The first poem by Fujiwara no Michimasa is #63 in the Hyakunin Isshu:
Ima wa tada
To bakari wo
Hitozute nara de
Iu yoshi mo ga na.
"After I determined to abandon my love, my only regret is that I have no way to tell you in person."
The next one is by former Emperor Sanjo as he is retiring to be a monk, #68 in the Hyakunin Isshu:
Kokoro ni mo
Arade yuki yo ni
Yowa no tsuki kana.
"As the years pass, I find myself longing for the sight of a midnight moon."
Would like to express some annoyance that this episode was half a story and half a person's flashbacks of the same story.
