Ergo Proxy

Jul 6, 2007

Story
Ahh, Ergo Proxy. You stole my heart like a thief in the night and promised such visions of grandeur that I could hardly wait to see what came next. Why, oh why, must you have disappointed me so? There are so many things wrong with Ergo Proxy that it's hard to begin. First, the parallels between it and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence are eerily uncanny; both have an empty and vacuous excuse of a story, combined with stunning visuals to distract you from the blatant stench. The problem is that while GITS2 was terrible from the get-go, Ergo Proxy begins with a drool-inducing bang that ends up being... See full review

End of the World

Aug 7, 2005

Story
Sound completely strange? You can't even imagine. End of the World is a Studio 4C production, and is about 10 minutes long. Think of it like a lighter version of Cat Soup, with brighter colors, making just as little sense. Wackiness and randomness abound, there really isn't much more to say besides that. The short film alternates between the real world, and this strange fantasy/demon land. By the end, you do understand the general gist of what happened, but definitely not how it got to that point, or why. Some might argue that it seemed like it ended openly, but I disagree! It ended, you just... See full review

E's Otherwise

Feb 13, 2005

Story
In a world that probably wasn't based on Earth, the population is broken up into psychics and humans. The humans are afraid of the psychics and often times these psychics get killed or in general are driven out of the city. They have to hide their identities and their powers, lest the wrath of the humans come down on them. At the same time, there exists Ashuram, a corporation who employs these psychics (or "E's") to not only help keep the peace between the E's and the humans, but also to developed these psychic powers far beyond those who live in Gald, the slums. When I say slums... See full review

Explorer Woman Ray

Jan 22, 2005

Story
Like Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider? Explorer Woman Ray will probably appeal to you. Though the name suggests the story will revolve around someone named Ray, for the most part, there isn't a set main character. Ray, indeed, is one of them: she's an archaeologist who is studying the lost civilization of the Ords, a people more advanced than present day humans, who worshipped light and the sun. Ray owns a mirror (passed down from her missing grandfather) that supposedly unlocks the power of the Ords, but everyone else wants it for their own selfish plans. Mai and Mami are two incredibly obnoxious... See full review

Eternal Family

Dec 30, 2004

Story
Eternal Family is a Studio 4C production. Interestingly enough, as we were watching this both of us kept saying how much it reminded us of End of the World (another short from Studio 4C), and sure enough, when the end credits rolled, it was in fact Studio 4C! This might explain the confusing nature of the OVA, as well as the pacing and randomness that abounded.

The story involves a family that is made up of rejects of society. These individuals have been brainwashed to think they are actually a family (except the dad), and live in a closed environment. Due to some circumstances... See full review

Elfen Lied

Oct 25, 2004

Story
Violence and nudity lovers unite -- Elfen Lied has been created just for you! Really though, although there is somewhat of a plot to speak of, the main focus of Elfen Lied is the shock value, plain and simple. The somewhat thin plot revolves around the fact that a certain type of people exist that have horns (dubbed Diclonius). These creatures become terribly violent and homocidal, causing those who sit in power to worry. Lucy is one of these creatures who escapes from a maximum security facility (leaving much carnage in her path), and washes up (naked and bloody, no less) on a beach where the... See full review

Elementalors

Sep 14, 2004

Story
Ok, seriously... I have NO IDEA how to write this review, as I had almost no idea what the plot was about. The beginning starts off in a relatively normal manner. Young Kagura was in love with a beautiful friend of his, who was married to a different friend. This male friend was killed in a car crash with Kagura, but only Kagura survived, and the blame was placed on him. Unfortunately, the woman was so distraught that she killed herself, and hence, the start of the movie. (Don't worry, all of this is explained within the first 1 minute of the movie, so it isn't really spoiling.) Now... See full review
