Hi, I'm Ashley. I'm currently in college majoring in history and joined this site to find new anime to watch and to keep track of all the series or movies I've seen. I began watching anime in the late 90s with Sailor Moon, but didn't resume watching it until 2011.

With that out of the way...currently I'm not watching as much anime as I did before because of new interests, new time commitments, and the like. I have a bit of a short attention span with anime so it can take me awhile to complete a series if it doesn't completely blow me away when I begin watching it; that should explain the amount of stalled series I have.

I generally will watch anything if it sounds interesting or I've heard positive things about it. I enjoy watching older anime (despite many people's apparent hatred for it) because I like seeing how the medium has evolved and where popular genres began. I prefer watching shorter series but am not completely closed off to an interesting longer anime (for example, my favorites run the gamut from 12 episodes up to 70.) I have a major soft spot for magical girl anime, probably as a result of Sailor Moon being my gateway series. While I don't mind a well-done darker and edgier (or gorier) anime every so often, I am generally not impressed by them and tend to prefer more positive or lighter anime. I'm also really getting into mecha anime because apparently my love for giant robots has been lying dormant this entire time.

My ratings scale for anime is based on both how much I enjoyed it and how objectively good I thought it was, though personal enjoyment will take precedence. A 5 star is excellent, a 4.5-4 star great, a 3.5 star very good, and a 3 star decent. Anything lower means I found it boring or unengaging and would not rewatch or buy in the future.

Favorite (non-anime) TV shows - Avatar: The Last Airbender, Futurama, Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Arrested Development, South Park, Mad Men, Firefly, Game of Thrones.

Favorite (non-anime) movies - most Disney and Pixar movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, The Princess Bride, Bonnie and Clyde, Some Like It Hot, Pulp Fiction, Breathless, The Dark Knight trilogy, Iron Man, The Avengers, A Hard Day's Night, Sunset Blvd., Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Inglourious Basterds, Pacific Rim, Kill Bill, Battle Royale. I also have a love for black and white movies and especially silent movies.

Favorite (non-manga) books - Harry Potter series, The Great Gatsby, The Catcher in the Rye, Pride and Prejudice, My Antonia, Friday Night Lights, To Kill a Mockingbird, Katherine, A Song of Ice and Fire series, lots of historical nonfiction. I also enjoy reading comics; my favorites include Watchmen, Batman: The Long Halloween, and Kingdom Come.

Here's my Tumblr which has overtaken my life.

Hi, there. I woul encourage you to rewatch FLCL. There's a lot of subtle scenes that sets this show apart from a lot of others. The characters are deep and there are hidden messages underneath all that random comedy. I don't even think it's necessary to understand Japanese culture to understand the depth in FLCL.

I learned from rewatching Code Geass that the first season is superior to the second season. The first time I watched R2, all those plot twists got me into the show, but then I realized how flawed the second season was the second time around and it's like an insult to the first season. And I just wanted to say that because there's such a big gap between your two ratings of the Code Geass seasons. I honestly think the first season would've been 5/5 if it weren't for the cliffhanger at the end of the show that gave way to such a mediocre second season, full of incoherency.

I watched Gurren Lagann (great show) before watching NGE so I was able to understand all the deconstruction aspects the first time. I still think NGE is the deepest anime I've seen (Cowboy Bebop and Princess Mononoke come close though).

Anyways, it's been a while since I've written on your wall. How has your summer been and what do you think about the new anime planet format?

It has been a while , and wow! I did not expect Anime-Planet to have a major facelift. I'm liking the new change. Hope your Summer's going well

I actually just watched Diamond Dust Drops, it's not bad! If you're looking for an episodic mature romantic drama, I might just recommend it. :)

I rewatched Evangelion not too long ago and it's definitely one of the few shows worth rewatching. Like even though the plot twists won't catch you off guard like how they did the first time, you could still appreciate the top-notch dialogue and how deep they portray the characters and how well the philosophy of exisentialism, and also with the mindfuck and the insane realism (those last two episodes are a masterpiece XD).

I also rewatched FLCL and I didn't realize until now how deep the characters are, especially Haruko. All the mindfuck and randomness actually have some greater truth to it, and of course, the music is top notch. (:

Yup, that was pretty much my thoughts as well. Take out all the plotholes and logic problems and ignore the fact that it deals with a lot of the issues it adresses really insultingly (episode 5, anyone?), it's just so obviously pander-y and yet no one seems to be able to see it. And it features some of the blandest characters I've ever seen. Kouta could be replaced with a rock and nothing would change, save for his incredibly unrealistic 'revelation' with lucy at the end, Yuka was just awkward and couldn't stop telling Kouta how much she 'wants him to feel her breasts' and then getting angry at HIM when he pulls that stupid 'DUUHHHH' face he wears 99% of the time. Plus, it adds the whole 'cousin incest is cute and sexy' thing which I despise. I know, cultural differences and all but ugh. Nyu is like a violation to my eardrums with her cutesy pokemon voice and her fanservice with Kouta and exposing herself and peeing on the floor made me sigh and facepalm more than I can say. 'Emphsising her innocence', my arse. That's creepy male otaku pandering, no mistake about it.

Maya (or Mayu, I forget her name) was just handled insultingly and then cast aside once there was no more poorly explored backstory to shoehorn in, Nana is just cast aside in a similar way once she's served her purpose and the rest all just exist to paint humanity as a bunch of assholes who deserve to die. I don't mind stories exploring the cruelty of people but seriously? We're meant to smpathise with Lucy simply because no one in this world is capable of being anything but a complete asshole? It's like those preachy enviromental films that try and paint humanity as assholes to promote the 'nature good, human bad' message. Except this is worse because of Lucy's mass killings. For someone who claims to be so ashamed of her violent past and wished she could take back what she caused, she sure does spend a lot of the plot blowing people to bits and ripping them apart while not giving a damn about that. The backstory just showed us humans being assholes, it never gave us any reason to care about what Lucy was actually going through. She's just a tool, she's just a device used by the plot to demonize humans and somehow earn her forgiveness for the mass slaughter of god knows how many. I could go on for ages about how lazy the story was and how the diclonious are the worse kept secret in history but I've ranted long enough. See what this anime does to me xD

Also, I am far too excited for Sailor moon crystal. YESS MY BEAUTIFUL FEMALE WARRIORS *^* The summer looks to be pretty good so far, plus free! season two draws ever closer. Also, we need to talk more on tumblr *^* If you ever wanna geek out about awesome characters (especially female) or feel like a rant about anything, drop me a message! I'm also watching utena with my brother now as well as steadily making my way through kill la kill (I'm lazy, so sorry ^^;). The fact that he loves it fills me with a weird kinda pride. Plus I love explaining the symbolism to him whenever an episode ends. He loves Nanami xD
