about me

Hi! My name's Sam.

Like many others, ever since I saw Sailor Moon on TV as a kid, anime has a been an interest of mine that has only grown as I've aged... and it shows, as my anime DVD collection increasingly grows in size.

While there are particular works I dislike, for the most part, I am easy to please and will watch anything you throw at me. I enjoy trying everything, and find that being open-minded to things you may think you won't like brings great rewards. And don't worry; more often than not, even I start out disliking something, I will probably come around to it in time.

Outside of anime and manga, I love video games - a few of my favorites being Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Okami and Dark Souls. I've also recently become a fan of tokusatsu films and television series.

Talk to me! I'm nice, I promise, and will not bite. :3

Great Reviews!

Feb 19, 2013

Don't worry, I saw on Netflix, anime-planet, and MAL how low of a rating it received and back-tracked to some reviews and am fully prepared for the suckage. I'm just trying to finish everything in the canon...because I'm OCD like that xD I think I'm going to try to finish Key the Metal Idol next...but it's hard to motivate myself knowing the last 2 episodes are 45 minutes long each...bah...and I thought there was something random I was missing that you told me the guy who wrote MD Geist did...the mystery is solved!

Well I figured if the DNA, or rather if it was infact DNA, that it was linked to the whole "B-cell' thing...although I must admit the coolest...eh animation moment? for me in the hwole series was when Yuji walks up and it works like a mirror image, grabbing him gently inside...so trippy. I feel better now xD at least we basically took the same idea out of it...I just didn't want to be dumb and have missed some giant piece.

I do agree, I think their character development at least with the two main characters, was fairly realistic in comparison to other series. Yuji is basically forced to grow a pair if he expects to survive and learn about what happened to the Earth while he was sleeping, or what his purpose is...Marlene herself also slowly let's down her defenses and takes strides for weaker man gaining back much of mans humility and compassion...maybe that was a point they were making too? That all the second earth people seem to be cool, calculated and only care about the main objective...while the main characters are treated as outcats for being more willing to sacrifice for others...so the theme of working together for the greater good proves to save them in the end while the lone-strivers met a quick and brutal end...;_; I was so sad when Rick died...I naiively thought he had a chance...but seeing Tony die was worth it...and the surreal feeling it leaves where they left the station care-free that everything worked out not realizing how close they were to it all blowing up in their faces.

You should totally make a review blog ^_^ I would be an avid fan...even if I wasn't your friend :p I hope you go through with it, and tell me where to read! I know you already have made me want to watch other anime just based on those recommendations..=3= so much anime...ahhhh

OH! And I'm almost finished reading the manga of Dragon Ball...I forgot just how much I loved that canon...it makes me feel so giddy and I was going to back track and try reading Akira Toriyama's Dr. Slump but I think I'll just read Dragon Ball Z and the one shots first...It's been so cool to learn the history behind the characters since I never watched much of Dragon Ball when I was younger, just dived into DBZ...so I have a new respect and joy from Goku himself and I get the awkward tensions with Piccolo in the beginning of DBZ now..it is definitely one of my favorites..hands down.

Great Recommendations!

Feb 19, 2013

Soooo I finished Blue Gender, minus the movie, and I was wondering...am I supposed to be this confused and empty feeling? >:o It made me cry and then didn't explain?! Or did I just miss the point...I know they talk about how the arrival of the Blue and purging of Mankind was to solve an over-population problem..well thye speculated as much anyway, but what confuses me is when he steps into the area with the glowing...DNA looking chains that are popping out everywhere around the world...Did he speak directly to the earth or something X_X??? Did a big Miyazaki esque moment occur? I just feel I missed something or was wondering if it's supposed to leave you feeling like that... I dunno.

Other than that I found it to be a great series :D and you were right Yuuji gets much more admirable as time wears on...I actually really grew to like him...I think he looks goofy and sounds a bit whiny but he really stuck to his guns and grew from a scared jellyfish to a man with convictions.. I liked that...I also like how Marlene went from a stone cold soldier who seemed sociopathic and became a caring, almost high school romantic type of woman...a humanitarian bred forth.I also loved Miyagi's death scene...not because I disliked him, I think he was doing what he thought best to protect everyone, he just didn't happen to be correct. It seemed like an issue of "risk what we have to gain something much more" versus "protect what we have left, with no promises for a better tomorrow" however I just like the fact they did go back to the issue of 2nd Earth without making a big long dramatic piece about it, it was short but proved to be a perfect viable piece.

Now that I'm done gushing--- :D I wanted to say I read your recommendations and was astounded at how wellw ritten they were! I think you could write professionally when it comes to reviews on literature/films/etc. I mean you are an extremely intelligent person with an impressive college background, but I guess I was happily surprised to see it spread into even a little faucet like an anime recommendation... :3 you so smart... *pinch* I love you <3

Thanks! ^_^

Well I think I "get" her as in understand the motions she went through, but they weren't decisions I would have made so I can't relate to her even thouhg she's a relatable character. Her hyperness and what seems like cluelessness in the beginning of the series were a turn off too I think.

