Hi there! I'm a not-so-normal girl living in Seattle, WA. I work for a software company as a writer of developer documentation, but my background is computer science and programming. In my spare time I enjoy video games, especially console RPGs such as my obsession, Dragon Quest (or old school PC ones such as Ultima aka best games ever, or Sierra adventure classics), anime (duh!), sci fi, movies, my cats, and various other geekery.

I'm Anime-Planet's creator and admin, having built the site in 2001 in a quest to learn MySQL, before becoming the behemoth it is today. Anime-Planet was and is still run by a small handful of volunteers, even though we reach millions of users a month, so a great deal of my time is still spent creating features, running the project, training moderators, etc. If you're interested in helping support the site, check out this link :)

Contacting me:

As much as I'd like to be able to reply to each person who contacts me, I spend the vast majority of all free time working on the site and getting features out the door, so I rarely ever have time to read or reply to comments I get here. Most of the questions I get here are site-related questions that we have teams of moderators or forum sections to help with, and if there were less of those here in the profile, I'd have more time to reply to other comments.

Please make sure you read these notes and link suggestions for the most common site questions I get here. Another way to get in touch is in chat in the evenings, but I'd point you to the same links below if it's site questions. ;)

Thanks for stopping by! And now, enjoy some creepy amazing gifs...

Hello! Thank you for your reply~ Thank you for the welcome~ Yes, I love it, I'm sorry for biting you, it was from hurt of feeling left out of the forum and I thought you didn't care, but I know that you work hard, the site is awesome.

Can you give the option to put the previous design back? Reading white on grey is actually harder for me to see... and having this big rectangular mass destroys the gentle floating cloud effect that I so loved about AP. It doesn't really fit with the rest of the site and I hope that you won't change everything into strong dark boxes... If some people have trouble seeing the text, maybe increase the contrast with a darker blue... But grey... is depressing me... it looks heavy. It was better when the menu wasn't distinct but gently floating with everything else in harmony... Your site was perfect, and I'm super fond of it... So any changes will look worse to me...

Thank you to care about new members... Why not giving up the merge? Or allow registrations util you find how to merge? Isn't there a way to make it look merge in a way to let users register before it's completely fuzed? If you leave a note to register with the same name and password, I don't see why you have to turn it off...

If users don't have like stats and such popularity stuff... Why not trash the whole thing and make everyone get registered automatically? I agree that cleaning up names that don't match seems too tedious. We could all help you by recreating the account properly in the new AP forum. It'd be annoying to users... but a much lesser evil than not let user join the fun for months... and making it a million times harder for you.

So... you're saying that my idea is probably doable but that no one has that much database coding skill at the moment... Thank you, I understand. You look like a massive site actually... But now that you mention it, maybe the reason why I dislike MAL is a corporate feeling... AP feels more warm, like a close family... So if it's your own baby with volunteers, that'd explain the warmer vibe. Trashing everything and making people reupload their avatar and sigs sounds like the best idea with limited options... The option to delet all entry is probably easy... but I'd sure do a whole backup first.

By the way, I don't know if I messed with my javascript permissions, but the images tools are no longer displaying above the text box... I get squares with4 letter codes in them... Did you change something temporarily or I need to debug yet another thing on my computer?

Thank you so much for being on it. Without announcements, we didn't know that we weren't abandonned. I guess that deleting all users would be a problem for the posts... Those can't be deleted... I'd probably rename everyone with zzzzzz in front of their names... to make sure that the names become free to use for new users while still displaying old stuff... But then they wouldn't be able to edit the first posts of clubs and stuff like that... Oh god... Do you really have to merge? If we have two forums for a while and slowly let everyone migrate their clubs and redo everythig... That would work. Can you copy the forum's blank frame and just abandon all the posts and users? Sometimes the most complicated solution is actually the simplest... and the easiest looking option that seems to be the nicest is too hard to be feasible... Let everyone migrate their stuff while you only merge the skeletton. You can always keep the old forum in archives.

What is an activity feed? Ah, it's been off even longer, I see why you are working on it first. I thought it was a completely new feature to look cooler... Sorry about that. People ask for the feed more than the forum... Well, if hey can't post they can't really ask. Social media channel? What else is related to AP? I don't use acebook and twitter.

Yes, thank you very much. The hardest part wasn't the patience, it was feeling like I wasn't wanted and cared about. So thank you. Maybe you should make an announcement so others can understand too. Maybe put a link to it where it says that forum registration are closed.

It seems like you are trying to do the best thing to avoid inconveniencing anyone, and in the process, it causes delays... So I'd say go ahead and do the simplest for you. Let everyone help you by transferring their own stuff. Is it possible to have 2 forums until everyone migrated? You could allow registrations in the new one only, and give a month for the users to transfer all the posts they made and use regularly into the new forum. If you explain how hard it is for you to transfer everyone's stuff on your own, the good people will understand.

Ganbate~ And thank you so much for taking the time to welome me. <3

Did you change the site's design? I prefer the banner of links to have 2 pale grey lines and sky blue links. That's why I loved AP over MAL. Everything seemed to just float in the sky.

With a strong depressing grey line and a bloody red link highlighted... It feels heavy, constraining and depressing...

I'd prefer if it was the same way as the walls... if you're going to make everything dark grey... *sigh with sorrows*

So apparently you're working on RSS right now. I think that forum registrations should be a priority because it's a huge part of the site to be able to discuss anime. Are you thinking that it doesn't matter because it works just fine for old members, and you'd rather give them more stuff than allow the basics for the new membes? Well, WECO is doing a good job at making me feel welcome... but I wish I could say the same about you if you.

Got an idea... if you can manage to have two different sites in the same page, then I'm sure that you can make a code that send new registration ID and password to both sites at once. To register new members automatically in the forums even before it's merged. It would allow access to more people until everything is merged. But leaving a note to register with the same info should be enough.

For the existing users, I'm sure that you can make a script that copy AP's database in the forums, if it doesn't already exists. You could send yourself a list of names that caused errors if the password is different.

Then you'd just have to clean up the people who registered with different infos in the forums, and the people who couldn't be registered because their name wasn't in use at AP but was in the forums.

So it'd look merged even if it wasn't. It'd allow access to as many people as possible until everything is properly merged and cleaned up. But if it's going to take months having an half accessible site, you might as well give up merging.

I don't know much about databases, but I know that automated scripts can be simple to do a complex task. I don't see why it's taking so long. What can possibly take priority over letting people actually use the site O_o

We should worship you for giving us half... but still... get on with it please *pokes* Love you~
