BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense.

Nov 15, 2020

While it certainly isn't the best OP MC anime out there, seeing the hijinks of the MC in each episode was weirdly fun. Also, the chats at the end of each episode are great.

Aki Sora

Oct 5, 2020

Anime was a mistake. Or rather, incest-anime was. This one in particular, because there's really nothing good about this OVA except for the fact that it's short. And I guess the female MC's character design is kinda attractive? Apart from that we only get a very barebones story to show how a brother and sister end up having sex, all so we can have an extended sex scene between the two of them. And when I say extended, I mean it: it's almost 5 minutes of the 20 that are left if you don't count the end credits. And that's without counting earlier almost-sex-scenes. So yeah, don't expect too much from this... See full review

Takane no Jitensha

Oct 4, 2020

Takane’s Bicycle is a short animation that isn’t really noteworthy of interesting in any way. It has a runtime of 25 minutes in which it tries too many things and fails to really do anything well. It tries to give a message, which kinda succeeds but doesn’t really hit home due to the rushed ending of the story. It also tries to have a bit of that “Ghibli-feeling” at some point, but that lasts all of 30 seconds before the magic is gone. While the setup would be okay for a movie that lasts an hour, 15 minutes of setup before the main attraction arrives is way too long in a short... See full review

Ichi the Killer: Episode 0

Oct 3, 2020

Quite a long while ago, I read the manga Ichi the Killer. Not much of it really stuck with me, except for the abundance of ultra-violent scenes and other messed up stuff. There were also some very memorable characters, most of all the main character: a messed-up crybaby who is also a psychopathic killer. And this OVA is basically his origin story. So yeah, if you didn’t expect this yet: the OVA is full of violence as well, plus some highly disturbing sexual content, bullying, animal abuse and other stuff to mask the rather unimpressive plot, which honestly doesn’t do much extra to explain how... Wakako-zake

Oct 3, 2020

I'm honestly not sure what to say about this show. It's a series of shorts about a woman who goes to eat things and drinks some alcohol with it. Nothing worthwhile really happens, but the episode is done before you really get the chance to get bored. There isn't even any comedy or anything, making me wonder who decided to make this show. Visuals are basic but okay, except the MC looks quite ugly in most shots. Sound is basic but okay, but I didn't like MC's voice and the Pshuu sounds were grating to me. Overall: meh, I don't recommend it. While it won't be a huge waste of time, you can definitely do... See full review

One Piece Movie 14: Stampede

May 17, 2020

Let me preface this review by saying that I'm a huge fan of One Piece. I'm up to date with the manga, watched over 800 episodes of the anime, and watch basically every movie or OVA of the franchise. But while I very much loved the last 3 movies (especially Strong World and Film Z), Stampede was honestly a tad disappointing. Story/characters I mean, it is very much a "fanservice" movie (not in the erotic sense, mind you) and while that would normally be perfect for me, the execution just didn't do it for me. There are dozens of old characters who return to the screen, such as the entire Worst... See full review

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Apr 29, 2020

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is a manga by Gotouge Koyoharu, published in Weekly Shounen Jump and adapted into an anime by ufotable in 2019. When the manga started in 2016, I picked up as well. It wasn’t all that popular at the time though, and I personally also found it quite rough, making me drop the series after about 15 chapters. When the anime aired in 2019, however, it became so popular that I decided to give it a try as well. And man, was this ever a satisfying binge-watch for me. Story-wise, this is a very competently executed “dark shounen” about a boy who – as... See full review

Bayonetta: Bloody Fate

Mar 20, 2017

This movie is pretty shit: the plot is pretty much nonsense and half the cast is pointless and irritating. But the animation is good, so it's good-looking shit. The fights are ridiculously oversexualized - although for the final battle (which has some ridiculous S&M stuff) that actually makes it kinda funny. Speaking of fights, they added some fights at moments where a discussion would have worked just as well, since none of the parties were intent on killing the other. Music is mediocre - not bad, but not exactly good either and most of the time unfitting. Overall: I recommend only watching this... See full review

Wild Cardz

Mar 1, 2017

Wild Cardz / JaJa Uma! Quartet is a fantasy action anime about 4 magical girls who have to fight a randomly appearing gigantic chess piece. I say randomly here, and I really mean randomly, as in the way every character or story element is introduced randomly.  Of course, a 50-minute movie doesn't have the luxury to expand too much on every little thing, but there should at least be some basics: the start of the show made me think it was a sci fi show, so the sudden magic was a bit odd. And speaking of the magic, the way it works isn't explained either. Most fantasy series at least have some... See full review

Arata-naru Sekai

Feb 16, 2017

This was really confusing, and some research led me to the reason for that: apparently there's a manga and a light novel which respectively tell the story of the ones who go to the past and the story of those who stay in the "present", and you need to read and watch the 3 entries to get the entire story. But then the manga and LN don't have a translation so that's impossible...   As for the OVA: the story is really all over the place. Sending a couple of girls in high school uniform to the future so they can try and save the world might seem like a fantastic plan (it isn't), but nothing... See full review

