a bad ass. Probably the only dude I can think of that can pull off that dreamy swoopy emo boy hair cut. Don't mess with him. Clare Redfield is some pretty sweet back up for him too Overall: Very few things like this, if anything it's fun to watch because it is so different. Sweet action and animation! Worth watching! Adorable cats, some sweet effects, expressions always spot on, comical style is done super well and highlights what is necessary. Sound: I really like the intro, not only the sound but also the actual happenings. The outro is better than most too but isn't as glorious. The animation looks great and occationaly incorperates some 3D animation. Some of the textures look different and look really interesting. The music always fits as they intend. The characters are delightful and their own, some will even surprise. If you love wine, rome, or other cultures you will enjoy this! It is however a tiny bit slow.
