Galerians: Rion: Instant Review...

22 NOV
2010

I watched this tonight, and I have to say, to quote a popular Internet meme, "Son, I am disappoint."

The story revolves around Rion, a young boy who wakes up in an "isolation room" even after being given heavy drugs.  He has no memory of his life before this, and decides to wander around the lab aimlessly as various characters show up to send him back to the isolation room.  He discovers that he has psycho-kinetic type powers, which allow him to find the mainframe computer.  The computer tells him a little about his former life; that he had parents who are now dead, a house he used to live in, and a sister that is the voice that is talking to him inside of his head.

He goes to find his old house, but is still confronted by characters from the lab that now want to kill him.  They wish to stop him from meeting with his sister, because if they meet, then they can save humanity.  In the end, he saves humanity with his sister, but at the cost of his own life.

Wow.  I can't believe I bothered to watch this garbage.  I have a word for it, but it's not very nice.  The word also refers to a controversial medical procedure performed on pregnant women.

The production quality was horrible.  It was very shaky and not complete at times, like they rushed it into production.  I've seen episodes of cheap CGI anime on tv (you know the series I'm talking about) that was better than this.  The audio was off in places, and there were no sound effects in areas that should've had them.  All around unappealing.

As for the story itself?  It was childish at best; uninspiring and disconnected at worst.  I could've written better stuff when I was 6 (and I did, btw).  The characters had no real motivation, there was nothing in the story that would lead you to believe that anyone actually knew anyone else (but, according to the story, everybody DID know each other, except for Rion himself), and even if they DID know the other characters, there was no connected plot so that the viewer would even care.

My suggestion is to avoid this amine at all costs.  Don't make the same mistake I did.  Save the 30 minutes or so it takes to watch this and channel surf, or pick at your toenails, or whatever.  Anything is more productive than this.  In fact, burning ants with a magnifying glass by the light of the moon would be more entertaining than this was to watch.