FLIP FLAPPERS

Dec 29, 2016

For me personally, Flip Flappers earned a couple of titles: Anime of the Season in Fall 2016, Anime of the Year 2016 and, most notably, Surprise of the Year 2016. Because I really didn't expect to enjoy this show to this extent. I mean, looking back at the fact that I almost dropped it after episode 2 still makes me shudder at the thought of missing this experience.  - I tried to keep spoilers at a minimum - Story So, what the flip is this anime about anyway? Well simply put, it's about the "normal girl" Cocona, who gets dragged to a weird alternate world called Pure... See full review

Gakuen Handsome

Nov 3, 2016

Since this anime is so underrated and the only other review has rated it badly too, I figured it's my job to advertise this anime a little: it's really not as bad as it may seem at first glance. In fact, it's pretty glorious. Gakuen Handsome is a short episode comedy series based on a visual novel, which parodies common tropes found in BL manga/anime/VNs etc.  Story and characters It's hard to talk about the story when it's really just a setting for jokes. In any case, a boy transferring to an all-boys school and learning about (gay) love does not sound all that spectacular. But it's a good setting... See full review

The Sensualist

A man walks into a bar, has sex, and leaves. And that's about all I can tall about the "story" here. Some of the visual references to dicks and vags were funny, and the artstyle was rather unique, but that's about it. 3/10

Kaze no Matasaburou (2016)

Sep 20, 2016

This is a nice short movie. It was slow and relaxing without boring me. Making all side characters animals was a nice twist, the music was nice and I loved the artstyle. You could say the story doesn't really go anywhere, but I didn't really mind that and I didn't expect much in the first place since it's so short. Overall, an 8/10.

Noblesse: Pamyeol-ui Sijak

Sep 6, 2016

Noblesse: The Beginning of Destruction is a 37-minute prequel to the popular webcomic Noblesse. That might make you think it's ok to watch this first, but I would not recommend doing that: it's more an "extra" for the people who read the manhwa, rather than a stand-alone movie. Story and characters The OVA shows why Raizel and Muzaka ended up fighting, and how their fight went. There's really not all that much information given: if you're going in without any knowledge, the presence of werewolves and Nobles must be really confusing. Then... See full review

huge disappointment after season one: season two has less cool stuff and worldbuilding, and more harem shenanigans. The antagonists are boring, and the sdf is still OP, making confrontations boring (seeing them sweep through the enemy is cool for a couple of times, but gets boring fast)

Kekko Kamen

Feb 23, 2016

Before starting this anime, I wasn't actually expecting anything good. Heck, it was chosen as an event for the Damn, That Anime is Bad club for a reason, and going by the only two reviews this site had at the time - one scoring it 1.5/10, the other 5/10 - and the average AP-score of less than 1.8/5, you shouldn't expect anything grand. Add to that the ridiculous premise, and your hopes for anything good would probably be very small or even non-existent (unless you think tons of sexual content automatically makes an anime... Noblesse: Awakening

Feb 5, 2016

When I saw this anime existed, I was really happy. Not necessarily because I'm such a huge fan of the Noblesse manhwa (I like it enough to keep reading it, but don't think it's all that amazing). No, I was more excited about this because there are lots of good manhwa/webtoons that I'd love to see animated, and this could open a number of doors for the future if it's popular enough. So I would love to advertise this anime... but I honestly can't do that. This OVA is a huge failure which is only good for those who are reading the manhwa already. The OVA lasts about 30 minutes. Even less if you take the OP... See full review

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou

Jan 30, 2016

Story and characters Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou can be summed up in one word: uneventful. It shows us slices of the life of Alpha, a female android who lives in the countryside and has a café. The most exciting thing she does all day is make coffee, after which she drinks it herself because there are no customers anyway... and yes, I'm serious here. The first 6 minutes of episode 1 show how Alpha gets up and makes coffee while some girl is traveling towards her. The next 4 minutes are the arrival of said girl, who then delivers a package and a message. After that they make some... See full review

Jan 18, 2016

"Hey, let's see if we can find something worse than Marse of Destruction".
Skelter Heaven is one of those anime that are legendary for being bad, but in my experience it went far beyond the level of "bad", straight to the realm of "If I had the Dragon Balls, I'd wish I could unsee this".
The problems already start to arise in the first seconds: we get a shot of 1 minute of the earth, while we're forced to listen to some random noises - you may be inclined to mute the damn thing there, and you probably should.
After the Earth-shot? An OP with an ok song, but ugly... See full review

Koe de Oshigoto! The Animation

Jan 12, 2016

Koe de Oshigoto belongs to the crap I only watched because of forum events (in this case, the Daily Anime Marathon). This was an anime where I was really tempted to throw my laptop out of the window so I wouldn't have to watch it anymore. Allow me to explain what I mean: The story revolves around Kanna, a high-school girl who has just become 16. Her older sister asks her to become a voice actor in an eroge (a porn game). Kanna refuses because it's too embarassing and because minors shouldn't do that kind of thing, but she gets... See full review