I think you're right, I had already grown attachments to characters and that's why the english dub bothered me xD Warning: the main girl Yukari is one of my least favorite characters in manga history =_= I don't know if you'll dislike her but I do greatly because she is a constant complainer and nothing seems good enough and she his mold for what people should be like...And although I like George a lot some of his theories bug me xD so I don't have complete bias. It's a good series though...Gokinko Monogatari is much better to me but they have different atmospheres to them.I'm going to try finding the torrent for it now xD because I really do wanna see it...I found like a few stray episodes on sme site once but it was doing the thing where the sound doesn't match the video and irked me and I was just seeing if it worked, was working on naother series at the time. I actually used to do what you're talking baout more often but when I had slower internet sometimes it was easier just to watch the video instead of downloading. Nowadays I should probably try downloads again >_o for things I can't easily find. I have a whole series called like Emily of the New Moon or something weird xD but I can't find the disc I burned it onto from my parents house...so I may have to do it again...

I love that game with a passion. You like laying Hinata? She was pretty OK when I tried her in the survival mode...I don't own it sadly so I probably won't finish but I actually like playing as Naruto >_>; probably because I did his story modes for so long I got used to his style...I like Shikamaru sometimes but other times I suck with him..I don't think Ive ever used Gaara ironically xD just fought against him...and ooo ok, do you still have it :o? Glass Wings I mean. I hate when the art is good and the story blows...it's awkward. Although it reminds me of when I read Abara. The art is trippy and the story when you can follow is pretty interesting but seems likeit should be a much longer series and you're only getting a lick of t, like a preview.

Sherlock like the show? It's amazing *o* please watch it!! We watch it when it comes on PBS or w/e the equivalent is here. The only thing I hate about it is they only release 3 at a time and take forever to make it =_=' and when you get addicted like I did, especially when it first came on, it's aggravating.

Haha After I said I should watch anime I started to watch Dance in the Vampire Bund again :p I think I'll try to finish it minus the stupid recap episode.

You Rock!

Aug 3, 2012

xD it's ok I know you were busy and it wasn't super important to reply to dur

Toradora is my favorite comedy/romance, Nana still being my favorite all around romance. Well the ending kiss scene is of course the cutest scene xD but I figured that one was a given since it ends up on everyone's favorite scene list quite frequently. I do like the mature decisions in the anime, I think it made the romance more real than most. And a lot of the characters decisions throughout the show are fairly realistic and not all are nice. Like although I dislike Minori thinking about it, her weird fickle behavior and mood problem are what a girl would do...and that's why men can't figure us out :D I still haven't seen Clannad or School Rumble...they took Clannad off Netflix before I could see...except After Story but I can;t watch that first...I don't remember if School Rumble is on there or not...With Parakiss, you should read it first because the story is more coherent..and the voices are super irritating... =_=; well in English anyway...which is what I saw the first few in. OoO you have Gokinjo Monogatari??? I can't find it anywhere in anime form!!! AHHHHH!!!! I must watch with you or somethin... >3< I thought the sequels to xxxHolic were online...o_O; maybe I'm wrong or maybe the newest one isnt...I know there's a few...

I think Nick does have it because it was on the trophy thing xD yea Alakazam the great should still be on Netflix...i didnt watch it too terribly long ago. Apparently its even been on TV

Nothing new lately...was gooing to restart Area88 but cant find my cd case because people love to move my stuff...and the 3rd disc was in it...uhhh Hell Girl is sorda on hold...since its on DVD i forget about it and stick to netflix a lot. Lovely Complex is on hold mostly because online sites have been being obnoxious...like they won't buffer all the way or I have to find mirror after mirror...so I've been avoiding it even though I'm pretty sure that one was working well. My netflix anime...is on hold because I've been watching a lot of TV Shows on Netflix lately...like I finished Pretty Little Liars...The Walking Dead...and now watching Breaking Bad... :D;; I might switch it up and watch marathons of anime soon...I basically just watch stuff on my phone now because it's faster and I can move it around easier say if I'm breastfeeding... also it's better for at nighttime when Franklin is trying to sleep and I'm not tired yet or need something to wind down. I feel bad I haven't been reading almost at all ;_;Speaking of reading, still on hold with Alien Enumerators also...and wondering what I'll read after that anyway...OH question: Where did you read Glass Wings? Do you have the physical manga? I couldn't find it :/ I mean based on your rating it probably isn't worth the long hassle but I'd still like to xDI'll try to actually watch stuff soon so I can have new things to report or to tell you what i think of my current ones.
