Hello, and welcome to my page!☆ My name's Destiny, and my very first anime was probably Pokemon, back in the good old nineties (followed by Sailor Moon, My Neighbor Totoro, and bits of animes like Dragon Ball Z and Speed Racer), but I consider my true first anime to be InuYasha (which I watched in 2006), as it was the first anime I'd watched knowing that it was anime. Naruto, Fruits Basket, Bleach, FullMetal Alchemist, Slayers, Spiral, Death Note, Wolf's Rain, Azumanga Daioh, and Miyazaki films followed, and I became addicted. ♥ I also eased into manga in 2007, with Rave Master. My collection has since grown to be over 400 volumes, somehow.
Recommendations are welcome! I am open to just about any genre, although I am not interested in yaoi (or shounen-ai), yuri (or shoujo-ai), or hentai. I typically enjoy seinen and shounen, but I do enjoy some shoujos and I'm willing to try interesting-looking josei. I LOVE psychological thrillers, mysteries, and comedies, but I'm open to pretty much anything (except those I excluded in my previous statement). For anime, I am also open to subs or dubs, as I really don't have a preference---it depends on the voice cast, the day, and/or which I can find most readily. But I am unlikely to watch both the subbed version AND the dubbed version. It's one or the other for me, generally. For manga, I do not read any online, aside from short and unpublished titles, such as one-shots and webcomics. Every single full length manga I have under my manga list, I own a physical copy of (in tankobon format) or have borrowed from the library, though the latter is extremely rare. I highly dislike fan translations of manga, due to their differing interpretations (which can, often, dramatically change the tone of scenes and characters) and incompleteness, and I also consider my purchasing of manga my major contribution to the industry.
I will not be filling out the "plan to watch" section here, as there are far too many I would like to watch and I, often, choose new series on a whim, or depending on the time constraints I may have, at the time.
Also worth mentioning is that I am getting my minor degree in Japanese studies (my major being psychology and my pre-professional training being law) and am currently polishing my skills in the language, so I am trying to ease over to watching some more raw anime as I work on the language. However, because of this schooling, I am having to severely limit the amount of anime watching, manga reading, and gaming that I do, so if you watch my page long enough, you'll probably notice meager entries during the school semesters, and then floods of entries during winter and summer breaks. :P Still trying to adjust to having to enjoy anime this way.
On an unrelated topic, I'm also a gamer, but due to school, I game much more lightly than I used to. I haven't any affinity to particular companies, as I've found several different companies that produce games that suit my tastes (I like a wide variety of games and genres). I can say, however, that the first game that I ever became obsessive over was Kingdom Hearts (which I still admire), and the game that I remain obsessed over is Subarashiki Kono Sekai (The World Ends With You). I purchased the game the week it was released in 2008, and it took me a year to complete (as I was hung up on the final battle and chose to put the game away for a while). Then, it took me two more years from when I beat it to attain a star-completion rating on everything, as well as maxing out defense and attack for all partner characters, hitpoints for Neku, and bravery for all. The only objective I have remaining is to raise the drop rate, and I'd also like to gain 65,535 ESP'er points, to entirely max it out, as well. While I also completed Kingdom Hearts II entirely, it's actually rare for me to obsessively work toward 100% completion. The ones I do choose to do this for, though, I put my all into.
Before I found Anime-Planet, I used MyAnimeList. And before that, I used Animenewsnetwork. I intend to update A-P, MAL, and ANN, but my primary focus will remain on MAL. More likely than not, I'll come here a few times a month to rate and update my list, like with ANN. But feel free to contact me and recommend, because I will still answer messages. (: I'm a bit shy, but I can type up a storm, when I'm in the mood to (and am able to find the time). xD
My MAL account is survivingphoenix, as well.
MAL has more of the things I've watched and read, as their database is currently a bit more complete, and I also have some of my "plan to watch" shows listed there. I, also, write my opinion about them on my list, do recommendations, and indicate whether I watched the sub, dub, raw, etc version of every title. So, it isn't identical to this list, and may be worth checking out, if you care to learn more about my anime-viewing and manga reading.
Also, A-P has been having this weird glitch with my list where it randomly changes the number of episodes I've seen for things under my "watching" list. So, it seems I will periodically be gaining and losing my "3 month" badge. ;P Not that it matters much to me, but it is a strange glitch.
