Legend of DUO

Aug 12, 2006

Story
What do you get when you cross a bishounen vampire with a gun? Something that should have been a lot better than Legend of DUO!

I had heard nothing but negative things about this series before viewing, but decided to check it out for myself. While not nearly as bad as I’ve been seeing in reviews elsewhere, it definitely has many factors that make it not in my top 50. Story-wise, the best non-spoiling description can be found in the AniRec entry. Basically, humans are dying off and trying to hurt vampires to save themselves (for a reason that DUO shared to the humans, thus... See full review

Lightning Trap: Leina & Laika

Aug 7, 2005

Story
Now, I'll freely admit that I've never seen anything anime that was related to a plane hijacking. So just for that, Lightning Trap should get some credit for originality. That being said, I didn't think it was presented in a very pleasing manner. First of all, the whole hijacking part, made watching it seem like a single episode of some sort of cop show. But then the whole "very dangerous super weapon/monsters" thing comes into play, and I feel detracted from the hijacking story. Choose one or the other, don't combine both! Because of the awkward combination of the two (with the weapon not... See full review

Legend of the Forest

Jan 29, 2005

Story
Legend of the Forest is cleverly focused on the same topic as its title: the forest. Produced by the famous Osamu Tezuka in the late 80s, this 30 minute movie (which has a few definite sections) is voiceless and is basically a good old "here's why humans and the environment don't mix and why we shouldn't kill animals and cut down trees" story.

Hey, I'm all for humans being wiped out and am a firm believer in the idea that our planet would be better off without us. That being said, though I understand Legend of the Forest's message, it was portrayed in such a terrible manner that I... See full review

Legend of Basara

Oct 16, 2004

Story
Legend of Basara takes place in a beautiful fantasy type world full of castles and kingdoms, knights and warriors. We are introduced to two twins: Tatara, who was foretold by the prophet Nagi to be the chosen one to unite Japan, and Sarasa, his ignored and unappreciated sister. Through a series of events, Sarasa's family, including Tatara, are brutally killed at the hands of the Red King, leaving her to take over her brother's identity as Tatara, to continue his legacy. Note: if you are angry at me right now, don't be... this happens in the first part of episode 1.

I've read a... See full review

Lament of the Lamb

Oct 10, 2004

Story
On the surface, Hitsuji no Uta might appear to be just another vampire series, but deep down, it goes into fairly dark territory involving family histories and gruesome secrets galore. Young Kazuna has found his life turned upside down when the cravings begin -- and things go downhill from there. When meeting up with his long lost sister, Chizuna, he realizes that he is not alone in his family's curse, and she may be the only one who can save him...

I think the thing I liked the most about Hitsuji no Uta is that it was a fairly unique vampire series; that is, unique as far as what... See full review
