Pokemon Movie 5: Heroes - Latias and Latios

May 6, 2012

Okay, so I thought it was time to revisit Pokemon. The 3rd Generation of Pokemon passed me by a little bit, as it was around that time that my age-group started to think they were too old for the franchise; started to think it was uncool. As much as I am ashamed not to own a copy of Sapphire, Ruby or Emerald, I never really liked the Pokemon introduced within that generation anyway, so perhaps I saved myself from disappointment. I did get the Gen 4 and Gen 5 games though; I'm back in the loop these days. The films are different. They rarely follow the strict rules and regulations of the RPG Pokemon... See full review

Pokemon Movie 6: Jirachi Wish Maker

May 23, 2012

What a difference a year makes! An actual plot (kind of), fluid animation (barely), a classic soundtrack borrowing elements from the older films and games (mixed in with the usual cheese-pop with an even cheesier translation) and more time for our individual characters to shine (only Misty isn't here anymore). So things are not quite as they seem when a random-ass circus parks itself literally at the feet of Ash, Brock, May and Max, who are travelling through a random-ass desert to catch a glimpse of a random-ass comet which only makes an appearance for seven days, every thousand years (the clue is in the... The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2009)

Apr 17, 2012

Well if you haven't already seen it, go watch it. The story follows the very cynical but likeable Kyon, who has just started his first year of highschool. He quickly becomes interested in fellow classmate Haruhi Suzumiya (of the title), whose odd behaviour on the first day of term (her only interests are aliens, time-travellers and espers, so screw everyone else!) really sets her apart from the rest of the students. Personally, I wasn't impressed by Haruhi initially, but was compelled by Kyon's witty narration and gorgeous visuals. A few episodes in and the ball is rolling. Bored of all the other after... Master of Martial Hearts

Apr 11, 2012

Zettai Shougeki (Or Master of Martial Hearts as the DVD case says) is, and I almost feel mean saying this, terrible. Just terrible. And it's almost worth recommending. This review not only contains, but REQUIRES spoilers. First, let's get the technical things out of the way. I almost enjoyed the OP, but christ did the songwriters ruin a rockin' song with some bratty, over-loud vocals! At one point I thought about recording it in college, but after the 2nd listen, I got sick of it. Which kind of echoed my feelings on the series (covered below). As for the rest of the music, I can't remember any of it. Go... See full review

Tokko

Mar 19, 2012

Tokko was under £5. That was the only reason I bought the series really, as the reviews weren't particularly praising and I had never even heard of it before. If you can get it that cheap (at the very least under £10), then it's definately worth it. The series follows Ranmaru Shindo, a cop with a dark, mysterious past. You see, 5 years ago, his parents were killed in the Machida massace - an unexplained slaughtering of dozens of people in a block of flats. These days, working for the Tokki police force, Ranmaru and his friend Ichiro are given embarrassing tasks such as cleaning the toilets by... See full review

Claymore

Mar 13, 2012

Claymore was a neat surprise - 26 episode for under £10 was a bargain for a classy series full of bloodshed, beasts and strong women. The story follows the journey of Clare, the lowest ranked Claymore (all female but half demon warriors who protect humans from evil shapeshifting beasts called Yoma) in the region, as she seeks revenge for the killing of her old guardian. It is composed of 3 or 4 small arcs which introduce us to more Claymores and increasingly evil beings, but also demonstrate the psycholigical trauma of being a Claymore. You see, these warrior women are essentially a ticking time... See full review
